Summary: Hilarious.
Review: This movie isn't just funny it's hilarious for the following reasons; a single day keeps repeating itself. Murray plays an ignorant jerk, the things this ignorant jerk does with his time, how many times he tries to get Rita to fall in love with him, how many times he's slapped by Rita, the sarcasm, and of course the entire drunk driving scene.
"Groundhog Day" is about a man named Phil who is a weatherman and who is, well, an ignorant jerk. Phil must go to a small town with a woman named Rita a producer and a cameraman to report whether or not Phil the famous groundhog sees his shadow. While in this small town Phil develops somewhat of a crush on the producer Rita but nothing really comes of it because he's a jerk. Fate steps in and makes the day repeat over and over until Phil finally wins Rita's heart. In this process an armored car gets ripped off, there's this whole ordeal where Phil plays chicken with a train and of course Phil's repeated suicide attempts. Eventually Phil takes his time to his advantage and learns how to play the piano, saves a life, learns to be kind and as I've said before wins Rita over.
This movie is great and I recommend it to everyone who loves romantic comedies. Well, it's sort of romantic... I think.

Summary: A great movie to watch over...& over
Review: With the actual Groundhog Day right around the corner, funny how the sales rank is high, haha, just an observation. This is another favorite movie of mine that I can watch over & over & enjoy a good laugh. Phil Connors is a self-centered character, & you find plenty of reasons to not like him. His day just repeats itself...over...& over, which I thought was an interesting movie concept. It's as if a higher power intentionally put this spell on him to try & make him a better person, cuz that was the only way it would happen. Rita, his sweet, unselfish co-worker, is totally unlike him, & he's quickly drawn to her.

It's hilarious watching him rehearse different things every day, trying to find out every little thing about Rita that he can. How we wish we could repeat some things in life...school, job interviews & jobs, meeting the opposite sex, etc.!! You also start feeling sorry for him when he starts feeling dispair, & desperately wants a break from his curse. "This is pitiful....a 1000 people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat." He even attempts suicide, but he's still stuck!! After this point, the movie starts focusing more on his feelings for Rita, & how he's determined to win her by bettering himself,

He becomes inspired to play piano after hearing Mozart, remembering Rita mentioning that her dream guy has to play an instrument. Learning such an instrument from scratch requires so much patience & practice over a long period time. But we have to also constantly remember that trying to do anything well, whether it's self-help or just perfecting skills, requires regular & daily practice. Being a musician myself, I would definitely use that opportunity to do such things!! Just one of many examples that makes you wonder what would you do, & what would people you know do in his place?

I tried doing the same thing another reviewer mentioned, trying to count the # of actual days he's stuck in, but it's hard!! You become so wrapped up in it, you don't wanna even worry about it. The end left me believing that though we wish we had all the time in the world, we have to do best with the time we have (oh, they do mention that on Lord of the Rings, don't they?). We also have to realize we don't have endless chances to get things right. It reminded me of a Christmas Carol, how the character changes at the end. They couldn't have picked a better character than Bill Murray , & even if you're not really a fan of him, you can appreciate his character transformation (I personally like him, but I know some people don't). The other characters are also enjoyable & seem like regular real people. Definitely worth picking up & watching again & again on any cloudy afternoon!

Summary: Enjoyable romantic comedy.
Review: The movie is about a tv reporter(B.Murray) who lives literally the same day over and over again. Finally at the end, he finds his way out of it(with the love of A.MacDowell). I definitely suggest everyone to see it, it is an enjoyable movie.

Summary: Surprised it was that good
Review: I remember when I saw the previews for this movie, I was somewhat interested in the concept. A man repeating the same day over and over again, all the variations that he could accomplish, and how he would react to his predicament.

I wasn't really into comedies, at the time, so I waited for it to get to the "dollar movies." It's a little misleading to label this movie a comedy though, as it has many dramatic themes. It's like life, it has a little bit of everything. Well anyway, I remember when I decided to go see it. I was in college at the time, and I was bored with studying, so I decided to take a break and go see the movie. I remember sitting in the theater and being totally, pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the movie. I mean the comedy was FUNNY, the theme was very intriguing(I never would have thought of time travel as a way of getting women, ha ha!)and it made a "Christmas Carol" type of point. I mean one guy, who really doesn't have any regard, compassion, or courtesy for other people, being thrown into a day and place that he despises repeatedly, and he, eventually, learns a valuable lesson from his dilemma.

This picture embodies everything I would ever want from a film. I laughed. I cried. I cheered. I am not usually this gung-ho about pictures, but this one is very special. I have to say out of all the movies that I have ever seen, I'm thirty one and I have seen a LOT of pictures, this one is tied for number one.(With Masada, another awesome, first rate film. If your interested, get the full mini-series version. Don't waste your time with the cut, two-hour version. Masada is also sold by Amazon. In fact, Amazon is the only place I could find to buy it.) Harold Ramis, and the writers of Groundhog Day, are obviously very talented people.

