Summary: The Best
Review: This is the best Christmas movie I have ever seen!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A terrific heartwarming classic!
Review: This is the best Christmas movie that I have ever seen! The excelent Elizabeth Perkins delivers an outstanding performance as the over-worked, good-parent, Dori Walker the mother of Susan, played by none other than the child superstar, cutie pie, Mara Wilson. Richard Attenborough looks exactly like Santa Claus if you ask me! This tale is a mix of a Christmas Miracle and a loving romance. When Santa Claus was sent to the asylum, there was superb acting by all of the actors and actresses. If you love Christmas movies, you will definetely love this!

Summary: The Classic to end all Classics
Review: This movie is without a doubt my favorite christmas movie of all time. Richard Attenbourogh(forgive my spelling)remains one of my favorite actors of all time. He was the perfect choice to portry the greatness that is Santa Clause. The actor lineup is great, the original of this movie was good, but it pales in comparison to this one. The plot is amazing, and this film just tugs at your heart, and maybe even will spark a few tears. As you see the one of the most beloved figures in history on a trial, which literally turns into a DOES SANTA CLAUSE EXIST trial. Watch as New York city and the World come together to do what Chris Cringle nows so well, how to help others. This is a great film, and one of my favorites of all time. Does Santa exist, and the films trial ending is the greatest part of all, I BELIEVE, DO YOU.

Summary: Has It's Moments But Lacks the Warmth of the Original!
Review: This remake has it's moments and has a very good cast, Richard Attenborough, Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Perkins and Mara Wilson but it can't hold a candle to the original black and white version and lacks the warmth of that old classic. The actors were fine, it was the atmosphere of the movie that I found kind of cold and lacking of charm compared to the original version This is only my personal opinion.

Summary: Kris Kringle is Kool!

Summary: Shameful
Review: This remake was an insult to the original classic. The writing borrows extensively from George Seaton's nearly perfect 1947 screenplay, but discards some of the brilliant plot devices and completely omits one of the key moments which we all remember fondly. The scenes replacing them are nowhere near as clever or heartwarming. In fact this film turns very nasty and dark when it comes to the moment in the plot where Kris is framed and sent to the asylum accused of being crazy and a violent offender. The way the Original film dealt with it was sheer genious and not a bit ugly or offensive. The actors in the principal roles are the only lights flashing anywhere on this dim and dreary Christmas tree.

Summary: It's been done better
Review: This telling of the beloved "Miracle on 34th Street" isn't half bad, but the original is much, much better. This one tries for a crisper, more updated version, not realizing that there was a timeless quality to the first that didn't need to be updated. Although there are a few scenes here and there that I really thought were cute, such as using "In God We Trust" on the back of a dollar bill as proof of Santa's existence, or interviewing the Air Force pilot who explained that he'd flown over the North Pole hundreds of times and never once saw a toy workshop.

Still, the original is sweeter without getting sacharin, and at many turns, considerably more ingenious.

Summary: A Wonderful Holiday Film
Review: This updated version of "Miracle on 34th Street" is a wonderful adaptation of the original Christmas classic. Mara Wilson is adorable as the little girl who doesn't believe in Santa, and Richard Attenborough plays a completely beliveable Kris Kringle who will have even the biggest "humbug" believing in Santa before the film is over. I watch this movie every year [at Christmas] and love it more with each and every viewing. If you love Christmas and all of those "warm, fuzzy" feelings that come with the season, then this movie can't miss.

Summary: Sweet Christmas movie
Review: When I watched this on Christmas Eve, my mother and grandma both cried their eyes out, which perhaps gives you an idea of how brimming this movie is with Christmas spirit. It's basically about a little girl, Sophie (Mara Wilson), who doesn't believe in Santa. But when she meets Kris Kringle (Richard Attenborough), a department store Santa she begins to have doubts. However, all this seems to be challenged when Kringle is arrested for attacking a provocative customer and is forced to prove that he is really Santa Clause, conveniently represented by Sophie's mom's on/off boyfriend. But Sophie will only be convinced if she's given a real family for Christmas.
So you get the idea. This is jam-packed with Christmas cheer, smiles and soft-focus sentimentality, which isn't altogether a bad thing, especially when watched at Christmas time. Wilson, as usual, is an absolute delight in the role of disheartened little girl, making you wonder what exactly has happened to this gifted young actress who wowed audiences with her astute performances in movies such as this and Matilda. Attenborough is also excellent as Santa/grandfather figure, being careful never to slip too far into sentimentality yet maintaining a moving performance. Obviously this is a children's film and perhaps it's not fair to judge such a sweetly genuine film with a cynical eye; indeed, the resolution, where the whole city takes part in a 'We believe' campaign' is pretty effective. However, you do have to wonder why the spirit of Christmas has to reside in Santa, surely symbolic of presents rather than, as Kringle puts it, man's ability to repress their own anger. Still, this is a nice little Christmas movie that will certainly please the kids, and judging by my family's response, older audiences too. Old-fashioned? Yes, but that's not necessarily something that should be sniffed at.
