Rating: Summary: Duddits rules! Review: When I read "Dreamcatcher" two years ago, I wondered how it would translate to the big screen, given that half the action takes place within the mind of one of the main characters. Well, that complication is handled very deftly in this screen adaptation. There has been some necessary streamlining of the storyline and the ending is altered and dumbed down to a certain extent, but all in all it's a fun movie. However, the significance of the dreamcatcher is completely lost in the process - and the ultimate revelation regarding Duddits is a plot device inserted to tie up the avalanche of loose ends.
Rating: Summary: Dreamcatcher Review Review: I saw the film yesterday.I thought it was amazing. The film opens up with some amazing Main Titles along with the fabulous music by James Newton Howard. It then goes on to introduce the characters one by one.It seems to be a wonderful film. It then takes a spilt turn when a group of friends begin encountering a lot of supernatural events out in the woods. Then It is a race against time when an alien invcasion wants to take control of the world. Now for the judging of the film. Music was outstanding. Acting was pretty good because these talented groups of actors seemed to really become there characters. CGI was all right. The aliens looked extremly freaky but I could still tell it was CGI. Ending was kind of nonexplanatory. If you don't pay attention to the movie you won't understand it. And if you've seen the movie what is SSDD that they show althe time in the movie.I'm not a big fan of sexual content in movies and in this movie there is about a five minute scene with sexual humor which they don't mention in the rating so I was shocked to here it. Dreamcatcher is an exremly good film. If your a fan of King's books and a lover of horror movies this is the movie for you. My rating is a 4 and I think it's rated R for Gore(Plenty of it)Language( an awful lot of that) Action Violence ( which there are a few tense scenes of) and Sexual content ( which the MPAA does'nt say anything about).
Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected...Even Better Review: The Stepehn King adaptation of "Dreamcatcher" caught me completely by surprise. Since I did not read the book, I did not know that King had a little of Kubrick and Spielberg in his veins. This chilling, entertaining, haunting film is a King classic in the making. There are moments that have you on the edge of your seat...moments when your blood curdles...moments when you just need a break to gasp for air. The science fiction aspect...the gross memories of "Cujo", the backdrop of "The Shining"...even moments that reminded me of King's "Pet Sematary", made this a quagmire of gore, gross and greatness. The best acting performances are turned in by Damian Lewis as "Jonesy" and Donnie Wahlberg as "Duddits". This is a must for King fans. WARNING! There are gross moments and adult dialogue. Please don't take the kids. This film deserves an "R" rating and is borderline NC-17. And if you feel weak at the sight of blood, avoid this altogether. As for the subtle King humor...it's still there. Without it, you'd be scared out of your wits. ENJOY! I can't wait to buy it on DVD.
Rating: Summary: Huge disappointment Review: Dreamcatcher caught my eye after I saw its trailer several months back. I had been waiting for this film because it had one of my favorite actors, Damian Lewis (who was great in Band of Brothers) in it. Watching the film, there was no shortage of scares, gore, and endless violence, but these proved to be trivial compared to the awful plot. I was reminded (not in a good way) of MIB. The problem with this film is that it took itself too seriously. The crew tried to make a film that crossed over several genres, but ended with a huge mess. It started out promising, with the intruiging story of four friends who shared a telepathical gift of reading thoughts. Everything went downhill from there. You know you're watching a bad film when Morgan Freeman fails to offer any relief of the ridiculous plot (as he did in Along Came a Spider and Seven). This is a terrible film that even a great cast could not help
Rating: Summary: More like 2 1/2 Stars... Review: Considering it's pedigree of Director Lawrence Kasdan and Screenwriter William Goldman adapting Stephen King's novel of the same name, I had hign hopes for Dreamcatcher. As it stands, it's an ok way to pass a few hours. Not having read the book yet, I can't say how faithful an adaptation the film delivers. I can say that the story of four childhood friends caught up in a small-scale invasion of Earth by hostile alien forces is overlong, muddled, and sloppily made. The story relies heavily on king cliches that his fans know by heart, such as the group of angelic children who get together in the adult years to accomplish the mission they were always destined for (IT), the handicapped man who is their only hope (The Stand), the bullies (The Body, filmed as Stand By Me)....We've seen this stuff before, and better. The film takes forever to introduce the adult Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg), and ends so abruptly that the audience seems cheated of a real climax. Goldman's screenplay is so exposition-laden that it borders on ridiculous, and Kasdan's choppy Directing is juat a mess. Talented actors like Morgan Freeman and Tom Sizemore are wasted in cookie-cutter roles. The effects are decent, and the scene where Jason Lee tries to contain the Alien in the bathroom is appropriately tense, but the fart-jokes were a real tension killer, and the audience I saw the film with was laughing derisively at them. The story has some really interesting ideas (The memory warehouse, Freeman's 25 Years of alien-fighting), but they're not enough to net Dreamcatcher a recommendation. I think it would have made a GREAT mini-series, but it's just a standard film.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie! Review: This movie is one of the best movies I have seen. The characters are developed great through out the entire show. The one fault is that the ending didn't follow the book, when it should have. I feel as though the ending is one of the most suspenseful parts, as are the Jonesy parts. Overall, this movie is great, and I recommend seeing it.
