Summary: You should know what it is you are getting into
Review: I watched this movie as a rental and never once read the book for that I am sorry. I liked the movie I just took one star off for the exsesive gore and guts. O.K basic monster movie setup with a save the world/comming of age story thrown in. All of the actors did a great job considering the holes in the script were big enought to drive a truck through. I cann finally respect King agian he sold his rights to the movie for one dollar which showed me he didn't care what happened to it. Givenb what this movie turned out to be I couldn't blame him but maybe if he had gotten more creative control it wouldn't have been so bad. What do I mean when I say plot holes? Who was Duddits exactly?
Why did this war agienst the aliens actually start
what happens in the end, the movie just sort of trialed off.
Do the aliens simply want to destory earth or are they looking for more of a master/slave combination? I'm sure these elements were better explianed in the book so I am going to pick myself up a copy so I can rent the movie agian and better understand it. I suggest you do too. Remeber-Gory and depressing not for the faint of heart.

Summary: Is Everyone from Maine Either Psychic or Handicapped?
Review: From the former Master of the Macabre (now the Master of the Fomulaically Redundant) comes yet another tale of a group of childhood friends from Maine who share a life-altering experience with most if not all sharing psychic abilities and one who is physically challenged. This time, King throws in plenty of hackneyed childish slang and exclaimations that are like nails on the intelligence-insulting chalkboard of the audiences patience and like all the other King stories of the past 15 years it took him 900 pages to tell a story that would not even have made a descent X-Files episode. In Dreamcatcher, 4 childhood chums from Derry reunite on an annual hunting trip in the snowcovered forests of Maine. And, of course, terror soon comes a calling. This time King rips off his own ideas from Tommyknockers and Creep Show to give us crash-landed aliens who look like angry, toothed vaginas with matching pet worms and a red fungus that really doesn't seem to have any long-term effects on it's victims. The film also features 4 of the most forgetable performances in recent cimenatic memory and further proving that Jason Lee is better suited to Soap Opera supernumery than leading man. Morgan Freeman, perhaps the finest American actor of our time, must have lost a bet in accepting his roll of the bushy-eyebrowed "Boss" of the super-secret alien hunting team. Trying to force myself to believe Freeman as a sociopath is like imagining the Easter Bunny as a serial killer. And the less said about the worms and the excessive flatulence the better. I saw this film shortly after seeing "Hulk" and was sure nothing could have been as awful as the giant green stinker. I was wrong.

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: My hope for Dreamcatcher, not having read the book, was for a reasonably good scare. I didn't get it. Instead, like many reviewers, I was more interested in the relationship between the four friends and their gifts, which seemed to be similar and yet a little different. I wanted to know more about that and their connection to the mysterious impaired child that gave them their powers. Sadly, you don't get much of that either, as the movie quickly descends into the typical and in this case low grade plot advances with no scares. Watching Dreamcatcher, I was reminded of Signs. In addition to the common theme of alien invasions, both movies explore the connections between seemingly unconnected events and the idea that something said in the past might have meaning in the future. There are moments of epiphany, though these are best realized in Sings and could have been much better realized in Dreamcatcher had they been better explained. Another disappointment was that I expected some amount of Native American lore, with a title like Dreamcatcher, the winter woods, and the cover, which I (a white Midwestern suburbanite) thought looked vaguely Indian, and I expected qualities that weren't there. Honestly, I have no idea why it's called Dreamcatcher. Although it could be called Sleepsupplier. Overall, not a good movie - sort of a cross between Signs and The X-Files, and I recommend watching either before this. But the potential was there if they had just spent more time on the friends and the mysterious special child. If you watch the DVD optional or original ending, you're left with another annoying fact. The alternative ending leaves you with an entirely different interpretation of who Duddits is. Which makes me wonder if they really had a set idea of who he was as they developed the script. That's the sign of a story that's out of control. This should not be a detail that can be altered to fit whim. He is either one thing of another. Finally, there are two interesting items on the DVD: An interesting interview with Stephen King (once one of my favorites, though not for a very long time) and a hilarious outtake that I watched three times. "Dude, I said: un urm ules urld."

