Summary: I have nothing but respect for Terence Fisher...however
Review: this film is absolutley BORING. I appreciate that Fisher was trying to do something different(considering this was the 5th Hammer/Frankenstein film) and I agree with a previous reviewer that this film is ultimately a drama(not a horror film) but, as I said, it is just flat out boring.

Summary: Who is the real monster
Review: This is Hammer's fifth Frankenstein movie in the series and again Peter Cushing plays the Baron. He transplants the brain of a brilliant but insane Dr. Brandt into the body of Dr. Richter. The Baron appears to be the monster and the creature is just an unhappy victim, which is apparent in the opening scene where the Baron is wearing a hideous mask. At the end, the creature, whose mental agonies have turned into a hatred for the Baron, carries the Baron back into a blazing house.

The next in the series is The Horror Of Frankenstein (1970).

Summary: The Baron is in the building...
Review: This is one of Hammer's very best productions as well as their best Frankenstein film. Peter Cushing is wonderful as the Baron, more ruthless and sadistic this time out--he stops at nothing to get his way. The supporting cast of Veronica Carlson, Simon Ward and Freddie Jones are excellent. And the fiery cat and mouse finale is a total knockout--the best finale in the Hammer canon.

Warner's DVD is excellent. Picture and sound are sharp and robust. The 1.85:1 framing seems perfectly accurate. Theatrical trailer included.

Summary: "Terence Fisher's Cynical Horror Masterpiece."
Review: This is with out question Hammer's and Terence Fisher's greatest film-not to menion the best of the hammer frankenstein series. The film is a technical masterpiece, and in subtext one of the most brooding, most powerful horror films of the modern era, a reflecting of the nilihism of society of the late 1960's, coupled with Fisher's genius as a Director (hammers best) and one of the best of the post modern era of horror. Fisher's film is Hitchcock at his best-not to mention Htchcock himself admired this film, it's not ironic both Fisher and Hitchcock were in many ways on par with each other-in similarites. Fisher was a director who never went for flashy camerwork, or complex narratives, he was pure story telling, and while his direction seemed somewhat static, he was a master of composition, an framing--This film alone is a prime example of his dead on framing and his precise editing style and unigue cross cuttings--this is a film in which i believe is perhaps the best Frankenstein film 3rd only to universal's The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and the classic orginal , Frankenstein (1931) Which is enhanced by Peter Cushing's most cold-blooded and best portrayal of the Baron-a man sick and embittered with society-a man who will go on ends to fulfill his scientific desires-even if it means he has to Blackmail, Rape and Kill--This is the begining of the end of the Baron's career. "Buy this movie now!"

Summary: One of the Best.
Review: Yes, I am a Peter Cushing fan (even in Star Wars ) I remember watching this movie at the base theater when it first came out back in 1968, people were running up the aisles to get away from the scary moments.( I was only 8 yrs old at the time ) I recently watched the video release and noticed some parts from the movie were cut out. Even still its a great horror movie.
