Summary: Goldsmith's score restore the film to its glory.
Review: This movie is an underrated movie. May be it's because of the Tangerine Dream score featured in the American version. With this new restored DVD, the record is about to be set right. Also with this version, the movie is better explained and thus enjoyed.

This collection contains 2 versions of the movie Legend.
Disk 1, the "director cut" edition which contain the original Jerry Goldsmith's score.
And Disk 2, the American released version which featured the Tangerine Dream score.

Disk1 contain only the Ridley Scott's comentary as extra.
He goes on to talk about each scene's behind the scene secrets which makes this collection worthwhile for hardcore fans.

Disk2's extras, however are things only the very hardcore fans will appreciate. The 2 deleted scenes included are long and tedious to watch and make us wonder why they were shot in the first place.

Overall, I wondered why the score was changed to Tangerine Dream's in the first place. Not that they are not able to create musical score, I'm their fan myself. It's just that their electronically synthesized music just did not go well with the movie.

Summary: About Time!
Review: This is one of those movies that when first viewing years ago it was apparent the studio had chopped it rather heavy-handed. The film was a half-step away from being a very good fantasy. Like the box set of all versions of Brazil on lazer disc this DVD gives you both the studio cut version and Ridley Scott's original concept. Wouldn't it be nice if this option had been available for so many films in the past? Welles Magnificent Ambersons for example. Now we have Scott's film as it was meant to be. Lucky us.

The film is full of extraordinary shots and scenes. Even a little humor thrown in. Tim Curry makes a great devil and Mia Sara's being sucked into the dark side is marvelous. If the film has any drawbacks at all it would be the choice of Tom Cruise as the lead. I like Tom Cruise but I had just seen Risky Business and it was hard to see him as this Puckish character. Hmm . . I wonder if the success of Risky Business is the reason they changed the sound track music to Tangerine Dream?

Great visuals, great devil, cute fairy, nasty demons. You should love it!

Summary: Achingly beautiful and disappointing all at one
Review: .. I just bought my own copy this week. I have no idea which version I have - all I remember is the version I would rent out for weeks on end years ago. When my local video store recently advised they no longer held a copy, nor did many others upon investigation.. I decided it was time to get my own copy. It arrived 2 days ago and I've rewatched it twice... I am gobsmacked by the restoration... it captures every minute detail gloriously. But what happened to my story????.... where is the riddle scene shared by Jack and Gump?... where is the delicious beguilment Jack used to stall Miss Meg from eating him? ... the bewilderment of a captured and scared mindless Lilli loses momentum in the cuts made to this current version of the scenes, as is the dancing-dress sequence and the squirming chair .... On the other hand I loved the Unicorns revival and wonder what other delectable treats are missing from the movie in its original entirity.... As for the music.... the latest score feels too NewAge and out of place; overall my re-viewing pleasure was greatly disjointed, to ME ... although someone seeing this for the VERY first time would be truly captivated and enchanted. But I'm spoiled. I want the old score and every single snippet of the movie. Bring on that DVD dammit!!!! :DD

Summary: Truly an Ultimate Addition to my Collection!!
Review: Always put off buying this 80's sleeper gem, and for good reason. This is so truly the ultimate edition! Worth 10X the price I paid. The film itself brings to life a mythical world only recently touched on with LOTR. The make-up was top notch and facinating for its and any time to date. In fact, it's that organic presence of its characters that is lacking in the new Star Wars films! The Making Of feature is in-depth and includes interviews with all but Tom Cruise on how "legendary" the film was for them to make. Seeing Tim Curry and Mia Sara was an added plus. Highly recommend it!!

