Summary: the ghost that screwed all the other anime
Review: this is the second most peice of anime that i like. the action here is terrific and the blood actually looks real, but the bad thing is that it didnt even look like a nude woman at some points the graphics were very dull and light and the eyes were real fake but at ONLY SOME times. other than those small "defects" the movie is perfect

Summary: Deep and entertaining anime flick
Review: Mamaru Oshi's "Ghost in the Shell" is a provocative and compelling story of one woman's search for identity and the meaning of being human. Motoko Kusanagi is a human with cyborg components who tackles special security situations for a secret police force. When the mysterious 'puppetmaster,' a powerful hacker who can crack into people's brains, appears in the form of a woman cyborg, Kusanagi finds herself questioning a lot about herself and spouting out deep philosophical thoughts along the way. The animation and backgrounds are simply stunning, while the DVD has superbly mixed surround sound. There is plenty of action and quite a bit of fan service, but it all ties perfectly into the plot. The skillful blend of action scenes and intellectual drama is why this is one of the most excellent anime films around.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Fantastic cyberpunk anime. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I read the manga, which is much more complex. But for approximately 90 minutes, this is a wonderful movie.

Summary: Another excellent piece for anime lovers
Review: Ghost in the Shell proves once again why anime is becomming increasingly more popular in the US. Exciting and artful, Ghost in the Shell is another excellent addition to any anime lover's collection. Gost in the Shell's plot raises interesting and powerful questions that drive the story onward to an interesting and, perhaps, unexpected conclusion. While more story and character development might have benefitted this feature and rocketed it to a five star rating, it is a sophisticated and fun piece, definately worth attention. Don't miss the dialogue between the puppet master and government officials. Another Movie not to be missed.

Summary: By far, the most overrated anime
Review: If you've always wanted to enroll for a philosophy class, don't bother--just get this anime. Through the guise of a movie, characters don't so much act as they just wait their turn to get on the soapbox to shove their philosophy down your throat. This movie is about as subtle as being bludgeoned with a mallet. Why not have the movie be a panel discussion instead of wasting everyone's time with a "plot." I admit, the music is great (when they actually decide to play some), and so are the background designs. But the actual character animation is nothing impressive. If you are mildly interested in this movie, go watch Bladerunner instead. It touches on the same themes, but unlike Ghost in the Shell, Bladerunner actually has artistic quality.

Summary: SO BORING
Review: I couldn't believe how boring this movie was! Sure, the animation was beautiful, but the story was sleep-inducing. If you like this kind of anime, than go for it. I personally like fantasy a lot better and that may be why I didn't like it.

Summary: The Prequel to the Matrix-
Review: This has to be one of the best animes that i have ever seen. It looms in the shadows of more popular animes such as Akira and Golgo 13. The overall atmosphere of this movie seems as if the Matrix was based on it. Some of the similarities you will be able to identify right of the bat. The film also has a great plot line. One of most original ones in Japanese animation in the recent years. It doesn't follow where you have a male hero who makes love to a least one women during the film. The movie is one of the most groundbreaking and entertaining of all anime. The only reason it deserved four stars instead of five, was that it did not develop the characters as most would like it to.

Summary: A shell with no ghost
Review: First of all, you should know I'm a bit stingy with the stars; after all,
giving 5 stars (like most other reviewers) requires the movie to be
essentially flawless. Well, there are two problems I have with this
movie. The first is the new-age psycho-babble about souls and so forth,
but this isn't really a problem since the ideas behind the babble are
interesting. This brings me to the movie's second problem - it tries
to hard to be philosophical. Aren't movies supposed to convey ideas

through actions, not by long and tedious parts where a character speaks
and explains itself (books can get away with this, but it's very hard
for movies to do so). The third problem is that at the end of the
movie I couldn't care less what happened to the major (the main
character). She is barely human - she doesn't laugh (she smiles once). She doesn't display emotions. She does nothing to make me feel for her -
she doesn't have a past, almost no desires, she only acts because it's
her job - why should I care about such a character? Why not make a
movie about a rock? Or my 586? I remind the movie makers that the characters may be cyborgs, but I'm not Well, I'm not all complaints . . . technically the movie is excellent, I'll
give it that. And it does try. And it's a refreshing change from Hollywood's
intellectually sterile flicks. It has become somewhat of a classic, and
every anime fan owes it to him/herself to view it at least once, but I'm not
spending my money on this one.

Summary: Wow!
Review: This is just great. Really, there isn't a whole lot more to say. It's complicated, thought-provoking, and sleek. What more could anybody possibly want? The only complaint I could have is with the fact that you're not really acquainted with the plot when the movie starts, resulting in a small measure of confusion. But- there's lots of eye candy on the screen to keep you interested before fully figuring out what's going on. It's very cool.

Summary: GITS--one kickin' DVD
Review: This was the first DVD that really showed what anime was capable of in this format. All anime on DVD should strive for this level of quality, both in terms of video and audio, and in content and extras.
