Review: Great movie, why still on vhs?,I see alot of B&C grade movies on dvd.But not this 60s classic.It deserves to be on dvd along with
all the cool extras that come with it.Come on people of the baby boomer age, unite, contact the studios, tell them you want this and KingKong 1933 on dvd.

Summary: Well-made entertainment! But give us the complete version!
Review: Greatly maligned in the past (usually by Femi-Nazis jealous of Raquel's physique), this film is a true classic -- and a very well-made one at that. It's not and never was about reality. It's about entertainment. And as a "fantasy" set in an imaginary past, it's "great" entertainment. Don Chaffey's direction is a masterful display of Eisensteinian silent film technique. Wilkie Cooper's razor-sharp cinematography is rich & full of wide-angle depth. Mario Nascimbene's avant garde score evokes both mood and temperature. And Ray Harryhausen's visual effects were the state of the art in their day (sure, his stop-motion may strobe a bit, but that tiny allosuarus attacking the village has more "life" in it than any ILM CG dino I've ever seen). But beware the Fox Home Video VHS version. It's the 91 minute US theatrical cut -- missing a full 9 minutes of essential plot info and about 25% of Harryhausen's animation. The Fox laser disc is the complete 100 minute version as are the PAL VHS editions issued in Europe. Come on Fox, let's issue a NTSC DVD of the COMPLETE film -- it's already available in Europe on a PAL DVD! If your copy opens with "A Seven Arts/Hammer Production", it's the cut version. If your copy opens with "Associated British Pathe presents a Hammer Production", it's the complete version. Finally, to those who of you who don't like this film, may you be doomed to an eternity of watching Fred Zinnemann's A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS over & over & over & over again. You'll be begging for OMYBC after just two screenings.

Review: I am an avid Ray Harryhausen fan, and I consider ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. to be one of his most classic and memorable works. As I began collecting his films on DVD, I kept wondering when they'd release this one on DVD. Then, just this August, they released two more of Harryhausen's on DVD, THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS and THE VALLEY OF GWANGI (plus the Willis O'Brien flick THE BLACK SCORPION). That meant just two more films needed to be released on DVD in order for my collection to be complete. And this was one of 'em. I kept thinking, "WHERE IS IT?!" But now, and only three days after my birthday, ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. is finally coming to the format, and I couldn't be happier. I'm just hoping that it has more special features than a simple Restoration Comparison, but simply having this classic on a fully restored DVD is good enough for me! Now, if only Universal would get going on MIGHTY JOE YOUNG. . . . . . . . .

Review: I vote everyone who is a big fan of this movie give it the lowest rating imaginable. Hopefully Fox will get the message, take it off the market, and give us the edition it truly deserves. If we all voice together, we can SURELY make a difference!!

Review: No special features, no commentary by Raquel or Ray Harryhausen, her biggest film ever! And then they have released the short version of this film. WTF!! I have been waiting years for Fox to release this on DVD and this is what we get! They are in big trouble and need to apologize and redo this DVD right. Who ever are making these kinds of decisions are really OUT! BOO TO FOX! You let us down with this one.

Summary: Historical errors have never looked so good!
Review: Of course man and dinosaur never co-existed. Many of the respective dinosaurs featured in this film lived in different eras. And I don't think that a "Godzilla-sized" turtle ever roamed the planet.
But, that withstanding, "One Million Years, B.C." is a science fiction/fantasy lover's delight. It features two of filmdom's biggest assets: the effects of Ray Harryhausen and the anatomical splendor of Raquel Welch.
Composer Mario Nascimbene's score is quite stunning, combining the traditional with some rather avant-garde sound effects.
Overall, the 1967 film stands as a testament to the creative wizardry of Harryhausen, a man that knows how to have fun with clay and a vivid imagination.

Summary: ZERO stars. PLEASE don't buy this DVD.
Review: Once again we experience blatant, greedy corporate stupidity. This DVD version is the television version of the movie -- not the complete theatrical release. Fox cut out about 9 minutes from the complete movie resulting in this disappointing garbage apparently thinking we consumers are total morons. (The complete theatrical release on DVD can be purchased at amazon.co.uk.) Some of us have been impatiently waiting years for this movie to be released on DVD only to be utterly and profoundly disappointed. We were hoping the DVD version would be as complete as the terrific Laser Disc version that was released several years ago. Fox should pull this DVD from distribution, apologize to the buying public and re-release the actual theatrical version of this movie. That's not all. Heads should roll at Fox. This was no accident. Some starched-shirted MBA slacker jerk at Fox made the decision to release this tripe. What would Fox have lost by releasing the complete movie? They wanted to release some crud just to make a few lousy bucks. Fox felt the lowest common demoninator consumer wouldn't notice or care. Shame on them.

Summary: A Classic
Review: One Million Years B.C., is awesome. It has minimum dialogue and creatures a plenty. The musical score that accompanies the dramatic and well shot scenes gives the film a strong sense of emotion, and the viewer gets a feeling of what it would be like to live in the cruel world that is the movie's setting. Best of all, we get to see the lovely Raquel Welch in a fur bikini. Of couse, this film is a little scientifically inaccurate, but it's still great. Most of the prehistoric creatures were animated using stop-motion techniques, by none other than the great Ray Harryhausen (Mighty Joe Young, It Came From Venus). The special affects are great. A giant lizard and a brief shot of a giant turantula eating some smaller (but still oversized) insect adds to the monstrous mayhem. Watch and enjoy.
