Summary: a dream I had
Review: My review of E.T.
I really do think that this is one of the most classic children and adult movies of all time. I will never forget the first time I saw it and how moving it was. I believe that the creator hit an alien right on the mark. Let's always believe that we can have special friends.

Summary: Buy this DVD!
Review: This is one of my all time favorite films. As a kid, I thought this movie was coolest ever. It was about regular kids in a regular neighborhood who have a chance meeting with a Extra-Terrestrial, "E.T.", and become his friend. To this day, I still love it... it still makes me teary-eyed!

I bought this DVD even though I had never seen the new version. The first thing I did was watch it. I must say the additions were jarring to me. First of all, E.T. hopping like a bunny rabbit to escape really bothered me (One of the funniest parts in the original was E.T.'s heart light zooming through the grass! You knew he was terrifed)! Secondly, E.T.'s digitally enhanced faced was freaky/scary! There was actually too much animation in his face. Thirdly, those extra scene seemed watered down and unneccesary. I thought to myself "No wonder they were cut out of the original". Especially the added Halloween scene with the bonfires... that seemed totally out of place in the film.

If I had a choice, I would still say the original is THE BEST version. But in all fairness, I've seen the original over 10 times and the remake only once.

I still am really happy with my Collector's Set. It is amazing to see how they were able to change the original. Also, the extras are really interesting... the reunion with the actors was an added bonus! I recommend it!

Summary: Classic Family Fun...Great DVD Package....
Review: This review refers to the DVD 2-Disc Limited Edition(Widescreen) of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial".....

Universal has put together a great package deal in this limited edition of E.T. This package was supposed to be discontinued but I see it is still for sale and if you love this movie, you should grab it up while you can. There is another edition with 3 discs and even more extras(if your pocketbook can afford it and you really feel you need more extras), but this one has not only both versions of the film ,but plenty of features to peruse through on it's own(and costs alot less).

I really only wanted the original edition at first, as I thought this film was already perfect, but buying it with the newly enhanced version seemed to be the only way to get it, and for the price of this classic, that may be enjoyed by the whole family often, and for many years to come, I have just come to realize that the second disc is icing on the cake.

The story of a young boy who befriends a cute and friendly alien that has been accidently left behind by his ship is one that touched our hearts 20 years ago and still does today. It was directed by Steven Spielberg who says this is his most personal film. Wow.. that's really something considering all the gifts he has given us over the years. It stars a very young Henry Thomas as Elliot, the one E.T. comes to for help to get back home, and he performs so well that he has us believing this alien is real and tugs at our heartstrings throughout the film. Also starring are a really young Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote and Dee Wallace(who has since become known as "E.T.'s Mom"), all turning in outstanding performances. And of course there is that marvelous, goose-bump evoking score by John Williams that has become so familiar over the years.

You can see all the bonus features(including a touching reunion) that you get in the technical information section on this product, but I can tell you that, although some subtle changes were made to the newer version, BOTH versions look like new. The picture is presented in widescreen(I saw a full-screen package available for sale as well, if you prefer)and has been masterfully restored. The colors are vivid, and all scenes are crystal clear. On the back of the package it only indicates that disc 1(the 2002 version) has the choice of 5.1 DTS,or Dolby, but I was pleasantly suprised to see that disc 2(1982 version) also has these choices and is beautifully remastered. The sound fills the room! It also may be viewed in French and Spanish in Stereo. There are subtitles and captions as well.

A film to be enjoyed year after year, generation after generation. Don't miss out on this great package deal....enjoy...Laurie

Summary: One of the All-time Best!
Review: I don't think there is one bad thing I could say about the movie "E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial"! I have loved this movie since I was a child and loved it even more when it was re-released in the theaters and released on DVD.

I think this is the perfect movie for children and adults and shows us that friendship can cross any boundary or obstacle. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who has not seen it. It's probably the only movie that can make me cry every single time I see it! Watch this movie! You won't be disappointed!!!!

Review: If I could only own one DVD, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Ultimate Gift Boxed Set would be the one. The Extra Features are endless. This is easily the greatest motion picture of all time! Also the greatest DVD ever assembled. Enough Said!

Summary: I've never seen it before.
Review: I've never seen this movie before. I was going to see it when it was re-released into theaters but I missed it. So I do know that Debra Winger is ET's voice and that ET is an alien who gets lost on Earth. Isn't that simply amazing? I'm gonna watch this film again and then re-edit my review to add new impressions.

Summary: Flying High With Elliott
Review: E.T. finally makes its way to DVD via two versions, the original theatrical cut and the 2002 remastered and retouched version that director Steven Spielberg revisited. I must confess, the differences between the two versions are minimal, reminding me of how well done the effects were the first time around. Still, the subtle added touches that have been incorporated into the 2002 cut, while I don't feel add anything fresh to the enjoyment of the film, nevertheless, don't detract from its enjoyment either. Hello George Lucas, are you getting any of this?
Universal has done a masterful job with the transfer of both editions. Shadow delineation and contrast are superbly rendered. Colors are well balanced. The soundtrack has been marvelously restored with John Williams' memorable score jumping out of the speakers in this 5.1 remix. The extras include a making of documentary and some fluff regarding the reissue. Candid moments caught by the documentary reveal that neither Henry Thomas or Drew Barrymore looking thrilled to be revisiting the film, perhaps because neither's career reached quite so high after the original theatrical engagement. Oh, well, this is definitely a nice job by Universal and well worth the wait.

Summary: Is this necessary?
Review: One of Spielberg's bests. Why are reviews for this movie even necessary? Moving, touching, beautiful. That's all I can say highly recommended.
