Summary: A Revelation!
Review: I took my 7-year old daughter to see this, expecting the usual re-make blahs. What a surprise! I loved it. The acting, the production with terrific special effects, the unexpected humor (often aimed at adults) - it was a treat. The kids were great, but Jason Isaacs shone as Hook. I didn't see him in Harry Potter as others mentioned, but I remember his evil Col. Tavington in The Patriot with Mel Gibson - his Hook is very similar. Can't wait for the DVD!

Summary: What a performance by Rachel Hurd-Wood!
Review: I know that this movie's sets, special effects, and music score are all spectacular and noteworthy, but I think acting is most important above all.

Rachel Hurd-Wood, as Wendy, definitely deserves the most credit of everyone in the cast, even more credit than Jason Isaacs as Hook/Mr. Darling, because her performance is the most emotional and affecting, and it's way beyond what you would expect from most movie newcomers. No doubt this is one of the most amazing debut performances in movie history. Long gone is that annoyingly prissy Wendy we've seen in previous adaptations. Finally, we are treated to the deep, heart-felt emotions of the pivotal character Wendy Darling, not to mention some exhilarating youthful ebullience as well. Rachel expresses all those things with supreme believability, pure intelligence, and ethereal quality, and NEVER seems stiff and NEVER goes over the top. The scenes when she cries are so affecting that they are guaranteed to make viewers cry. Thank you for doing such a magnificent job, Rachel. You made this movie worth all 5 stars!

Summary: THE Peter Pan to watch, but it isn't lighthearted at all.
Review: This is easily the best feature film Peter Pan. The Disney one was, well, a Disney movie, and Hook was too modern (skateboarding and basketball in Never Land?). This is even more faithful to the book than the Harry Potter movies, but it's still great.
Jeremy Sumpter not only looks like someone that Wendy could fall in love with, he looks like he really would have cut off Hook's hand. Rachel Hurd-Wood was not born to play Wendy, but it was pretty close. She was awesome. Jason Isaacs WAS born to play Hook. Wow. This movie is dark in places (Hook's stump of an arm, a crocodile the size of a school bus, Hook fighting Pan). It's edgy in others. John and Michael's scene (you'll know when you see it) and some perverse romance between Hook and Wendy is pretty edgy for kids, and teenagers won't want to watch "a guy flying around in tights." Which is stupid, because they accept Spider-Man, Batman and Superman. Oh well. This sure has a difficult time finding an audience for kids, but it's a great tale that you and your friends should see.

Summary: An Amazing Movie
Review: There is only one word to describe this movie. Amazing! This is coming from a person who HATES when classic movies are remade, and I absolutely loved it. It was extremely, extremely close to J.M Barrie's book (My favorite childhood story) and is even closer then the Disney version made many years ago.

I have to admit that when I first saw the preview, I really didn't want to see it. It wasn't until my mom dragged me to the theater after Christmas to see a family film that I realized just how good it was. I particularly love Jeremy Sumpter(Peter Pan)and it's not just because I am like any other normal 14-year-old girl. I thought that he portrayed Peter excellently! He is just like how I pictured Peter to always look and he acts exactly like Peter Pan would act.
I also liked Jason Isaacs(Captain Hook). I saw him in Harry Potter and it took me a while to realize who he was. Anyway, he was really great and he made teh perfect Captain Hook. Rachel Hurd-wood (Wendy) was also amazing, especially since this was her first film!!
All in all, this is a great film and I suggest everyone should see it. It's great for all age groups, and I even saw it with my grandma after I saw it with my parents. This story was my favorite book growing up as I have already said.I saw the Disney movie probably about 3 times a week, and I think this version was even better! I hope I have persuaded you to go and see it, because it is an excellent family film with adventure, a little bit of romance, and I know you will find it throughly entertaining!

Summary: Gorgeous film
Review: We are Peter Pan afficianados at our house, and this film is, without question, one of the most beautiful, spellbinding versions we've seen ( 5 times so far). It looks like a Maxfield Parrish oil painting come-to-life, and holds very true to the book and original stage play (i.e., Mr. Darling is also Cpt Hook). The actor playing Peter is remarkable - where'd they find him??!! He gives Peter a "seductive" innocence that attempts to lure Wendy, who must choose between staying young and growing up. His sideways-glances at her are filled with a youthful infatuation-with-a-touch-of adult sensuousness. Wendy is lovely, smart, loves to play pirates and is an accomplished swordswoman. About time. The lost boys are "smashing."
My 6 year-old has her first real crush - on this actor playing Peter. The actor portraying Hook is wonderful (Draco Malfoy's father in Harry Potter)- best yet since Dustin Hoffman in "Hook." We can't recommend this movie highly enough. Just go see it!!!!!

Summary: Best version I've seen yet
Review: I'll admit, there are some very -VERY- bad parts in this movie (The I DO BELIEVE chant...heh) but those of you complaining that this isn't like the book prooooobably didn't read it all the way. They did change, add, and remove lots of scenes, but no movie doesn't. As far as content and characters, this meets the book fairly well. Those who say this was vulgar, violent, and dark: I have news: THE BOOK WAS VULGAR, VIOLENT AND DARK in some places! The book was fierce and fiery, and every adaptation so far has been lighthearted beyond reason. The boy who played Peter did so wonderfully. He had spunk, cockiness, charm, sorrow, and (a refreshing change) the fact that he's MALE all added up to make him a good choice. I didn't like the girl who played Wendy purely for visual reasons (her face is all unproportionate, it scared me). Otherwise, all the characters were excellent looking. The costumes closely matched the book, most of the scenes were pretty good, the fight scenes were nearly realistic, and there was humor, sadness, loss, regret, redemption, forgiveness, and love - all the aspects of a good children's movie. Definitely worth seeing if you loved the book.

Summary: Peter Pan As It Was Meant To Be Told
Review: Now this is a great film version of Peter Pan. I was dazzled when I saw it the first time so much so that I had to see it again. I loved it even more.

What's so amazing about this film is the fact that Peter Pan is not a flat character. He's not quite so blah as he is in other film versions where Peter is simply a mischievious boy and that's that.

We learn that there is a sad side to Peter's life, if you can even call it a life. Inside Peter, lurks a young adult just aching to get out. The plot follows Barrie's amazing tale much closer than any other version on film. What's also refreshing about this Peter Pan is that it is not a musical. Personally, I feel that the singing detracts from the story by making it more lighthearted and carefree than what Barrie intended with his marvelous story. Don't get me wrong, Peter is a fancy free boy, but he's also trapped in world that is neverending.

Jeremy Sumpter is not only adorable (and definitely a boy who will grow into a very goodlooking man) but he portrays Peter with innocence, fun, and a touch of sadness. It's also nice that this Peter was actually played by a male. It creeps me out to see Wendy fawning over a female Peter (like Mary Martin). Jason Isaacs is in yet another noteable performance. Children will certianly know him from the Harry Potter series. Staying with the theater tradition, Isaacs plays both Captain Hook and Mr. Darling. His Captain Hook was more convincing than any other Captain Hook I've ever seen. We also learn about Hook's underlying sadness, and audiences will no doubt actually feel bad for the guy.

Bottom line-- Great film. Buy it, rent it, see it. Get the book. Get the poster. Cherish this story forever.
