Summary: A Great Sci-Fi
Review: Star Wars made way for this movie, the special effects were not available untill then but now that it was they put out a great movie. The special effects are excellant but over all the movie is too dark mostly when the alien was shots were taken. This was the first Sci-Fi Horror movie ever created and still stands as one of the best the best of course being James Camerons Aliens. Makng a women the lead star in a horror was an excellant idea which spawned other movies to do the same. The director (i forget his name) used suspence as one of his key elements and used it well. A great movie but to dark.

Summary: One of the best science fiction movies ever
Review: As I said in the title of the review, Alien is one of the best science fiction movies ever. It tells the story of a commercial ship that is carrying mineral ore from other planets back to earth when it picks up a distress call coming from an unknown planet. The crew of seven lands on the planet and sends a search party to see where the distress call is coming from. They end up finding an alien ship and--- in fact, I don't want to tell you anymore. If I do, I'm likely to give a way a lot of the story and even the ending.The only thing else I can say without spoiling the movie is that is has lots of suspense and leads to a very suprising conclusion. It has great special effects. The alien it perfect-- ugly, scary, and deadly in its own way. The only reason I'm not giving this five stars is because the acting isn't as good as it could of been and it starts out pretty slow. Overall, this is one of the best science fiction movies ever made along with Star Wars, The Matrix, and Blade Runner. (Another film by Ridley Scott)

Summary: Alien reconsidered
Review: Since my initial review of this film about six months ago, I have seen Alien again on VHS and give it a better rating then my previous 3 stars and 7 out of 10. What makes Alien a really good movie are the characters, all of them well played. They are not supermen like Stallone or Schwarzenegger, they are ordinary working class Joes in outer space who encounter the unexpected and behave like real people. For instance, when Dallas goes into the vents with the flame thrower to flush out the Alien, he loses his nerve and panics, which is probably what most of us would do in the same situation. The soundtrack is excellent and really complements many of the scenes, like when Kane is being lowered into the egg chamber. For first time viewers of Alien, the progression of the plot, while not at the adrenalin pace of Aliens, keeps you wondering what will happen next. When the alien is first encountered, it is just a small parasite that latches on to Kane's face. After the chest bursting scene, the crew members expect to hunt down a tiny mean little creature with a cattle prod and a net. The next thing we know, it is a monster at least 8 feet tall. In retrospect, it is almost funny when Brett says of the cattle prod "It shouldn't damage him too much, unless its skin is thinner than ours, but it should give him an incentive." While I have not seen the DVD version with the deleted footage, I have seen stills of the scenes on the internet. The most famous scene is the cocooned Dallas. If there had been no sequel, it may have made sense to include it in the film, but since Aliens was made 7 years later, the inclusion of this footage in Alien would have been problematic because (1) it suggests that a Queen is not necessary for creating the eggs, and (2) Ripley would have known that the missing colonists were cocooned when the marines encountered the hive in Aliens in their search for the colonists in the processing station. The only question I have about the story in Alien is how the company knows that these creatures are on the planet and why they just don't send a special team specifically to retrieve a specimen instead of using the Nostromo crew as unwitting hosts and hence a less than certain outcome. But I won't let such a detail distract from the fact that this is a really good sc-fi/horror film.

Summary: This is how it's done!
Review: There have been a few sci-fi/horror flicks lately that have failed to live up to their potential (EVENT HORIZON, SUPERNOVA, PITCH DARK). ALIEN does it right. While the sequel (ALIENS) becomes more of a sci-fi/action movie, this film is the quintessential space horror flick. Yes, it was made in 1979 so the technology props look a little hokey, but it was still brilliantly done. The mood that's set aboard the ship is very well done. It draws the audience into the fear and insecurity of the crew. No one knows what the thing is or how to stop it. To this day, H.R. Giger's alien design is one of the scariest creations I've seen. Sigourney Weaver's performance is, as usualy, really good. For those of you who've seen the sequel, the change in her character between the two films is quite drastic, for good reason. Tom Skerritt's portrayal of the captain, Dallas, and Ian Holm's Ash, the science officer, are both sublty excellent. After having seen the second film numerous times, it was good to finally see the first one. It explained in more detail the backstory and introduction of the alien race. The action was good and the suspense had my heart pounding. A definite must see for sci-fi fans.

Summary: A little Respect, Please... Don`t compare these movies.
Review: When you "compare" Ridley scott`s Alien and Cameron`s Aliens, you should notice the age when both Pictures were realized and how Cameron took advantage of the Special Efects (more advanced only 7 years later), the creatures, the plot , the story, and etc. Ridley Scott`s Alien is a more complex, pasive, more character development, and a Superb realization from any viewing point. Cameron`s Aliens is more a top-notch action, adrenalizer, and eye candy effects. I preffer personally the original, Alien, it has a much more development, i think the plot in Cameron`s Aliens is very weak because many of the things that it shows i`ve seen it in the original. But the movie you preffer realize that both movies are completly differents, while Scott`s Alien is made to make you having nightmares, Cameron`s Aliens is to have you at the edge of the seat.

