Summary: Not Really a Sequel
Review: Despite its title, this film must be taken on its own terms and not compared to the landmark "Cube." On those terms, it has excellent special effects (including a knock-your-socks-off soundtrack). But (as many previous reviewers have noted) it is seriously lacking in character development and dialogue; I never came to feel I really knew -- let alone developed any empathy with -- any of the protagonists as they babbled their repetitious lines.In summary, if you liked this movie -- or even if you didn't -- you would probably also enjoy the (entirely different) movie "Cube."

Summary: You Know What They Say About Sequels...
Review: The first "Cube" was a fine sci-fi movie with a witty concept and an interesting execution. Its sequel recaptures some ideas from the original but this time we`re in for a bigger,louder and more sophisticated experience. While it seems that the producers wasted more money here than in the first, the overall result isn`t as exciting. The first one had a claustrophobic atmosphere, yet "Hypercube" doesn`t have that same feel and mood and ends up being less suspenseful and gripping. The characters are stereotypes and don`t make us care much, and a couple of twists in the plot are quite questionable. All in all, not a terrible and lifeless sequel, but not a particularly exciting one, either. It`s a somewhat entertaining piece of sci-fi, even if it doesn`t bring nothing all that new or unpredictable.
Average, worth watching once.

Summary: Better than the first
Review: What can I say, this is an excellent film - subtle and sophisticated. It is a perfect sequel to the first film, and like a perfect sequel actually makes the first better to. The special effects aren't that expensive but their not bad and the hyperspace thing is pretty convincing. The best thing about this film though is that it has that grasp of subtle realities that puts it up there with the early Hellraiser films. This achieves exactly what Event Horizon tries and utterly fails to do.
The people in this film come face to face with the reality of hyperspace, a reality that most of us cannot accept, where they meet multiple realities and realities that conflict. At the end you still don't know the purpose of the Cube (other than to torture people), and its obvious that the first cube in the first film can be seen as a prototype for the second in the second. (OK I am into hyperspace and ftl geometry which makes me kind of prejudiced, and I'm not sure you'll even get the punch line or much of the film without the ability to grasp HS (hyperspace). (Donnie Darko has exactly the same problem)).
Set in the same reality as the first Cube, in a world surrounded by an utterly merciless military that killls without thinking. A film that never needs to tell you everything or lead you by the hand, where the author leaves you some genuine sense of mystery.
My only warning is I don't know how many times you can repeat watch it, a problem with Donnie Darko to! Saying that this is definitely in my top ten films for the last ten years.

Summary: No more suspense...
Review: Do not expect any suspense or horror from this movie. You will mostly find discussions on math, physics, and multiple/parallel dimensions. There are only a few traps that are followed with long pauses where the characters try to figure out everything. And most of the characters are copies from the first Cube, like the guy that goes crazy and kills everyone. The graphics were kind of embarassing to watch, the acting was pretty good, and the ending was a setup for a third cube, but what this movie needed was more traps and more excitement. It even seemed that the characters were bored in this movie at some points! Overall, a pretty good movie. You just have to make yourself get into these mathematical discussions the characters have. There just wasn't any suspense when they moved from room to room that the first Cube had. They should have had the first director do this film!

Summary: worth seeing
Review: quality must always be inversely proportional to the amount of money
involved, so you have to excuse them to some extent because of less
freedom they had. it's not that bad as it could be given how much more
money was involved compared to the first part. it doesnt mean it
couldn't be much better, it means it could be much worse. the actors
played just fine for their parts. as to the plot, a global control
a'la m$cr*s*ft is much exaggerated IMO (by the time such things are
possible people dont follow fashion like long hair in females and
fancy beards in males) but i do like the anti-commercial point. it is
less that the terminator2 was to the terminator1, but it is more that
t3 was to t1 (and t2); it is just what the matrix reloaded is to the
matrix. good music and desing by the way.

Summary: hmmm...
Review: in-ter-es-ting and od. a few good twists like someone mentioned people that were dead came back, but its made to confuse you but you can still follow the plot. mediocr movie. wouldn't see it twice. only saw it cause of geraint wyn davies, im a forever knight fan. i would suggest watching it on tv or renting it, not buying it.
overall not bad, i think. good if you like seeing GWD go insane :P

Summary: Great Special Effects/ Mediocre Dialogue
Review: Hypercube has some great special effects, as well as a strong anti-corporate (Izon) anti-military statement. The actors were decent, but the script gives them mediocre to poor dialogue to work with. A lot of one-line exclamations: "Jesus Christ", "What's Happening", etc. Granted this isn't meant to be a dialogue oriented film, but it could've been much better with some good character development.
The special effects are great with Salvador Dali walls, variable time speeds (the cheesy scene with the dead mannequins excepted). But what we have on the human level isn't much. The characters are all connected to an all-powerful fascist corporation called Izon, which makes weapons for the military.
I liked the ending, but the problem was it's obvious the writer tagged the ending onto it without going back over the script to make the characters consistent with it. And the reason the mastermind gives for being in the cube makes no sense. However there is some comic relief also. Like when Kate asks the senile lady, "Do you know why we're here?" and she says, "I was never good at philosophy." And of course the lovers going around and around in the room. If anything this film makes many nods to 2001: Space Odyssey. It begins with a close-up of an eye a la 2001, has the bright white walls like the 2001 spaceships and the weird room at the end, has the time acceleration like the 2001 ending does, and the Hypercube ending is like the "Infinity and Beyond" segment. Overall ill-conceived, but worth watching as good entertainment. The original was better though low budget, and of course the original concept is based on the Twilight Zone episode: "5 characters in search of an Exit".

Review: What was it on that fateful August afternoon, that made me choose you out of thousands of other movies about cubes. Well, mostly it was my friend Brandon, who had seen your not so distant relative "The Cube" and was midly impressed. Granted, I am no geometry wiz, but if I had a choice between cutting my balls off and seeing you again, I'd probably see you again. But only cause I like my balls, which are more eliptical than cubical. However, there are many other things that are quite unpleasent that I would do before seeing you again. For example, drinking some milk that is just past the expiration and smells a little off. If you want a solid cube movie, see Jurassic Park. I love it. Overall, Cube 2: Hypercube is the greatest movie I have ever seen. I love you hypercube. Call me.

Review: Not nearly as good as the first Cube. There was no fear, or suspense. Pretty much a repeat of the first characters, but boring. It tries to go far graphically, but unfortunately the plot and logic of the film don't go far at all. Instead of focusing on the danger of the cube and ways to escape, most of the movie is spent trying explain theoretical math in lay terms and discussing characters viewers have never heard about...

Summary: Nice to get a sequel, but the acting disappoints
Review: Still wondering who built the Cube from the first movie? You get somewhat of an answer in this sequel. The downside is that you have to suffer through 90 minutes of some excruciating stock characters. And there are at least two actors in the film who, either due to the stiff dialogue they have to recite or due to the limitations of their one-dimensional characters, are painful to watch. But the lead in the film, Canadian actress Kari Matchett, is both very good and very cute, so that took some of the sting away. She's got great dimples, that Kari! Other than that, many elements of the first film are repeated here: rooms with unpredictable traps or characteristics, the rapid breakdown of civility, and murder. Some brief behind-the-scenes featurettes are included, some more mind-numbingly technical than others. All in all, not a TOTALLY satisfying film, but a more than decent attempt to take the original story to a different level and conclusion. Probably not worth purchasing, but absolutely worth renting if you liked the first film.
