Summary: please watch and appreciate this films beauty
Review: im a self-educated 15 year old that appreciated the complex esoteric message i've recieved from this film. the best acting and directing i've ever seen. the films contains an abundence of philosophy, mathmatical enigmas, and accurate anxiety attacks. please watch and enjoy this film and try not to analyze it too much, instead try to feel it.

note: best when on wacky tobaccey to help induce connection.

thank you for the best film i've ever seen darren aronofsky and sean gullette. you are truly masters as what you do.

Summary: EERIE, INTELLIGENT, MYSTERIOUS, INTERESTING, AMAZING.......
Review: First of all, this movie is definitely not for everyone. If you are somebody who watches movies strictly for entertainment and who does not enjoy deep, thought-provoking films, then you will definitely not enjoy this one. It is shot entirely in black and white and will most likely go over many people's heads. Some of it even went over mine!! It is a very dark movie, complete with chilling and haunting music to match. But in my opinion, it is extremely innovative and displays Aronofsky's incredible talent. PI seems to lure you in and does not let go even after the credits have rolled. I despise math and was never very good at it. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Summary: One of the best movies
Review: This movie is so great, b/c it's so simple (no distracting special effects) but also very stylish and thought provoking. The soundtrack is great. The decision to shoot it in high contrast black and white was an excellent one.

Summary: How awful can a movie be?
Review: Plain and simple, this movie is really bad. I don't know how people can praise such a piece of garbage. The movie is awful and the ending is worse. Requiem for a Dream is one of my favorite movies, and I don't know how Darren Aronofsky can be capable of such a bad movie.

Summary: Wow!
Review: I don't know if I like this movie or not...some parts were really good and others kinda of annoying. But then the parts that annoyed me...well, were supposed to.

I rented this because I thought "Requiem For A Dream" was a great movie. I don't think Pi was as good, but I can't wait for this guy to make more movies. :)

Summary: An original, intersting film
Review: In "Pi" one encounters a film that is undeniably original. Shot in jarring black and white, and using a variety of bizarre camera angles to convey the first person, it breaks new ground in the ways that a general audience movie can be shot. More intriguing, however, is the plot.

Simply put, this movie follows a mathematician as he peruses an underlying pattern in the stock market., and later the universe. Along the way he deals with an undefined neurological disorder, as well as Wall Street thugs and Jewish mystics. As he comes closer and closer to this pattern, which becomes a representation of some sort of organizing force (God) in creation, he slips further and further into paranoia. In the end, the director seems to be questioning whether the pursuit of the divine is ultimately self defeating. Could it be that searching for the pattern in all things is a refutation of the beauty of creation?

Most of the reviews of this movie seem to have heaped it with either praise or scorn. The reality, I think, lies somewhere in between. On the one hand, this is an intriguingly shot, genuinely original film. On the other it is somewhat shallow; the viewer is left to draw conclusions that might have been better served by being explicitly spelled out. I happen to like it when books or movies do this, but that's more of a personality trait than the hallmark of a great artist. In the end, "Pi" is a pleasant diversion from many of the mundane films being made today, and it will certainly leave you thinking. On a related note, if you enjoyed this film, or are intrigued by it's premise, you might enjoy the novel "Damascus Gate" by Robert Stone, as it explores similar issues.

Summary: Someone stab me with a dull pencil...this movie was awful!!!
Review: I will first concede that I am not generally into "art-house" movies, which could explain (at least partially) why I HATED this film. However, considering there are plenty of art-house films I really do like (e.g. The House of Yes), my dislike for Pi must stem from something deeper, like the fact it's supposed to be a math thriller. I can't believe this movie's gotten such good reviews. I simply don't get it. And although I recognize that scathingly bad reviews aren't generally recognized as particularly helpful, I'm willing to take that risk if it will save even ONE person from having to watching this awful, awful movie.

It's about some guy who's a math genious and there's all these weird issues going on inside his head and strange religious people are supposedly after him because of his freaky genious mind. All very disturbing. Ironically, also manages to be all very boring. I just couldn't get into the idea of a "math thriller." Think about that for a while. Math. Thriller. Those two words simply don't belong in the same sentence. Really. I'd stab myself repeatedly with a dull pencil before I'd watch this movie again, it was THAT bad.

I guess if you want an art-house "let's think about how deep this movie can be" kind of experience, Pi might be worth the endeavor. It is, after all, pretentious enough to make it appear deep. At the end of the day, though, it still ends up being nothing more than a really awful movie. Why? Because it simply makes no sense. I'm not retarded, I understand the premise, and actually find the mathematical aspect of it fascinating. Unfortunately, I also find the whole thing to be incredibly poorly executed. I find whole parts of the movie completely irrelevant to its central theme, and things that made no sense were put in there as if to accentuate the "profound."

Sooo....if incoherence registers with you as "deep," then this movie's for you. If, however, you're looking for a movie that actually makes some sense, then please, please, PLEASE: skip it and save yourself the agony of stabbing yourself with a dull pencil to numb the pain of watching something so bad.

Summary: The Shallow Depths
Review: The first half of this film is suggestive and intriguing. The second half becomes concrete and, while not exactly dull, let's say that the tremendous possibilities of the opening collapse to a single and rather prosaic storyline. By doing some, albeit limited, research into mathematics, Aronofsky succeeds in evoking the mystery in maths' connection with the ordinary world - however, a little more research or imaginative effort might have powered the film to still greater heights. This adds up to a shallow take on a profound subject, and it trades on the subject's genuine profundity in order to gives itself airs. Still many of the techniques rehearsed here see fruition in 'Requiem for a Dream', the latter being a much more satisfying piece of work.

Summary: If you like "Pi"...
Review: This movie is NOT for everyone. Within the first few minutes most people can figure out whether or not this is their type of film. It is very artistic, painful, frustrating, and beautiful. I love this movie, and it is a wonderful precursor to "Requiem for a Dream". Like requiem, "Pi" is a relentless assault on the viewer. Not for conventional "Mission to Mars" or "Titanic" movie fans.

If you really liked "Pi" (gave it 4-5 stars), I HIGHLY recommend the 1989 Japanese film "Tetsuo: The Iron Man". It has much of the same feel as "Pi"...only even more insane!

Summary: Excellent Film
Review: After viewing this film, I was really impressed with how good it was. It is not the conventional film however, it has more of an artsy feeling to it. While it is suspenseful, those who do not like art-like movies or black&white films should keep away (though you may turn out loving it). I really loved this film and think it should be added to the List of Great Suspenses. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SO CHECK IT OUT!!! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
