Summary: TIME CHANGER is a fun, meaningful version of Curran's Story!
Review: The movie TIME CHANGER is a fun and meaningful adaptation of Curran's story! It deals with issues of morality and explores a fun adventure in time travel from about 100 years ago to today. This is bound to entertain kids. The changes over a century of the way people treat each other is also important. It can make children and in fact adults think about the type of people they have become. I think Time Changer is one of the most important movies ever made!

Summary: Better than expected, but still some problems
Review: The past few years have seen a new breed of Christian movie, with better production values and some "name brand" actors, with "The Omega Code" and "Left Behind" the most notable examples. Laudable as these efforts are, they still have a ways to go, but "Time Changer" seems to indicate they're on their way. Sure, Gavin MacLeod and Hal Linden aren't quite in their prime-time prime, but they're fine in this, lending a great deal of professionalism and credibility. The cinematography, sound, musical score, editing and special effects are all additional pleasant surprises, especially considering the relatively miniscule budget.

Another plus: Finally, an attempt to answer the question, "How does God figure into time travel?" According to this picture, travel to one's past is forbidden (you can't take physical material to a point before its origin), but future treks are not (within limits, as the film's very clever ending makes clear).

So why only three stars? I almost gave it four, but theologically, the movie is on some shaky ground. Its main premise -- that efforts to promote morality without explicitly mentioning the name of Christ inevitably lead to moral relativism -- seems to damn with faint praise works such as "The Lord of the Rings," which many evangelical writers have praised as one that leads people to Christ, even though He is never mentioned by name.

The movie's main problems are occasional wooden acting, particularly from D. David Morin as the lead, "Russell Carlisle," and some heavy-handed directing (no more evident than in the cringe-inducing "adorable, dirt-smudges-on-her-cheeks, street waif" scene mid-way through the movie. The scene where Jennifer O'Neil explains how the movies fell into debauchery is misinformed; she talks of the movies' "beginnings" in the 1930s, although the film industry had been around for more than two decades before. (The Hayes Code, instituted in the early 1930s, actually cleaned up a lot of what had come before it, so it wasn't an attempt to substitute a Christ-less morality for the real thing.)

As a Catholic Christian, I couldn't agree more that we need to receive Jesus on the most personal level, which we believe He commanded us to do through His gift of Himself in the Eucharist. I was chagrined to see the "personal message" section on the DVD, wherein ex-Catholic director Rich Christiano implies that Catholicism is antithetical to knowledge of the Bible and a close relationship with Christ. I would urge interested Protestants to read the works of Patrick Madrid, Karl Keating and Catholic convert Scott Hahn to get a more balanced view.

All in all, I applaud this movie's efforts to provide clean, meaningful family entertainment that upholds Christ as Lord. The production values are better than I expected, and though the dialogue is often weak ("did not" the people of the 1890s know that contractions are pefectly acceptable in English grammar?), the plot is fairly tight and well-written.

So for a very different time-travel tale, with solid performances from Hal Linden, Gavin Macleod, Richard Riehle and Paul Rodriguez, try "Time Changer." But keep in mind that the movie's theology isn't necessarily 100 percent accurate.

Summary: Time Changer- Life Changer!!
Review: This is a fantastic movie and I recommend it 100%. This movie will challenge you, it will make you think about your own beliefs. I admit that Mr. Morin's acting is a little stilted at times but maybe that was the point, to contrast his behavior with the more "laid-back" attitudes of the 21st century. Some of his reactions to modern-day things provide some comic relief- when he is at the library and the clerk is trying to explain to him about the microfiche computer and he pronounces it "micro.. fish?" I think it's great that seasoned actors such as Gavin McLeod and Hal Linden were in this movie, they gave great performances. Mr.McLeod has been a Christian since the mid-80's.
All in all I highly recommend this powerful and compelling movie to everyone!

Summary: just brilliant!
Review: this is a must for those who like good all round family entertainment. For us christians it is better than most of the movies you will find today. For people who have a dislike of god or the church this is not a film for you, it would be too morally upbeat, it has no violence, no sex, no swearing just good all round entertainment. To some the charactures may seem wooden but how many everyday films do we see that have the same but have lots of blowing up and stunts to cover that fact up. I found it to be one of the best films I have seen in a very long time.

