BEST ACTORS YOU COULD CHOOSE TO THIS MOVIE - KIEFER SUTHERLAND, KEVIN BACON, OLIVER PLATT, JULIA ROBERTS AND WILLIAM BALDWIN.WIDESCREEN AND FULL SCREEN VERSIONS ON ONE DVD. NO STOOPID, GETTING ON YOUR NERVES COMMERCIALS, NO TRAILERS (HOWEVER, THEY COULD GIVE THE TRAILER OF THE MOVIE ITSELF). JUST THE PLAIN MOVIE - SOMETHING EXCELLENT !

Summary: Good Statment!
Review: I first saw this uncut (Violence,coarse language, some nudity) on showcase (HBO), it was great of course, and then on fox. My Mom only saw the second half of this film but wished she had saw the first, becuase she thought it was great! The elements of this fil show that it's not only about yourself, but about others aswell. It shows you just can't hurt your self but you can hurt someone else in a much harder way. This film shows revenge, to those main charocters (Bacon,Roberts,Sutherland,Platt,Baldwin) who hurted them in the past. But these now nice and kind charocters had the guts to appolagize, and learn something of themselves. I've gave reviews to other films (Sleepers,Goodfellas,In the line of fire, Murder in the first) though this film shows it's message across than any of them (EVEN MURDER IN THE FIRST!) See "Flatliners", and mezmirized. Best performance by Sutherland!

Review: Rather morbid film of five medical students to experiment with death and find that ghosts from the grave coming back to hauting them. The story is both morbid and lacks creditbility, which is not a surprise when you consider that it's made by the same film director who gave us Batman and Robin. Nuff Said.

Review: Compare this movie with SAVED BY THE LIGHT: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DANNION BRINKLEY starring (co-incidently) Eric Roberts. Both handle the subject of experiencing (first hand), after death, the pain you have caused others. I cannot decide which one is better, perhaps the latter.

Summary: Sixth Sense without the little boy
Review: When the line's blue and flat you start to see things. Bullethole in the windshield, black&white heaven of sensual women blaming you, kids playing their cruel and oftentimes too real games, etc. These are the things that hold the key to the troubles in your life, to your mind and, last but not least, to your death. Already in the Middle-Ages church saw scientists as men who wanted to be equal with God and thus had a pact with Satan. These doctor Faustuses were often called witches and mages and they were burned. But maybe being burned is not the worst thing when you try to rise too high, maybe THAT would be just a dream compared to the nightmare that your (un)life may become. "The Flatliners" speaks about five med-students who want to see what's beyonf the final frontieer of life. They want to see if there is really a white tunnel with an angelic guide. One of them makes it through and then the others want to go in there too. An auction starts where the bets are not made in money but in time you are willing to spend in clinical death. Problem is that none of them dares to speak about theit fears and problems. It is a helluva good movie that already back in 1990 dared to enter the grounds where "Sixth Sense" visited only last year. All the actors are playing their parts quite well and to me this was a surprise in the case of young Julia Roberts. Visual effects (the after-death scenes) were stunningly surreal and the overall gothic feeling stays unbroaken untill the end. The only disappointment was the classical American ending, but even that couldn't diminish the radiance of this movie. Sure worth seeing.

Summary: kids dont try this at home...
Review: An avant-garage group of medical students experiment upon themselves to indulge in an intriguing theory. Nothing like a near death experience so they say to kickstart the ongoing monotony of ones daily grind. Well these students prove that and more. If only their professors could see them now. This is definitely living life on the edge. Led by the manic Nelson played appropriately by Kiefer Sutherland and Rachel, a very tense but competent Julia Roberts this disparate group decide to go further where no man or woman has gone before, and returned to tell the tale. Each of the main characters submits and goes under, and returns safely to tell there own astonishing experience. Alone however each person discovers one startling side effect of their journey into the unknown. Enough said. Intriguing is the only word I can find to describe this synopsis. What it would be like to see the other side. I personally am willing to wait years for the experience which will probably come to us all. Schumachers medical school must have the gloomiest study halls in america complete with gargoyles and dimly lit lecture theatres. The whole plot I decided was not entirely implausible which is why it worked for me. I was also touched by the redemption scene between Winnie and David. Wouldnt we all live our lives differently if we could see the results of some of our actions. But in the end it is a cautionary tale of how our sins do sometimes catch up with us. But not like this...so please kids, dont try this at home.

Summary: Modern Gothic with an all-star cast
Review: 'Masterpiece' is not a word that springs readily to mind when describing "Flatliners", but Joel Schumacher's modern Gothic melodrama is played completely straight, with none of the campy self-indulgence which spoiled his earlier stab at the genre, "The Lost Boys" (1987). Careful not to signpost too many of the inherent religious overtones, Peter Filardi's script provides roles for some of Hollywood's Brightest Young Things (Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, amongst others) as unlikely med students whose experiments with the near-death experience (NDE) leads inevitably to a confrontation with the sins of their past. Ignoring the wider implications of the NDE, Filardi and Schumacher focus instead on the individual traumas of their glamorous cast, thereby trivialising the subject. Nonetheless, the film certainly LOOKS spectacular, employing an outre lighting scheme and a fabulous neo-Gothic set design as a means of illustrating the narrative's thematic concerns, though a handful of critics appear to have wilfully misread this aspect of the production. Watch out for Kiefer Sutherland's first 'vision' in a back alley (chapter 8) - one of the creepiest moments in American cinema that this writer has EVER seen... Like most of Columbia Tristar's early DVDs, this disc offers no more than a superb anamorphic letterbox version of the film (along with a full-screen print for anyone who's interested). There's no trailer, but that's a small price to pay for the superlative quality of the transfer itself.

Summary: Joel Shumacher's better work
Review: Joel Shumacher royally screwed up the entire 'Batman' franchise, whereas his earlier works, such as the Grisham adaptions and this frightening flick 'Flatliners,' remain some of my favorites. He works well here with the awesome plot and the great actors, and has a hell of a time as any viewer can easily see in creating an eerie depth to his film, but where 'Flatliners' tends to fall short after every viewing is the ending, which turns a nearly remarkable film into a satisfying emotional flick. However, the fault lies with the screenwriter, and not Shumacher, which makes 'Flatliners' one of his best films, next to the wonderful adaption of Grisham's 'A Time To Kill' with Sandra Bullock. So what's wrong with the ending? Well, it takes a wonderfully inventive story and turns it around, much like 'The Sixth Sense' did, into an emotional drama. This type of 'horror-drama' thing worked for 'The Sixth Sense' with perfect clarity. However, this technique comes up empty-handed in 'Flatliners,' missing the perfect blend '6 Sense' had and creating an ending that just simply didn't seem to fit. However, this film succeeds in all other areas, especially that of acting. Keifer Sutherland has rarely been better than he is here, with his witty evil look and the ominous way he portrays himself onscreen. Julia Roberts is stunning and very emotionally moving in her role, and tends to be one of the most memorable characters, next to Sutherland. Kevin Bacon does an average performance, and William Baldwin - well, although he simply can't act, he does his damndest here, which is good enough for me. Oliver Platt is humorous, as always, while adding depth to a co-starring character in some respects, although at times he seems out-of-place here. Overall, I enjoyed this film. It scared the bejeepers out of me, and made me cry at the end, which in itself felt odd and out-of-place, but that's okay. It makes you think, and it's doubtful you'll forget the unforgettable story or the superb acting by the three title characters, Sutherland, Roberts, and Bacon. And it raises a very intersting question and, in my opinion, answers it quite well... what happens in life after death? and, more importantly, what happens after you've come back from the dead?
