Summary: Totally blows "Legacy" away
Review: When I got the Alien Legacy, I thought to myself "this is freaking COOL" as I marveled at its black-and-silvery embossed glory. But looking at the "Quadrilogy" (should be Tetralogy) box and what it contains, my Legacy box looks pitiful in comparison. For what is the Legacy but just the four separate movies stuffed into a cheap cardboard box? The Quadrilogy is so much more; it contains nearly every minute of extraneous promotional footage that was ever shot in relation to any of the movies, and contains both the theatrical versions and the uber-cool Special Edition Extended Director's Cut versions of all the movies. The artwork on the box manages to pull of the "AQ" logo effect in such a subtly brilliant way that I'd be surprised if H.R. Giger didn't draw it himself.

I wrote detailed reviews of all 4 movies on the Legacy review area, and I don't feel like re-typing it here, so I'll keep this short. Despite various fan slanderings of the fourth (and sometimes third) film in this series, every one of these movies is extremely good in its own way, and if you haven't seen all of these movies yet, then you must.

Summary: Now that's a Big Box Set
Review: I work at a video store and was reading a review of this box set. Get ready to be amazed people because this box set is designed to unfold in a way similar to how the Buffy box sets unfold. When completely unfolded it reaches a little over five feet long. Make sure when opening that you have a nice large table cleared. I mean o.k. Buffy sets are six discs and even that's a little absurd, but five feet? I really don't understand how this is going to work. Anyway we all know that it's a great series with some of the movies being better than others. My personal favorite is Aliens because that's the one I saw as a little kid and remember the best. Oh well, Happy Unfolding.

How can a review be written on something not yet released?
I own the Legacy box set on DVD so this is not the first time Aliens is on DVD as one reviewer wrote. I normally don't even bother with the reviews posted here but these got me going.

What the previous reviewer you were referring to was trying to say is that the original "Aliens" (the non-extended version) will be released for the first time on DVD. This DVD box set is the box set of all BOX SETS! Hands down. You've got both the original theatrical version and the extended director versions of all four films, huge commentaries of all four films, hours and hours of extras and quite simply the best digital transfer technology this side of the digital universe. You can't go wrong with this set at a price that isn't breakin the bank either. I used to think that my "Nightmare on Elm Street" box set was the bomb. That shadows in comparison to what this gem will be. It's what fans have been waiting for and all the really cool scenes from Alien 3 will be here for everyone to view-FINALLY!! Don't miss out December 2003!

Summary: AUUUGGGGGHHHH!
Review: Okay, just a few things.

I'm probably going to be getting this, because I think they're awesome. Just a few minor points; and I know someone has already said this:

Aliens is definitely out on DVD. I have it. And it's a pretty nice DVD also. It's out of print however.

But this is what kills me. This absolutely kills me:

I know this might seem minor to some people, but to me, and a few of my friends, it's so striking and embarassing as to almost be ridiculous. There is no such thing as a "quadrilogy." "Quadrilogy" is not a word. The word for a series of four is "tetralogy." The Alien Tetralogy; I mean, c'mon, that looks pretty cool too. I mean, hasn't everyone noticed that there is no other boxed set, any book set, out there of any sort called a "quadrilogy?" It's just, they go out of their way to make the DVD boxed set look so cool, and then they put "Alien Quadrilogy" on it. It's like a George Bush error; a word that sounds real, and we know what they mean by it, but it's not a word.

it's too bad. I mean, for the sake of the movies themselves, it's no big deal, of course, but it's just so... stupid. I wish they could go back and fix it, but it's just a point. I'm sure the DVD's themselves will be an improvement over the Legacy boxed set, although I thought those were fine also, even if the Alien 3 and Alien:Ressurection had almost no extras.

Summary: Why oh why oh why?
Review: Ready for the movie? Ready for the Ultimate Edition? Ready for the Special Ultra Limited Collector (with numbering) 10-disc edition?

What am I driving at? I would love a show of hands of who is sick and tired of a series of movies being released, only to in turn have special releases with deleted scenes, and in turn ultimate releases with deleted scenes, making of documentaries, etc.

So, after having purchased Legacy when it first came out, we are now presented with the Quadrilogy -- after getting past the initial guffaws of the title, I'm annoyed that YET ANOTHER SPECIAL EDITION HAS BEEN SLIPPED PAST ME.

Case in point -- Lord of the Rings. I was disgusted to learn that after having purchased Fellowship that they were going to release ANOTHER edition that had added footage, etc. The same has been done with Terminator 2, Stargate, and Army of Darkness. Although it has not been done yet, I would not be surprised if Lucas follows suit

If you're going to release something, do it right the first time and stop wasting our money.

Five stars for LEGACY. 1 star for the blatant commercialism that Quadrilogy intends to reap.

Summary: Finally!
Review: This incredible box set is, in my opinion, THE very reason that DVDs were created in the first place. Getting the never-before-seen director's cut of all four alien movies is worth the $70 alone.. but toss in a jaw-dropping 40 hours of special features, and you have the greatest DVD collection ever released.

Summary: The Definitive Set
Review: To put it simply, this set is THE set to own for Alien fans. Even if you own the Legacy boxset or other releases of the films, this set is a must own. In this set, not only do you get remastered versions of the films, you get over 40 hours of behind-the-scenes materials, including test footage, outtakes, documentaries, film commentaries from 3 of the four directors (Scott, Cameron, and Jeanut), and a plethora of galleries that expose in-depth the Alien saga.

Summary: Great info about the making of this set....
Review: For all Alien Fans, you might want to check out the "making of" section of this DVD Box set in book "The Digital Bits Insiders Guide to DVD" - a great little book about DVD that has an in depth section about the Alien Quad. Worth picking up for that section alone. Can't wait to see these discs in hand!
