Rating: Summary: OH WOW, THIS IS A GOOD ONE Review: A fantastic little sci-fi that plays around with the concept of (pre)destination and mental illness. Done to near perfection. The actors shine but not as much as the incredible script.
Rating: Summary: Simply amazing Review: When this movie first came out, I ignored it and dismissed it as just another time travel movie. One night, with nothing to do, a bunch of us rented this movie. I was blown away. All the actors were at the top of their game. The storyline and how it all ties together is breathtaking, and will leave you to discuss it at length immediately after viewing it.
Rating: Summary: Keeps you guessing til the end... Review: Well, what can I say? This film has to be watched to be believed. The lead character (played by Willis) leads you on a journey that eventually questions even your own sanity as it twists and turns. How can he be from the future? Is time travel impossible? Is he insane? You are kept guessing even to the end, and are then shocked to discover the terrible truth about his nightmares as a child... I for one would recommend this film purely on the journey it leads you on, backed by the nightmarish landscapes and the eventual feeling of claustrophobia. Who would have thought that the future could be so bleak? Yet... Time travel is always a difficult subject in films. If you are to believe the subject, it brings the film all the more closely into your imagination. And to actually see that time travel, even if it is real, cannot change time (which is very confusing in itself) is an amazing yet horrific trip. The only comment is that although the final scene 'I'm in insurance' gives you hope, it does feel slightly tacked on by Hollywood, and you hope that despite this, the future is still assured (no matter how it turns out) - mainly because it disagrees with the entirely plausible script up to that point. I hope I've not given too much away if you don't know the film. It's worth buying - you'll watch it again and again.
Rating: Summary: TAKES TIME TRAVEL TO A NEW DIMENSION Review: I am a Terry Gilliam Fanatic. If you are not familliar with his works some of his others are Brazil /Monty Python's The holy grail/The Fisher King/ The Adventures of Baren Muchasen/ Time Bandits/12 Monkeys/Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. And coming soon the Defective Detective. Terry Gilliam Is the MAN!!!! don't forget that. He is a genius and is the best in the field of Directing.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly good job by hack Pitt Review: Of course, anyone could act nutso on screen/stage...it's not difficult. But I have to give the man his due...after watching some of his perfectly awful acting jobs (Thelma and Louise, Legends of the Fall, etc.), Pitt finally did a good job. Of course, Willis and Stowe were simply amazing as usual. And former Python Gilliam rocked as always. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: We get DTS, but Collectors Edition extras removed??? Review: Don't buy this version. Get the other (non DTS) Collector's Edition. DTS isn't worth all the extras that were pulled out to make this version. I was shocked when I realized that this DVD DOESN'T have all the extras the other version does. There are literally NO extras on the DTS version other than chapter search.
Rating: Summary: More movies could be that well done. Review: Even though the movie is loosely based on the French "La jete," it does not really matter. "12 Monkeys" is more creative; it takes a different aspect of the original story and adds to it a more twisted plotline. Don't be discouragerd it the movie makes no sense at first. Watch it again and the meanings will speak themselves to you. Appreciating this flick will be those who like the grotesque and the bizarre as presented in many cinematographic successes of the late 1980s and 1990s. Enjoy, explore and be amazed. The acting is actually better than what can be expected from a second rate performers who starred in either weird (Stowe) or beat-me-up action idiocies (Willis).
Rating: Summary: Just a mishmash of hype Review: 12 Monkeys is a very tedious film. Even once you realize whats really going on, you don't care. It's like one of the movies you might see at a hotel (actually where I saw it), cheap and made for cable. The only thing good about the film is Bruce Willis.
Rating: Summary: A TERRIFIC SCI-FI MASTERPIECE Review: 12 monkeys is absolutely great.director terry gilliam does it again. It is definitely a masterpiece.Bruce willis gives one heck of a performance along with brad pitt.Nominated for 2 academy awards including best supporting actor this movie is definitely a must see.Should have been nominated for best picture too.
Rating: Summary: A truly brilliant science fiction epic Review: 12 Monkeys is incredible. This movie is about a convict who travels to the past to gather information about a deadly virus that will kill five billion people. After watching this film, I couldn't keep my mind off of it. It's ending portrays brutal reality and the theme seems sure of itself. Before this film, I considered Dark City the best science fiction movie. 12 Monkeys definitely is the greatest sci-fi film to ever have been made.