Summary: One of the Top 5 Best Films I have ever Seen
Review: Stomach-churning gore? Huh? Since it came out in 1979, I have repeatedly watched this film more than any other and it is one of the few I own on both VHS and DVD. This is perhaps Ridley Scott's best work, and was unfortuantely followed up by a string of the poorest sequels ever. It really is that good, because if you think about it, how many times has Alien been horribly duplicated? The sci fi subgenre of isolated-crew-being-picked-off-by-creature-one-by-one-until-last-one-remaining-finds-a-way-to-kill-it started right here, folks. This is the cream of the crop. Best there is. And it also features the most REALISTICALLY scary monster I have ever seen. Now, the plot. Some critics tend to find this movie overly long, especially the opening sequence. It opens with the gigantic ship Nostromo coming through space steadily and slowly. After an outside tour of the ship, the camera moves inside and starts down the dark corridors - lonely hallways that will soon be the stage for the most tremendous cat and mouse hunt ever filmed. The opening sequence is not boring or slow, it's to create an ominous atmosphere, a sense of desperate isolation and loneliness. The question, 'what do we do if something goes wrong?' is begged to be answered. Then we meet the crew - not elite scientists in gawdy uniforms and big command tags, but a group of blue collar dudes and two cool ladies. We see how they interact and who the agitators are, who the by-the-books people are, and how their personalities mingle. And by the way, the acting is stellar. I had not heard of Yaphet Kotto when I saw Alien, but I thought he was the single surprise of the show. He's a panicking agitator; a funnyman wanna be. Tom Skerrit turns in one of his best ever as the steely, no-nonsense Captain Dallas. Weaver, the heroine, as everyone knows, is nearly perfect as the by-the-books-and-regs Ellen Ripley. A heroine who's character would later be cheapened and destroyed in every way by the odious sequels. The rest of the cast is great too. Ian Holm as the "machine" was absolutely chilling, and his confrontation with Ripley and the 'talking head scene' were astoundingly brilliant. The "how do you kill it?"/ "You can't kill it" conversation chilled me to the bone. Listen to his accented, mechanical voice and watch his eye/facial movements. Lastly, camera shots and cinemetography were stellar. You only get one full shot of the alien that lasts only a few seconds near the end. But the glimpses of it throughout are absolutely hair raising. The scene where it gets Skerrit in the ducts made everyone jump about two feet off their seats! And then Yaphet Kotto's line, "No blood. No Dallas. No Nothin'," is one of my favorites in film history. Another good one is Weaver's, "Will ya listen to me, Parker? SHUT UP!" If you've missed this timeless gem and sci fi trend setter, you owe it to yourself to get the DVD and watch it. And then watch it again to get all the little things you may have missed. Alien is an intelligently suspenseful thriller.

Review: An Extemely well done sci fi entry directed by Ridley Scott. Unlike its next two retreads "Aliens" and " Alien 3" This is not an action movie ..its a real sci fi suspense film that is well acted and has great moments of shock that last but a few moments on screen. One by one the crew of the Nostromo are wiped out by the ugly Alien. As the film goes along it gets even more claustrophobic and desperate. The Inspiartion is from an old B Sci Fi of the 50,s " It , the Terror From Beyond Space" Its not often a really good sci fi film comes along..this was it for 1979...we are still waiting another one to at least equal 21 years later.

Review: This movie starts off kinda slow but doesn't every sci-fi thriller. But don't get carried away this fast b/c Ridley Scott adds all the suspense u can possibly want throughout the rest of this movie. The reason why this movie is so great is b/c the actors made they alien seem real and the special effects were incredible. No one had seen anything like this until this movie came out and everyone was surprised and amazed at how the alien looked. The conflit, human vs. creature is another thing that brought viewers to their feet when they watched this movie b/c alot of those types of movies r successful. It's almost been proven. Think about it, Independence Day & Jaws r just two of them i can think of off the top of my head. Alien is one of my fav. movies of all-time and always will be. Go get it.

Review: No matter what Lenard Malton or anyone else says, this film is a classic. Ridly Scott is an excellent director and Alien is smart, scarry, and claustrophobic. People often try to write this movie off as just another horror flick but it's not. It's alot deeper than most people realize and without giving anything away, the alien isn't the true villian. If you want something that is really going to put you on edge, this is it.