Summary: This is NOT Hokey Christian stuff!
Review: This is an interesting an enthralling movie
Although ths movie may seem out of this world the morals in this movie are remarkably true and actuallly related to time today. Today we have gotten away from the church and say 'I ain't got no time for no church' but we should really think about spending time with God and fellow church members. This movie shows that we should not stray away from the church and from God. You should go see Time Changer. The message and the impact is very forceful in the spiritual rilm. Go see Time Changer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: A Horrible Waste Of Time
Review: This is not a movie, it's an infomercial. A silly attempt at brainwashing. Ten minutes into the film I was asking myself if the well known actors were responsible for community service. This movie was brought to a "film night" group that we've had for a year or so. I've felt compelled to join Amazon in an attempt to insure noone else is scammed, either by purchasing or renting this horrific display of complete stupidity. First the premise that; 1890 is holier than modern day. 1861-1865 Civil War. (1865 the year wacko gets his bible). 1847-1882 Jesse James Gang, The James Younger Gang, Dalton Gang 1861-1937 and numerous other outlaw gangs. Apartheid, hangings, child labor, prostitution etc. If you want to laugh out-loud at the too numerous to list idiocies, this propoganda non art, waste of celluloid, hunk of junk has to offer. Sit back and split your sides.

Summary: Time Changer
Review: This movie is bad. Almost bad beyond belief.

It's not a science-fiction movie, for those of you who were led to believe it is. It has sci-fi-elements but that's not the point of the movie. This is a Christian propaganda movie. It tells us that the reason there is so much bad morals in today's society is because we have separated Jesus from the morals and therefore don't know why we should act morally. It also tells us that we're living in the last days of the world.

The movie is extremely moralizing and preachy. One of the most (unintentionally) funny lines in the movie is "I believe that secular entertainment is one of the biggest tools that Satan uses to mislead people". Some of the supporting actors are decent, Jennifer O'Neal for example, but D David Morin who plays the lead part is unbelievably bad, but in a funny way. But then, I don't think any actor could play his part and say his lines and make it believable.

If you think this sounds like a good movie, you might enjoy this it. I guess this was made by, and for, Christian fundamentalist. Others, like me, might get some laughs out of it, but nothing more (except realizing the sad fact that there are people out there who make movies like these, and those who honestly thing they're good).

It seems like the Christians in America have millions to spend, making dozens of movies like this. I guess that's why they ask for donations all the time.

Summary: Great Movie !
Review: This movie was amazing. It had a very positive effect on me. I just finished watching it, not even 5 minutes ago. I wanted to write this review, before the effect the movie had on me, faded away. This movie also made me realize certain things. One of those things, is that I myself, have strayed from Jesus a bit. I stopped going to church 10 years ago, and I used to say prayers at night, before going to sleep. I haven't done that in many years. I still believe in Jesus, strongly, but I don't think about him and what he has done for us, nearly as much as I used to. This movie is very good. Not just for extremely religious people, but for anyone. The speech that Dr. Russell Carlisle gives at the church, right near the end of the movie, could almost bring a tear to your eye. It was a very moving speech, and as you are listening to it, you keep saying to yourself, that everything he is preaching to the people, is absolutely true. Society is moving further and further away from the teachings of Jesus. We have become more rude, and more cruel towards one another. We are more self-centered than we ever were before. In the movie, they quote the divorce rate in 1890 as being 5%, and they were shocked by that. Then in the year 2000, the divorce rate is quoted again, at 50%. Earlier this year, the United States had a divorce rate of 57%. That is the highest that it has ever been, in history. We were also tied with another country, for having the highest divorce rate, of any nation on Earth. What has happened to our society? Watch this movie, and I guarantee that it will make you think about your own life.

Summary: A very good buy!
Review: This movie was very entertaining and true. It IS true that we are straying away from the church and all of the godly principles that we built this nation on. This is not a joke movie, and a movie that really everyone should see. It is a good movie, and has some funny moments. You see, the main character has traveled from 1890, and over 100 years later and he doesn't know what a remote control, computer, etc. etc. is. Whenever someone mentions one of those items, he will say, "Computer." "Remote control." It is a really good movie and a great buy! It is very true that we have fallen away from God, by not going to church, not reading the Bible, not going by the principles of the Bible. This movie is definitely a good flick, one that you will need to see more than one time and is a very good film. It is put together very well, and the special effects are very cool! The cast is great, the message is great, well...I think you get the picture...the movie is great! I definitely recommend this movie if you want a good movie without so much trash and junk blaring through the screen.

Summary: gives insights into the problems of American Society
Review: Time Changer gives some good insights on the problems that face modern American society from a evengelical Christian perspective. Although it is not a top notch Christian Movie, Hal Linden and Gavin McLeod bring quality acting to this flick. This movie challenges the beliefs of Christians and Non-Christians.
