Summary: one of the best movies people haven't seen
Review: My first impression of this movie was based on one of the trailers that I had seen in the theatres. Unfortunately, the preview doesn't really tell you what the story is about, but ironically that made me enjoy the movie much more so.I'm no Siskel or Ebert, but this has to be one of the best movies of all time. It's definitely bound to become a cult classic. Like Blade Runner, this movie touches upon the search for identity, and that what makes it so engaging. The lighting and colors, as well as the set design, brings this movie to life. It is a must see!

Summary: Strong Sci-Fi in this flick
Review: Strong in story and plot, weak on characters, Dark City is a triumph considering today's mundane choice of genX and couples comedies. The story reminds of a Rod Serling twilight zone twist. This piece of sci-fi is sure to be talked about for a long time to come. Only hitch: the aliens look exactly like the cenobites from "Hellraiser" fame.

Review: No long speech here, but after watching the DVD commentary by Roger Ebert I gained a new respect for this film. I learned so much about that which I was ignorant to in the symbollism and film noir motif. Buy the DVD for the commentary if nothing else. The film jumped from an original 77/100 C to a 88/100 B+

Summary: It left me thinking for days...
Review: I saw this movie in the theator. A friend and I were the only ones there. After being drawn into this dark, amazing world, we left the theater and looked at each other and said "I don't know if I liked it". When the images and story line kept playing through my head for the next week, it was clear that I REALLY liked the movie. I tried to get my wife to go see it in the theator, but we missed it. This movie really can't be compared to others. Don't be turned off by the 1 dimentional characters, they are supposed to be that way and develop. Love the movie. I now own it.

Summary: Good acting and good setting, yet much to be desired.
Review: The actors did a good job of bringing a sense of realizim to the film. However I would have expected a little more realizim for Kifer. Direction calls for a good note and special effects were tastefull and well placed (most of the time). Minus 2 stars for story telling and the Dolby digital sound track. The story line evolves slowly at first, almost to slow. If you stick with it, the story line will catch you. I've never hear a wost sounding DD sound track. Imaging was totaly out of wack and voices seemed a little delayed (granted, I don't have the best theater system; but its pretty good). I'd expect this from a 1980's martial arts VHS but not from a film realsed this recently. Bottom line, if you have 96 minutes to spare check this dvd out for the cinemetography and the directors vision. By the way, rent it. Your dvd collection will survive with out this one.

Summary: Instant Classic
Review: There are moments in Dark City where I scratched my head, wondering why the Strangers looked more like cenobites from Cliver Barker's Hellraiser; why they all wore black; why the city itself seemed to be a mixture of era's gone by...by the end of the film, however, everything has a purpose and makes sense. Rufus Sewell's performance is reminiscent of Peter Lorre's in the classic "M", and the set decoration and production values are also a throwback to Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", considered to be perhaps the grand-daddy of the Sci-Fi film. But where Dark City seperates and elavates the Sci-Fi genre over recent bubble gum fare such as Armeggeddon is its existentialism tones that ring throughout, and the theme, what makes us tick? This was unfortunately a weak contender at the box office, but has already carved its own place in Sci-Fi history and is not to be missed. Kudos to Roger Ebert for having the good conscious of naming this the best film of 1998!

Summary: Tim Burton Meets Terry Gilliam
Review: This is a brilliant story on the theme of visualisation. Creation from thought, imagined limitations, darkness, and control residing in outsiders (who use the bodies of the dead). Great allegory, great visuals (like Batman meets Terry Gilliam). Nice to see some UK actors (playing baddies as usual). Great entertainment, and thought provoking to boot.

Summary: Comedy at its best
Review: I saw this film in the theater and on video. I enjoyed it more on video. The images are dark and needed to be rewound a couple times to truly appreciate. I'm glad I have my VCR in my bedroom. It took me almost 11 hours to watch this. This is the perfect video to watch while you are clipping your toenails
