Summary: If I could, I'd give it a 3.5
Review: I would. I do NOT think that the movie lived up to its true potential at all. I haven't actually revieved my DVD yet, but from what I saw of the movie, many scenes were left out. Also, the thing where they show Harry under the invisibility cloak was just plain stupid. it could have seriously been better.

Summary: Special features were not worth the effort!
Review: I looked forward to this DVD being released ever since the movie was released in theaters because I could not wait to see the deleted scenes. When I first got the DVD and tried to find them, lo and behold I couldn't. Ater fooling around for more than 2 hours on the second disc, I had to cheat and go to the Harry Potter website to find the key. How disappointing! I am an adult who is a huge fan of the books, and I loved the movie. However, having to go through that rigamorole, made me furious and frustrated, and it was just for 7 scenes, come on! I hope Warner Bros does a more satisfactory job with the next movie and keeps in mind that most adults do not have the patience for this kind of nonsense. They need to remember that adults are the ones who normally DO the buying.

Summary: Wonderful movie for kids and adults
Review: My wife is an avid Harry Potter fan, has read all the books and saw the movie when it first came out. I had remained somewhat aloof, having done none of those things. I was, however, looking forward to seeing this movie in DVD to at least get a taste of what all the hoopla was about. I watched it with our 3 1/2-year old twins, explaining the more confusing parts to them as we went along. Both they and I were truly amazed. The wonder of Hogwarts was very well portrayed and the mixing of the ordinary (first days at school away from home) with the absolutely extrordinary (classes on potions and spells), together with the high production values and special effects gave you a good sense of what Harry must have felt. This is a movie the kids will be able to grow up with, appreciating and getting more out of as they get older (as is the case with The Wizard of Oz).

I must also say that my daughter and I, playing together, were able to get to the deleted scenes fairly easily (maybe because since I hadn't read that others had had difficulty and my daughter was three, we brought a certain innocence and intuitiveness to the process). A great movie and a fun, interactive 2nd disc experience.

Summary: LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
Review: Here's the scene: I'm a relatively sane, socially adept woman of twenty-something, sitting with a friend in a crowded (and I mean, crowded) movie theater in November 2001. I'm surrounded by toddlers, tykes, kiddies, pre-teens, etc. etc. My friend is not a child, so instantly we stick out like sore thumbs, two adults in a children's movie. For 2+ hours, I in J.K. Rowling's inspired world. I was living at Hogwart's. I was practicing my wizardry (although, at this stage, only with the popcorn). I was LIVING HARRY POTTER. Can I give this movie more than 5 stars? It was fabulous. And now, I can see it over and over and over again at home!

(And, yes, I know all about the Lord of the Rings vs. Harry Potter debate. Lord of the Rings was a better movie technically -- not as in special effects technical, but as in movie-making-as-an-art technical. But you know what? I wanted to BE Harry Potter after the movie. Not so with Frodo Baggins. Sorry all you Tolkein fiends!)

Summary: Film good, "Special Features" Disc a little sketchy
Review: I must admit, I didn't like the film when I first saw it but after a few repeated viewings I found it growing on me. I have to say I'm glad the directors didn't stray from the book, the film is supposed to be the book in an alternate form...NOT rewriting of the work set on film. I do wish the directors hadn't hacked out so much of the funny stuff (i.e. most of Dean Thomas' and Fred & George's comments) but the film was getting rather long as is. The DVD is essentially what a DVD should be...it has the film and a few extras. I have to say I LOATHE the second disc. It's a pain to go through so many steps to view the deleted scenes (and after you go through the effort you wonder why you bothered, they're nearly all from the same sequence), a majority of the "tours" are pointless, and the "games" are mind numbing. The makers could have spent a bit more on the package itself, cardboard breaks much more easily then the plastic alternative. Also the "locks" which hold the DVDs in place are too small and too tight, you nearly have to wrench the poor DVD out of its casing. I suggest Potter fans get the film, but don't expect anything amazing out of the special features

Summary: Okay but in some parts unfaithful
Review: First off, if you haven't read the books don't buy this. The movie was mostly faithful to the books except in a few parts where they changed things to save time. Personally I wouldn't have minded if it had been four hours long if it had been completely faithful. In some parts of this movie it seems quotes from the book are just thrown in making no sence whatsoever. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars but unfortunately they don't let you.

Summary: Deleted scenes -- why make me work for them?
Review: WARNING! The DVD claims to have 7 deleted scenes. You cannot access these scenes directly from the menu; instead, you will have to maze through an extremely poor "interactive tour" of the Harry Potter world to get to the deleted scenes. It took me about 30 minutes to do. What's worse, since DVD's can't "save" state, you'll have to do this every time you want to watch the deleted scenes.

This is just an irresponsible thing to do on a product consumers spend money for. As a free feature on a website, maybe. But on a DVD, no.

Summary: Great Movie, disappointing DVD
Review: Definitely the movie gets the 4 stars, but the DVD isn't all that. I was really expecting some great "easter eggs" and some really cool special features since the movie debuted just as the DVD's are really becoming the standard. Nothing in the special features are anything special. The Shrek DVD is much better with cool karoke.

Summary: 3 out of five
Review: Artifacts in the video (softness and motion) and the limited playback options on the MAC (Harry and company are surely wizards of the apple platform) make this release a disappointment. Compared to something like the Sony SuperBit technology used to author the DVDs for 'Crouching Tiger' and 'AI' Warner Bros should never have cut costs in the production of this DVD. What gives with the multiple proof of purchase tabs in the package? Are they going to offer discounts on the future releases if JKR gets around to finishing the series. As Blake said, 'Damn braces, bless relaxes'. Hopefully she's still driven enough to finish the series.

Summary: I Want My Hogwarts Letter!
Review: Though changed slightly from the book, the story isn't horribly disfigured like most Hollywood productions of literary works. The scenes were so breathtakingly realistic that I got lost in them and didn't want to emerge from the story at movie's end. I can't wait to pay my admission and open the Chamber of Secrets!
