Summary: Numbers, Patterns, and Chaos
Review: "Pi" is an outstanding and complex thriller with brains and structure. For such a low budget film, this great movie shows you that greatness doesn't have to only come out of big budget films with well-known stars. It is a film that gets in your head and stays with you long after it is over.

This dark and quiet thriller is about Maximilian Cohen, a brilliant mathematician who believes that everything in life revolves around patterns and numbers. For years he has been trying to find this pattern that could unlock everything we see and know. He starts with the stock market, the ultimate system of ordered chaos. The deeper he digs, the more insane he becomes. And the more he finds out, the more danger he is thrown into. The pattern itself proves to be just as deadly as the people who are after him. The twists and complexity will leave you in awe.

While this movie may be confusing at times, it still does its job and keeps us intrigued throughout the duration of the film. The acting and writing is really remarkable. Sean Gullette is very convincing as Max. I don't think there is anybody else who could've gotten the job done. Everybody else was also great in it as well. The film is also a debut from Darren Aronofsky; and a powerful one at that. Very well written and directed. Some of the camera techniques are really great and allow you to get inside of the main character's head.

The DVD is great as well. The picture quality is really good, considering it is a black and white film. (The black and white actually enriches the film more. It would've been less effective in color.) The sound is really great too. Some of the extras are 2 commentary tracks, a behind the scenes montage, lost scenes, trailers, a music video, and more. Very satisfactory.

"Pi" is a movie that requires you to think throughout the film and after. It's a film that will mostly appeal to those who like quiet and unique thrillers. There's no non-stop shootings or explosions in this movie. And it's not a film that everyone is going to like. However, seeing that the movie is only 85 minutes long, why not give it a shot? If you want something new and different, "Pi" is the film for you. A very outstanding picture.

Summary: I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!
Review: This has become one of my favorite films of all time. It is so good. Yes it is in black and white, and it's a bit confusing, but I loved it. Not for everyone though. Especially those who like films such as The New Guy or Scary Movie. I loved this film and I hope you do to.

Summary: Where is the soundtrack for Pi?
Review: An outstanding film but when will someone think of releasing the soundtrack? I cant find it anywhere but maybe you will find it for me Amazon.com!

I have just bought the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack and I'm in awe! I NEVER usually buy soundtracks, and the only other one i own is Judgement Night with many collaborations between Grunge and Hip-hop bands, including Sonic Youth & Cypress Hill. Highly recommended!

Please release the Pi soundtrack!!!!

Summary: B/W Math Trauma
Review: Notes for the bewildered:
1. Pi is NOT about the number pi (I'm not sure some of these reviewers even watched the film);
2. Accusations that the film is more about numerology than mathematics miss the point by a mile, i.e. there is a vital scene in which the main character is plainly warned that his obsessive pattern search will lead him into the non-science desert of numerology;
3. Max's search for the 216 digit name of God is not a simple descent into mystical hooey: his investigation of the Torah, like the stock market, is a search for an underlying pattern in a chaotic system. He is intrigued by the possibility of arriving at a fundamental insight into the universe by this discovery. Ultimately his fallacy is not the assumption that this pattern exists, but his presumption that his brain could encompass the entire world.

Enough philosophy - the black and white photography is stark and unsettling, the minor characters are memorable (Lenny and Sol are standouts), the soundtrack is refreshingly modern and engaging without being obtrusive, and the whole is laden with a creepy atmosphere of cold cerebral obsession (this quality probably being the main reason people either love or hate this film).

Reasons for some dissatisfaction might include the hallucination sequences being only vaguely delineated from the rest of the narrative, which causes some confusion, and the discontinuity of the plot, in which story and character are artfully sketched rather than fully filled out.

The ending is also problematic, but it is unsatisfying only in as much as total comprehension of the universe by the human mind is an impossible dream. It is this intellectual tantalization which is, I believe, the point of the film.

Summary: Gripping and interesting.
Review: This is not a movie for everyone. It must be understood but nevertheless it makes you wonder if such a thing would really be possible than life would be explained with mathematical precision. Unfortunately Because of quantum mechanics's uncertainty principle it is mostly sure not possible to come up with a predictability formula as this movie shows. Overall: VERY GOOD.

Summary: Great film
Review: This is a great movie, from a great director. Darren Aronofsky has been my favorite director since i first saw this movie when it came out. Requiem for a Dream showed even more promise. I was looking forward to The Fountain, too bad Brad Pitt is a sell out punk ... .

Summary: Golden
Review: Pi was what a film should be...inspiring. Pi is a cinematic blend of philosophy, mathematics, and humanity, that leaves its viewer questioning everything. I read several reviews that said things like, 'A man searching for Pi, how boring.' or, '...too repetitive.' Obviously these reviewers missed the point. Pi is not simply about a man looking for a number, it is about a man looking for the key to the universe. I have always been interested in chaos theory, and when I read the full title of this film (Pi: Faith In Chaos) I was eager to watch it. It did not disappoint. If you like dark, esoteric, and philosophical films, Pi is for you.

Summary: This movie [stinks]!!!
Review: This movie is the stupidest movie that I have ever see. A hour+ of a guy that goes searching for pi. How stupid can you get. I actually felt myself become stupider for sitting there watching it. This movie is easily the most worthless movie ever made. I would rather have my eyes plucked out of my head by a chicken than watch this movie again. I only wish that I could take away stars from this movie instead of giving it one.

Summary: Missing subtitles
Review: I enjoy watching this DVD movie in wide-screen.
I saw also the DVD region 4 in full-screen, but region 1 has more features and is my favorite.

I think that could be good for all the people if all DVD comes with many sub-titles as possible. This DVD does not has English subtitles ( Spanish neither) but the sound is the original.

If you don't know English very well, this DVD is not for you. I need to watch 4 times the movie. I enjoy it, but was a little hard to understand all the dialogs.

Saludos!