Summary: Legend (Ultimate Edition)
Review: I have waited a long time for a proper presentation of this visually stunning film. The wait was worth it! This 2-disc set is why I love DVD! The new restored directors cut of this film makes this more than just a visually breathtaking movie, it delivers a film that changes the way you looked at it originally.
Ridley Scott is one of those directors who is always trying to please everybody. Blade Runner was a perfect example. There has been so many cuts of this film. Under pressure from Hollywood execs and test screenings he had to dumb down the film and add narration from Harrison Ford to explain what is going on. Legend was a victim to test screenings also. The result was a hastily edited movie that lost a lot of the impact that this new directors cut has. The feel of the movie is changed right away by not showing Darkness. In the U.S. cut the mystery and weight of the charcter is cut short by choosing to show him right away. All great movie villians are the ones in the shadows, lurking, planning, waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves. This sense of awe and mystery is given back to the character. Only showing his hand and keeping him in the shadows. Ominous dialog provided by Tim Curry makes this guy evil before you even see him. There are changes like this that makes this feel like an entirely different movie. The addition of Jerry Goldsmiths score also changes the feel and tone of this film. It loses the eerie feel of the score provided by Tangerine Dream, but gives it more of an epic quality. I know some people out there will miss the old score, but fear not. On disc 2 you have the original U.S. cut. The directors cut has a beautiful new anamorphic widescreen presentation and DTS and Dolby Digital sound. The new sound mix is awesome. Heavy bass extension and great use of surrounds which causes this movie to encompass you. Hearing Darkness speak and to feel it in your chest will give you goosebumbs. My only complaint is that the U.S. cut is in Dolby 2.0. As much as I like this new version I really enjoyed TD's trippy synth heavy score, and to not have it in DTS or Dolby Digital is a bummer. There are also tons of extra features to keep you busy. If you are at all a fan of DVD this movie should be in your collection.

Summary: Looking soo forward to this
Review: I am looking forward to seeing this directors cut. I have correction to make from a couple of prior reviewers.
1. The Goldsmith score was the original score. Tangerine Dream was an addition after the fact. Personally I prefer it to the Goldsmith which doesn't have the same dark or magical feel to it that the TD score does.
2.The chopped up edit job was actually Ridley Scott's own fault. he was totaly parnoid about how this film would be recieved and went way too far in chopping it up.

Like I said I cannot wait to see the new version, I just wish they could done a compilation of the best of both soundtracks instead just the Goldsmith score.

Summary: To set things straight...
Review: Okay, I have to set a previous review straight by emphasizing that the Tangerine Dream score wat NOT the original score, but that the Jerry Goldsmith score was the original, and any research on the reviewer's part would have shown this. Unforutately, the American release of the film cut Jerry Goldsmith's score for Tangerine Dream, along with numerous other cuts to the film to trim it's length. I think the majority of people who love this movie are excited to see it's re-release on DVD with the original score and director's cut. If you personaly think that Tangerine Dream had the better score, fine, the disc being released in May will have both versions....but get your facts straight before entering a misleading review.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: Having seen all the versions of this film that are at the moment available. (There are two even longer versions floating out there) I must say you will be in for a treat. The Goldsmith score works wonders in the Directors cut of the film. They did all sorts of awkward bizarre cuts with Goldsmiths music/ (repeating music from other scenes and using music from older Goldsmith soundtracks)in the European version which is more beautiful and grander in scale than the american version but is sloppily edited. The U.S. version is cut smoothly and works as a haunting visual mood piece. But just wait til you see the two hour version its absolutely gorgeous and you will be in disbelief that the studio actually cut it the way they did. Its living proof why the suits should get out of the way/ the film would have been a great success in its original state. Ridley Scott is definitely the premier director of a generation.

Summary: The Best Legend Ever Told!!!!!!!!
Review: First of all, this is my favorite movie of all time. I first saw this film when I was about 4, and I would watch it over and over. The only thing I didn't understand was how the mortal time froze but Jack and Lily didn't. Then when I was older I understood it, because they were touching the unicorn. But this movie is a classic. It's my brother's favorite film too. I think they could make one hell of a sequel, but it's better they don't try! They might really kill it, so they better leave it as the only but greatest legend ever told! My brother agrees! But if Ridley Scott wants to make a new Legend, he had better call me first for some ideas. I was thinking tey could bring Darkness back who can try to raise more dark and hell, meanwhile Tom,I mean Jack is married to Lily with a son and they must save the world of mortals and fantasy all over again! But it could never beat the first, unless maybe i wrote the movie and script! I reccomend this movie to anyone over the age of 7, this is the greatest movie and Legend ever told, Greatest movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: The Legend I wish I was In!!!!
Review: This is a great movie, and will always be one! I recommend this movie to anyone above the age of 7, because of Darkness, (the devil.) And because of the demons in the movie. This is my favorite fantasy film ever, it's the best one out there! If you like fantasy, adventure films this is the best ever, and the one to get. Not even Lord of the Rings could top this film in my opinion, and if you think it does, whatever, because this is the grandfather of fantasy films. This is what T.L.O.T.R. was born from. Great movie, i'm so glad i have the chance now to get it on DVD! thanks!!!!!!!
