Summary: Live Long, And Prosper.......
Review: I have to admit it. I AM A TREKKIE! There. I said it. Having said that, I was extremely anxious about the release of the documentary, Trekkies. I thought it was just going to be one continuous insult of those of us who are dedicated Star Trek fans. To borrow a phrase from another reviewer, Boy, was I wrong.I am one of those Trekkies who will wear his uniform anywhere(I've worn it to work, conventions, and to the premiere of Star Trek: First Contact), and so, hearing of the WhiteWater juror didn't bug me at all. I mean, if she was a soldier or a policewoman, nobody would have said a word. I will admit, I found the guy who said he wanted to have his ears surgically altered to Vulcan points a little far-out, but, it's all in good fun. Hey, Trekkies like us are no different than the people who went nuts over those four guys from Liverpool, back in the 1960's. The movie does a wonderful job of demonstrating that, yes, although Trekkies do some weird things(like wearing Starfleet uniforms in public), we're generally just like everybody else. We just have a hobby, and take it to the extreme. I would definitely recommend this movie, not only to so-called "normal" fans, but to anyone interested in seeing how this series has impacted not only television, but the American psyche as a whole. It's great fun, and, you might actually learn something.

Summary: From a non-fan's point of view...
Review: Well, I have not been a fan this monumentus series, I have no idea why, but at the time I am not. So I went into this with, "expectaions", and well, they where met. It made me appreciate the whole Star Trek fan scene, because like everyone, I enjoy things like the Trek fans do. However, they did make the fans seem a little, not to be rude, dorky or easily impressionable. The dedication that these fans have is out of this world. It is like myself and wrestling or other television. This documentary is indepth, with collectors showcasing their prize action figures, drawings, comics and such about Star Trek, how a dentist changed his office into a Star Trek galaxy, how their are hundreds, probably thousands who can speak the specific Trek languges. Trekkie or Trekker you may ask? Well, why do you not just call yourself a fan? A good choice to add to your collection, I would Suggest you see "Free Enterprise", that is a better flick, and William Shattner curses. Maybe I will see some of the episodes after seeing this... Summary: An interesting look at Star Trek fanatics
Review: I like watching Star Trek - The Original Series, so I knew I had to watch "Trekkies." It's an interesting movie to watch. Denise Crosby interviews a bunch of people who are major Star Trek fans and they're called Trekkies. It also features interviews with many of the most popular people from all the Star Trek series from the original series to Voyager. You'll recognize a lot of the people such as William Shatner, James Doohan, Leonard Nimoy, and many others. Parts of the movie are real interesting such as taking a trip to a dentist's office and seeing the whole inside of the building decorated with memorabilia from Star Trek and all the employees wearing a Star Trek uniform. Another good part of the movie is when Leonard Nimoy (Spock from the original series) tells a story about someone tapping him on the shoulder and saying "Hey I know you, you got your ears changed." He turned around and saw that it was John Wayne. This movie features not only in depth interviews with fans and stars from Star Trek, but it also shows footage from conventions and towns that are dedicated to Star Trek. My only complaint about "Trekkies" is that some of the interviews of hardcore Star Trek fans can get a little repetitive, but it is an interesting movie to watch and I recommend anybody who likes any of the Star Trek series to watch "Trekkies." If you're a Trekky yourself and you go around wearing a uniform or decorate your home with Star Trek stuff, etc. I'd recommend buying the movie. Myself, I'm just a casual Star Trek watcher and I wouldn't ever wear a uniform or anything like that, so I guess I'm not a Trekkie.

Summary: The lower 1%
Review: By lower 1% I refer to the types of fans this video depicts. I personally have been a fan for about 25 years and none of my acquaintences are as geeky and nerdy as those portrayed here. If you are a fan and want to see what the other half does this is and interesting culture study. But for a non-fan you may find the fans portrayed here a little TOO weird. If you want a really clever comedic "homage" to Trek try Free Enterprise. It's more of a movie than a documentary like Trekkies and it's loaded with references only true fans will get.