Rating: Summary: A good premise gone painfully wrong Review: I saw this in theaters today expecting a half decent movie. What did I get? A typical overdone Hollywood trashfest. It started out good...but then most of the original characters that we were just getting used to got slashed up or eaten...leaving room for the military to come in yada, yada, yada. After about forty-five minutes into the movie, I just didn't care anymore. When I see a movie, I like to keep my watch in my pocket so I can get caught up in the movie, but with this I kept staring at my watch every five minutes. If you're a Jason Lee fan (MALLRATS, CHASING AMY) don't see this...let's just say he isn't around too long. If you're a Morgan Freeman fan, don't see this because his character is just too shalow and empty. And to think that Tom Sizemore could take such a step down from his previous work like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. It's painful for me to sit there and watch this movie go downhill...the first part was really good. Please note that there is a major gross-out factor here, which personally doesn't bother me but it disturbs most everyone else. Here we have some idiot talking to himself in a cheesy english accent who calls himself Mr. Grey...which eventually results in a special-effects loaded showdown at the end, which is so unbelieveably stupid I felt like running from the theater screaming. It's so bad that they have to include the FINAL FLIGHT OF THE OSIRIS short from the ANIMATRIX...which is NOTHING like THE MATRIX. If you are a big fan of trashy so called "horror movies" then you should go out and see this right now.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!! Review: I really liked this movie. I thought the acting was fine. There were some gory scenes but who cares its a horror movie. This was actually the second horror movie i evar saw on the big screen. This is a really cool movie, I'm definately considering buying this movie when it comes out. I happen to be one of the people that haven't read the book, this may be why i thought it was so good. But then again, this movie was so good I now wouldn't mind reading the book. Special effects were also very well done.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Work......... Review: I went last night to the opening night of "Dreamcatcher" and I thought this will be a great in the movie history books for sure, Though I did not read the book, I know it must be 10x better, being as the movie was AWESOME. The casting in the movie consisted of people that were perfect for the parts contained. From Morgan Freeman to Donnie Wahlberg, there are some weird and wild people throughout this movie. "Dreamcatcher" is part of the new exploration by Stephen King into science fiction/horror, as opposed to straight horror in the past. I was genuinely scared throughtout the movie, and so was everyone else in the theatre. The movie is a bit confusing to follow if you dont watch it without taking your eyes off the screen at any time. I really didn't understand Morgan Freeman's character in the movie, though I am sure that Lawrence Kasden left out some crucial information that would develop the character further for the audience. I did enjoy seeing Donnie Wahlberg as the Dudis (douglas) and didn't realize it was him as that character until long after I had left the theatre. I would recommend everyone go see this movie with a bunch of friends, since you most definitely will want to talk about this movie after it is over, over a hot plate of Beans and Cornbread (lets just hope it doesn't give you a stomach ache after seeing the way that MR. GREY gets his kind spread througout the world).
Rating: Summary: CRAZY, MAN! CRAZY! Review: Okay, so people are going to hate this movie. I saw it last night and saw several folks walking out about halfway through. After the film was done, I overheard everyone around me commenting on it being the worst movie they have ever seen. I DO NOT AGREE! This film has EVERYTHING I want in a movie. 1) Choppers vs. giant alien slugs 2) Morgan Freeman with giant eyebrows 3)A giant alien super showdown ending. 4) angry aliens! 5) Exploding booty! I know this film isn't for everyone... but if you like your movies good & bodacious & full of wicked aliens..DREAMCATCHER is for you!
