Review: This miniseries reminds me of 2000's Disney's Dinosaurs with almost the same concept of animation but with people in it This was a great miniseries of 2002 that ABC came up with on the Wonderful World of Disney I'm not a Dinosaur fan like my little cousins are but It was very interesting and very good and I even here there coming up with a tv series in the Fall 2002!!! So I recomend you buy this even if your not a Dinosaur fan like my cousins you'll definitely want to see this!

Summary: Good, Entertaining Movie
Review: This was very nice, well made movie. I would say it was not quite as good as Lord of the Rings, but it certainly compares to many of the Disney movies in quality. My sisters absolutely loved it, and I have always been a dinosaur fanatic so I enjoyed it too. If you liked the movie, you might also want to look at James Gurney's Dinotopia books.

Summary: A Great Family Epic!
Review: I first heard of Dinotopia a few years ago when I caught my younger brother reading one of the books in the series. Not long after, I started hearing rumors of a Miniseries to air on ABC. I decided I would watch it to see what all of the hype was about. After twenty minuits I was hooked! This 6 hour long epic is able to hold the interest of young and old for a long period of time.

David and Karl are half brothers who go on a rutine flight with their father. But they hit a thunderstorm and crash into the ocean. David and Karl are forced to leave their father behind and swim ashore. They are both shocked to find that not only do dinosaurs still exsist, but that they co-exist with humans in a utopian society. But when the sunstones, wich give the poeple power and keep carnivours away from the villages, fail, David and Karl set out to restore power before all of Dinotopia is lost forever.

The special effects were very well done compared to other made for television movies. This movie was so popular, there is a t.v series comeing to ABC this fall starring Eric Von Detten (The Princess Diaries." You and your family will love Dinotopia.

Summary: Dinotopia, a great movie
Review: I watched the movie and thought it was wounderful. If you like movies that make you think about the world, then this is the movie for you.
The movie starts when two young men and their father crash their plane in the ocean and swim to a mysterious island, but htey think thier father drowned. They soon run into civilization and see a dinosaur. They think they are going to take a "bus" to Waterfall City (a braciasaurous). They soon reach the city and find their place as Dionotopians. One is shipped off to a hatchery and completely hates it. The other brother is to go to Canyon City and learn how to fly a teronadon. He is terrified of heights. They both learn to except what has happened, but soon find out a shocking revalation.

Summary: Walking With Dinosaurs Entertainment Style!
Review: Dinotopia not only gives you inofrmation about the species that lived over 65 million years ago, but it's very entertaining and old-fashioned. The dinosaurs look very real to me. And although it takes a long time to watch, it is good that the director didn't push this fascinating story into eighty minutes, like most movies. This movie is at least three hours, but it's worth it because it is very interesting and it defintely will catch your attention.

Summary: Pretty, but that's it.
Review: The special effects are quite good. The plot, pacing, acting, internal consistency, and internal logic, much less so.

Even fantasy must have some internal logic to maintain willing suspension of disbelief. It needs some tension, some drama, and some surprises. Dinotopia lacks much of this.

Most of the plot twists are foreshadowed well in advance. The major suprises mostly come from hopelessly illogical acts by the major characters. (An example, someone tries to kill a character, in Waterfall City. The victim survives and is rescued. Not only does it never seem that any charges are brought against the villain, he reappears later and is accepted warrily by our heros.) The plotting is obvious, when it is hoplessly muddled. There is foreshadowing about a major secret of the dinosaurs, a missing commandment on the obilisk of "rules". When revealed the secret is an anti-climax. The motives of the carivore villains are unexplored -- are they as intelligent as the herbavores? Why are they guarding the entrances to the underground ruins -- tradition?
Even the "suprise" appearance of one character is too well foreshadowed to be a surprise. More of a "huh", thought so.

No explanation is given for the one bit of driving tension, why the mysterious sunstones are wearing out, and why anyone would expect those underground not to be failing at the same rate.

No explanation is even remotely tendered for how a 200 mile wide island of such diverse terrain could possibly be hidden in the Atlantic. (Given the wreckage and the islanders' knowledge of a war with Germany, the Atlantic makes more sense than the Pacific.) Even a nod towards time travel, dimentional portals, etc. would have been handy.

All in all -- the pretty pictures aren't worth 4 hours of your time.
