Rating: Summary: Yul Brynner is great in movie. Review: Yul Brynner is absolutely brilliant in this movie as a robot gone berserk. His character is believable, and down right scary.I think that other actors could have also played this part well, such as Clint Eastwood, but none could have pulled it off like Yul did.As far as the movie itself goes,it's definitely not the greatest sci-fi movie you will ever see,and yes there are some inconsistencys, but it is worth seeing,if only for Brynner's performance. Some of the stunt work in this movie is very good, such as the part were Brynner's character is set on fire.If you watch this closely, you will see that this is one incredible stunt.
Rating: Summary: James Brolin's Big Movie Review: I remember when this movie came out - James was a very popular TV actor at the time, and this movie was supposed to be the catalyst for his transition from TV star to movie star. So when you watch this, remember - James is the star of the movie, not Yul Brynner or that other guy with the dark hair. Once you've got that sorted out you can enjoy the movie as I did when it was first released!
Rating: Summary: WeStWoRlD where nothing can go wrong..go worng..go wgrno Review: I saw this film when it was first released, seeing it on the widescreen was quite enjoyable. The story is about a futuristic amusement park ($1000 a week) called Delos which has 3 areas. RomanWorld,MedievalWorld and WestWorld. James Brolin and Richard Benjamin are the main characters in the film,Brolin being the "park vet" having been there already and bringing his pal Benjamin for his first time. Everything is fine at first. Brolin coaxes his pal to blast the gunslinger (Yul Brynner) who's at the bar with them and who's giving Benjamin a hard time. He finally blasts The gunslinger in all the bloody gore a full scale fight breaks out in the saloon. At night when it's quiet, the technicians very stealthily come up from the underground control room to collect all of the shotup robots for repair. (Pretty convincing looking repairing) The plot is there's a virus attacking the robots central nervous systems causing them to kill the guests in all the parks Watch for the gunslinger chasing hapless Richard Benjamin all over Delos trying to kill him An enjoyable film full of suspense & chills keep some acid closeby
Rating: Summary: Yul Brynner was the ORIGINAL TERMINATOR Review: I watched this as a kid in the 1970's when it was on television and I remember almost peeing in my pants...I was so scared!! Yul Brynner may have delighted tons of kids and adults in the 1950's with his "King and I" musical movie, but he scared the "begeegee" out of us kids of the 1970's, giving us nightmares of a bald robot cowboy chasing us endlessly in our dreams. He was that scary and menacing--I still remember his walk in the movie...and then the rapid almost-running stride as he comes closer to his prey--I look back as an adult and believe he should have gotten some kind of acting award. Richard Benjamin was actually good in this movie (in spite of what some critics say). Yeah, there is a 70's look to it and some of the special effects are cheesy by today's standards, but sometimes, simple is better. I like this better than the overblown stuff of Terminator 2, etc. Watch it on a lazy afternoon and be prepared for a great suspenseful flick. If you're a kid, relive all the feelings you had as a youngster, but with the wisdom and maturity 25 years later and remember the good ol' days of Westworld, Logan's Run, Jaws, and all those mid-1970's movies.
Rating: Summary: Absolute, underated classic! Review: It must be the inspiration for films such as Robocop, Total Recall etc. And I know the director Michael Crichton went on to direct Jurassic Park. It's a favourite, if not one of the greatest ever sci-fi's. Yul Brynner at his greatest. A robot in an adult fantasy adventure park, out of control, running amok, chasing a guest through West World, Roman World, Medievil World. Has his face partially ripped off, to expose a totally believable 1970's special effects cyborg face. Brynners performance is brilliant to the end, after rising for a final time after having acid thrown in his face!
Rating: Summary: Yul Brynner! Review: This is in my opinoin Michael Crichton's best work. It beats Jurassic Park by a long shot. Man, does Yul Brynner get shot up in this movie. I think the violence is very graphic for PG flick. I guess back in the 70's the MPAA werent so strict about the amount of bloodshed! Anyway this has got to be one of my favorite films and any Michael Crichton fan should own it.
Rating: Summary: Good movie plus it plays in two different formats. Review: I'm slowly replacing my vhs movie collection with dvd movies. I haven't upgraded to a widescreen tv yet and most dvd's come in that format only. This one you could flip over on the same dvd and see it either way. I was very impressed with this and it would be nice if all dvd's had this option. As for the movie, it's always been an all time sci-fi classic for me.
Rating: Summary: Brynner saves this film...score: 60 (out of 100) Review: Yul Brynner will always be remembered as the robot gunslinger in Michael Crichton's WESTWORLD. His performance is the only thing that saves this movie from the trash bin. In fact, the last half hour is VERY creepy!!! Brynner's performance is so good that I got nightmares for many years thereafter - I was chased through underground tunnels by Brynner's evil gunslinger. THE TERMINATOR AND TERMINATOR 2 are much better films. Pros: Yul Brynner Cons: Everything else SCORE: 60 (out of 100)
Rating: Summary: Westworld Review: Two friends are looking forward to a couple of nice weeks in the futuristic "Westworld", a recreation of the 1880s Wild West, served by human-like robots. But after a while, some of the robots start malfunctioning. One of them is the gunslinger robot played by Yul Brenner. The movie shows, like many robot movies, the danger in letting robots or computers take control. However, that's not the most important thing about this movie. Westworld is a very entertaining Sci-Fi thriller written and Directed by Michael Crichton. The story is quite similar to Jurassic Park, but Westworld is a better movie. I strongly recommend it to any fan of Science fiction or thriller movies, and maybe also to Western-fans.
Rating: Summary: Better off doing it yourself. Review: Westworld, a good science fiction film from 1973 showcased Michael Crichton's skills as both a writer, who wrote a good screenplay for this movie, and as a director brining his vision of the story to film, which was released by MGM. I saw this movie about 25 years ago, and it's quite good. Story involves two men (James Brolin and Richard Benjamin) who visit a theme park that re-creates the old west using human robots as gunfighters, but the park's computers start to malfunction and the men end up fighting for their lives against the now evil robots (one played very effectively by Yul Brynner). The movie was filmed on a fairly moderate budget but they make effective useage of everything from the cast of the actors to the sets and a fine music score. Buy this movie and enjoy it. This movie was certainly better then many recent attempts by other film makers to do films based on other Michael Crichton's books.
