Summary: Brando's sidekick is a winner! Don't miss this one.
Review: I loved this movie, and who is that crazy little guy who accompanies Brando wherever he goes? He looks just like Karen's dog, Zoonie. Don't miss this movie for this reason alone.

Summary: Small Island, Smaller Script...
Review: Having never read the H. G. Wells' story this film is based upon, I can't gauge just how faithful this movie is to the original story or the earlier film adaptions of it. However, the movie itself doesn't exactly stand up very well at all despite some good make-up effects.

An U.N. inspector is rescued at sea by a neurobiologist returning to a secluded island home. The inspector is convinced to temporarily stay on the island until he can be transported back home. However, once on the island, he finds the inhabitants are more then he expected...

Another famous scientist has discovered a way of fusing animals and humans, but only temporarily. These new creatures are kept in line through electronically-transmitted pain, carried out by none other then Marlon Brando. This begins to unravel, though, when one of the creatures learn of the doctor's secret.

Unfortunately, this movie just doesn't have enough material to fill a movie. A man makes animal-human hybrids...and the point is...what? Well, nobody really cared to elaborate on that. Val Kilmer's role...what's his motivation for staying on the island for all these years? Where did they get the money to buy all their (obviously) high-tech equipment? There are a lot of issues that just don't make sense. Confusion, however, isn't plot; Only plot should be plot, and this film quickly runs out of that.

The Island of Dr. Moreau could've been interesting but, past it's one-note revelation, falls very flat on it's face.

Summary: THIS MOVIE WAS TERRIBLE
Review: I don't care if you can get it for free, never see this movie. This easily makes it into the top five WORST movies I've ever seen, and it deserves NO STARS!! It was soooo bad, I even watched it again the next day, because I didn't think it was possible for the film to be as bad as I remembered it. IT WAS WORSE!!!! Please don't let my experience go to waste!! Learn from my mistake, and don't subject yourself or your loved ones to this cinematic garbage. If you want monsters, try FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. If you want a thriller, try THE GAME. If you want Val Kilmer, try THE SAINT. If you want to waste several hours of your life, torture politcal prisoners, or need an excuse to go to therapy, rent THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU.

Sorry. I know I look like a disgrace to film goers everywhere but...

What ever floats your boat :)

Summary: Burn Hollywood Burn!
Review: Hollywood gets its dirty cliched mits onto this one and absolutely tears the soul out of this brilliant novel. You'd think that Brando would no better!

Review: Good creature effects

Summary: WOW was this a STINKER!
Review: How the hell do you put Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer--two generations of master thespian--into a movie together and make it THIS bad? Well, for one, give them minimum air time and make the hero the most unattractive, dislikable spineless worm to ever blot a movie screen. Two, give lots of airtime to mutant farm animals that look so cheesy that you may think you're watching a Sid & Marty Kroft production (maybe a psychedelic episode of "Far Out Space Nuts"). Three, have the romantic interest of the unattractive worm be a house cat.

Do I really need to go on? Probably not, but I'm just getting warmed up. This whole movie feels like it was made on a dare. No, not just a dare, but a double dog dare. From the set designer to the actors themselves, it seems that every person involved in this project just lost it for a while. Marlon Brando looks like he may be having some bad reaction to eating a LOT of Twinkies, and it's made his skin go all pasty and he has a penchant for wearing kimonos (really big kimonos) which isn't a bad thing 'cause he'd be looking scary in lycra right now. Val has the only good scene in the entire movie when he does a Brando impression for about five minutes. Even the cat who loves the worm dies way too soon (so much for 9 lives)which is a shame cause she looked like a really dangerous member of Josie and the Pussycats. I can see her playing bass...

Anyway, this is beyond a doubt one of the most unentertaining, unintelligent movies I've ever had the misfortune to watch. And to think what I could have done with the 23 million or so they spent to make this moronic piece of junk...oh well.

Summary: Sick and twisted fun!
Review: While everyone goes on and on about Brando's overwrought performance they overlooked the rest of the cast. There's Val Kilmer, a good actor who is in a bad movie and seems to be loving every minute of it. Then there is the British actor David Thewlis, good actor who is in a bad movie and seems to want to duck behind a tree every time the camera is on him. This film is so overblown that it has earned a place as modern cult classic, and it deserves it. View with an open mind.

Summary: Not terrible, not great
Review: I owned a copy for a while and watched it several times. I did keep thinking it could have been so much more, but I was entertained to a certain extent. The acting was good in places. The bad animal costumes was distracting at times and I'm sure they could do the special effects so much better now. It's worth a rental.
