Summary: Sydney = virtual reality
Review: "Dark City" and "The Matrix" were both filmed in Sydney, and I'm fairly certain some streetscapes were used in both films. It does bug me a little that left-hand drive vehicles are forced into non US locations for no story-based reason.

Review: Without a doubt, this is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.A man awakes with no memory and a dead whore in his hotel room. He's pursued by the police, aliens, and his own doubts. Eventually, he discovers he's a pawn in a much bigger game of illusion, and key to the Strangers survival. It is very similar to The Matrix, yet about 80 years back in time. Did anyone notice that nobody had a TV, computer, or telephone answering machine, and most of the clothing was from the 1930s? I highly reccommend this movie, and I almost suggest you buy the soundtrack as well.

Review: This movie showed me how small and limited we are. Where are we from? where can we go? The movie brings to us the idea that we can't go anywhere from where we are, and we don't now where do we came from, and we are nothing more but a sum of our memories. It is a movie that nobody can miss!

Summary: Something Weird This Way Comes--a prequel to the MATRIX
Review: THIS MOVIE IS NOT REALLY A PREQUEL TO THE MATRIX, but it's almost the same film. DARK CITY is the neatest in a long time. Not too many people understood it, and it came out from nowhere; so it didn't enjoy the sleeper hit status that the later film, MATRIX, did. Essentially, we're dealing with the same material, but whereas MATRIX is Techno, DARK CITY is Gothic. Both movies redefine the reality of their respective characters. John Murdock awakes, as if from the womb, in a bathtub. He knows not who is or where he's from. However, he suddenly becomes accutely aware he is being hunted in a city where daylight never shines. Hunted both by the police and by the Strangers, alabaster apparitions cloaked in black leather. Slowly, Murdock learns his place in life, which as mutable from night to night as the clothes we wear from day to day. And the truth is so shocking you would never have guessed it . . . unless some schmuck told you beforehand. Gothic sci-fi at it's greatest; better than even director Proyas' ealrier film, THE CROW.

Summary: Dark City is a genuine fantasy classic.
Review: I saw this film during its somewhat belated release in Turkey in November and was instantly struck by its great look and ideas. It's such a shame that such an elaborate sci-fi work is so much overlooked while other less successful films are given so much hype! The way its story was created as a puzzle which fully gave itself away only during the final 10 minutes was in my opinion the most important factor in its complete financial failure. It's a genuine fantasy classic whose real value will only be realized in the years to come. The DVD version which I bought 3 months ago is a fine edition with many extra features, the most important of which is the running commentary by the director and the key crew members. That said, currently owning only a Dolby Surround system, I found the sound mix completely disappointing, particularly in comparison to the many titles by various distributors currently available in Turkey. And finally, where is the isolated audio track mentioned in the Amazon.com review?

Summary: Complex, visually stunning, even better on a second viewing
Review: This is a complex film of alien mind control and matter control versus the strength of humanity. Each night the aliens put everyone to sleep and give them new memories and identities as part of an experiment. In look it is remeniscent of Bladerunner, the aliens are straight out of Hellraiser but all together the film comes out as unique. The City is the star, a dark shapshifting mass of skyscrapers walkways and bridges, which adds an extra element to chases as doors appear and staircases change shape. This film lingered in my memory growing in stature, and was even better the second time around even though I knew the ending. A sleeping classic waiting to be recognised.

Summary: A definte mind probe.
Review: I enjoy two types of movies, ones that are purely entertainment and ones that make you think. This one has both qualities. It takes awhile to begin to figure out what is happening. But, the intrique, visual effects and story line are well done. Its like a good mystery novel, you don't want to put it down until you solve the puzzle. Pay attention to this movie, you can't be distracted and follow it. I think the Digital sound could have been more technical/better produced to go along with the excellent visual effects. In one word this movie was captivating. It had a Clockwork Orange tinge to it.

Review: I watched the movie mainly because in many reviews including amazon.com review "the crow" by James O'barr was mentioned, yet i found out it was nothing like it (except for the dark scenery maybe), this film is much more like something Neil Gaiman (sandman) or Peter Milligan (enigma) would write, still i found out this was a great movie only in a completely different way than I imagined