Summary: The Poorest 2 Hour Adaptation of a Sci Fi Novel
Review: I read this book recently while traveling - like most Stephen King novels, the book holds the reader's attention - with sufficient descriptions, narratives and character development. Unfortunately, this adaptation significantly deviates from the story's plot, is not a true representation of how the tale is told in King's novel. In fact, there are several scenes that are not representative of anything in the novel and the distortion of a solid sci fi/horror story is very disappointing. If you've read the book I'm sure that you'll find yourself numerous times wanting to turn off the movie and retain your fond memories of a good read.

Summary: GREAT ADAPTATION
Review: What do you get if you cross Stand By Me with The Thing? Why, Dreamcatcher, of course. This is one of the best adaptations of one of Stephen King's books (another being Stand By Me) that doesn't lose anything from shoehorning almost 900 pages into a 2+ hour movie. With a good story, a great cast, squirm inducing effects, 3 documentaries, 4 lifted scenes, and the original ending, this DVD is a must have for all sci-fi/SK fans. Be sure to check out the "One Worm Kills" lifted scene after watching this film for a good laugh courtesy of Jane and Wahlberg. Beware the "s" weasels.

Summary: The First Hour Was Awesome
Review: The first hour of this movie was pure genius..It was great really classic and kind of reminded me of Stephen King's It.Then after the hour was up they introduced Morgan Freeman's character who kind of made the movie boring with his talking talking talking. He is a great actor but he doesnt belong in a horror film as the semi-bad guy. The plot was excellent.It was really well hidden and i did not know it was about aliens until well into the movies.4 best friends alone in a cabin in the woods where they go every year. A lost and sick guy found in the woods with a mysterious red mark on his cheek.Animals running from deep in the woods all with the mysterious red mark somewhere on thier body.Quarentines and mind powers this movie is a good one but goes from really scary to d r a g g i n g and too much character detail on freeman's account. But by all means this is a excellent film and i was satisfied with 85 percent of it. (The 15 percent that is missing is freeman's speeches) So if you are into weird and totally gross aliens and if you are one of the people (like me) Who thinks what if this were to really happen then this is the movie for you....sweet dreams

Summary: good Stephen King adaptation
Review: First of all, to enjoy this film you should read the book. I think my opinion about this movie would be much worse if I wouldn't read the book just because I could reference things in the movie to the book.
It's very difficult to make a movie based on Stephen King books. I started to watch this movie with trepidation having seen many unsuccessful attempts to create a screen version of his books. But this movie is well done. Yes, it's missing a lot of nuances comparing to the book, but this movie at the very least follows the spirit of the book. The only thing that disappointed me is the ending (about Duddits), which if I remember correct (and I am too laizy to open the book) was different. It just makes the movie more trivial.

Review: ONE DAY DURING THEIR CHILDHOOD, A GROUP OF FRIENDS SAVE A YOUNG BOY FROM SOME BULLIES. IN RETURN, THEY GET AN AMAZING POWER THAT ALLOWS THEM TO KNOW THINGS. WHEN THEY REUNITE DECADES LATER, THEY MUST USE THIS POWER TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM A MENACE LIKE NO OTHER. I TRYED TO GIVE THIS A CHANCE, BUT THIS MOVIE IS UNDENIABLY BORING. MUCH OF THIS MOVIE IS POINTLESS. IT TRYS TO GET EXCITING TOWARD THE END, BUT IT WAS WAY TOO LATE TO SAVE THIS TIME-WASTER. THE WHOLE CAST IS WASTED, ESPECIALLY MORGAN FREEMAN, WHO PLAYS AN ALIEN HUNTER. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BORING HORROR/SCI-FI MOVIES I'VE SEEN IN YEARS. AND TO THINK THAT THIS GOD AWFUL MOVIE WAS BASED ON A STEPHEN KING NOVEL IS VERY UNBELIEVABLE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY ON THIS TRASH. BELIEVE ME, IT'S DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT.

Summary: PASSABLE BUT VERY FLAWED
Review: Ok..I never read the book so I can only guess what changes Hollywood may have made to the story. Unfortunately, King seems to be rehashing a lot of old material, not only of his but of others. Were again set in his locale of Maine, focus for all of Kings stories these days it seems. We again have a band of young friends who are now adults...similar to "It" with elements borrowed from "Stand By Me". We have a creature capable of taking over a person's body, which steals more than a little from "The Thing". Toss in the military Quarantine of a small town just like in that Michael Chrichton story...even with Morgan Freeman, and you really have a mish mash of elements. And hasn't Tom Sizemore played a military guy once too often? Still..It's not horrible...at least worth a rent.