Summary: Amusing for Star Trek Fans
Review: I saw this movie in the theater. You must be either a Star Trek fan, or someone that can appreciate those who have enthusiasm towards what they believe in. The movie does a great job at not poking fun at any of the characters, and some are extreme. My favorite moment was when the Dentist and his Wife were being interviewed, and he stated he wanted to have plastic surgery to have Vulcan ears. This was the first time his wife heard this, and she was not amused. While the movie isn't high on budget it is high on compassion for Star Trek fans, and their expression of their love of the show. Many of us are closet Star Trek fans, who do not realize our dept of the love of the show. You realize this when you find yourself commenting on this movie, and the people, when you notice a costume is almost right. At this moment you realize you have been swept away just as the people portrayed in this movie.

Summary: Star Trek, the best science fiction ever created.?
Review: Well that can be debated, but as this film on the Trek fans shows, it certainly has reached the largest core of fans ever. Many like the stories and the characters. Of course not every Star Trek show or movie has been great, but much of it has been very good. It is certainly better and has more quality to it then most other science fiction does not, and I don't think it's over yet. I think the best Star Trek stories (TV shows and movies) are yet to come. Live Long and Prosper.

Summary: The Most Patheic Film ever Made.
Review: If you ever wanted prove that Trekkies don't have a life. This proves it. Belive me. I like Star Trek also, but not to the point where I wear the pointed ears, go to endless conventions, or turn my whole life into some sort of revolution in thinking that goes around Star Trek. That's not how one should live his or her life, and these fans are really disturbing because they do just that. After leaving Star Trek, this is what Ms. Crosby is doing with her career, narrating [inexpensive] infomericals?!

Summary: If you give someone enough rope...
Review: This documentary was really well done! Having seen the film in the theater, I remember well how the audience simply howled at the comedy of watching people reveal their own quirks. Watching it at home again was a real treat. I was most impressed, however, by how the film never attempted to judge the interviewees. I felt that the film was done in a way that it exposed the absurdities of human behavior while not succumbing to the temptation to put people down. As Alfred Hitchcock said, "Drama is just life with the boring parts cut out." This film allowed people to speak for themselves, but I truly think that the best parts were masterfully woven into a superbly cohesive whole. And if you like this movie, you've got to see "Roger and Me," and "Galaxy Quest." "Ed Wood" with Johnny Depp is a classic in the same genre.

Summary: What a hoot.
Review: I find it very amusing that so many reviews of this film are written by Star Trek fans, many of whom were disappointed in the film for making fun of the extreme fanatics protrayed. Obviously, these people have missed the point - who would make a documentary about perfectly average people who happen to watch a television show or movie on occasion? This film shows the best of the best - those people whose lives are so involved in this sad little phenomenon that they've lost touch with reality. The result is simply hilarious. Order a pizza and watch this one with a room full of friends. It's one you'll have to pause to keep from missing anything over the laughter.

Summary: Are You A Trekkie?
Review: You might want to watch this documentary before you answer that question. Before I saw this film, I classified myself as a Trekkie. Boy was I wrong. The Trekkies in this movie are extreme. I don't even own one uniform, let alone two or three, and I've never been to a convention. This did not prevent me from enjoying this film. Denise Crosby, who "stars" in the documentary, visits several Trekkies, mostly at a convention in Pasadena, CA, and talks with many of the cast members of the various shows. The interviews with Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley about the first Trek conventions are great fun, as are the interviews with later cast members about the endurance of the franchise's popularity. The best interview is perhaps the one with Brent Spiner, who makes some rather amusing comments about fan artwork. Never does the film present the fans as objects of ridicule; rather, it is an attempt to understand why someone would turn his dental practice in to a "Star Trek"-themed practice, or why someone would wear his/her uniform to work or the grocery store. At the same time, the film is incredibly funny. One of my favorite scenes involved Denise Crosby following some Klingons into a fast-food establishment. If you are a Trekkie, Trekker, or just a fan of Star Trek in its various incarnations, you must see this film!