To summarize, do yourself a favor and watch Groundhog Day. Better yet buy it, and YOU will be stuck in Groundhog Day, as you will watch the movie over, and over, and over again.

Summary: You can see it again, and again, and again, and again...
Review: [....]

This is Bill Murray's best movie (along with Ghostbusters & Mad Dog and Glory) and also the best movie of Harold Ramis (as a director).

When I saw the movie for the first time, it was like a breath of fresh air among all other Hollywood releases at the time (boring, stupid, predictable). Why? Because you knew how it's gonna end (obviously, it's a romantic comedy), but you didn't know WHEN! and believe me, you don't want it to end...

Worth noticing is also the fact that movie sparks genuine feelings for the characters (even sporadic ones), otherwise absent from other Harold Ramis/Ivan Reitman/Bill Murray/Dan Aykroyd movies. The quartet (working together or not) mostly have interesting ideas how to amuse people and make them laugh, but they often fail to make us care for the characters involved.

For those of you from other planets, the plot involves a conceited weatherman (Murray) stuck in time on the worst day of his life. So he has to live the day again and again (see the title) until... Well, you know. Not even death can stop his misery. Andie MacDowell is lovely as a producer/love interest and all other performances are funny beyond words. The funniest, of course, is Bill Murray himself.

This is much better than "Multiplicity" (Harold Ramis directed this after Groundhog Day with Andie reprising her role, and Michael Keaton replacing Murray), and funnier than "12:01" (a TV movie with a similar premise, also very good - check it out!).

I hope there will be many deleted scenes or outtakes in the special features part of DVD, because I think they had so much fun making this movie...

Summary: Contains one of the Recent Cinema's Best Scenes
Review: While most viewers try to catch the number of times the scenes repeat themselves, this modern (within the last ten years) movie contains one of the classic scenes that can actually enrich ones life.

In "Groundhog Day," weatherman Phil Conners, played by actor bill Murry, is locked in a time warp in which he seems destined to relive Groundhog Day, February 2nd, over and over again. The classic scene occurs after midnight, but before the bewitching hour of 6:00 A.M. when the day begins repeating itself, on a day when Phil has succeeded in convincing Rita, his producer, played by Annie MacDowell, that he is truly reliving this one day, again and again. As they lay platonically in bed, with Rita falling asleep, he begins to tell her what he should have told her the first time that he saw her, instead of being so self-absorbed that he couldn't see what she really was like ("I think what I wanted to say was I think you are the kindest, sweetest, prettiest person I've ever met in my life. The first time I saw you, something happened to me that I never told you, but I wanted to hold you as hard as I could. I don't deserve someone like you, but if I ever could, I'm sure I would love you for the rest of my life").

He awakes the next morning, without Rita by his side, but with a a new persona. Perhaps this change is because he was spurred on by Rita who told him the evening before, "Maybe it's not a curse (referring to his reliving this day over and over), it's just how you look at it." Suddenly, forgotten are the days when Phil used his endless life to temp fate by living his life through the seven deadly sins, as he finds the joy of living each day to its fullest, learning to expand his purpose in life through helping others. Finally, he lives a Groundhog Day in which he becomes something of a local hero to many in the community, and Rita, realizing his inner beauty, buys his services at the bachelor charity auction. That night, they platonically fall asleep with the true realization of each other's stellar inner qualities, and instead of waking-up on February 2nd, again, it's February 3rd. Together they begin to plan a life together with the realization that there is something more after today.

Phil's final characterization of life can be depicted in the words he uses to describe the Groundhog Festival near the end of the movie. "When Checkov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and beraf of hope, but we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But, standinghere among the people of Punxsutawney, and basking here in the warmth of their hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter."

Summary: Most Enjoyable Romantic Comedy in Years!
Review: This film entertains throughout, there are many heartfelt laughs. At times the viewer gets to think and feel empathy for the star, then the beautiful fairy tale ending drives it home. -- When an overly self-confident know-it-all (played by Bill Murray) visits a small PA town to observe the annual "Ground Hog Day Festivities" with his TV crew, something extraordinary happens: For reasons unexplained Murray lives the same day over and over again, probably a hundred times or more! Eventually accepting the fact that no matter what happens during the day, Murray always awakes the next morning, he makes the best of his sad situation by learning how to perfect everything he does during this day, by improving his performance each time he re-lives it. In the end the obnoxious character we saw in the beginning has cleaned up his act, having become a lovable, charming human being. -- The premise of this film is fresh, if a bit far fetched, but with a little suspense of disbelief, you will truly enjoy this bitter sweet comedy drama! This is a solid 5-star film!*****

Summary: Wait for special edition!!!
Review: Brought this version thinking that it was soon to be released special edition. It was on the coming soon list. Turned out to be a reissue with RCE. Doh!!!

Excellent film, lousy DVD.

Summary: Like the movie you can watch this time and time again!
Review: Groundhog Day is one of those movies that I just don't get tired of watching. Despite how good movies like Casablanca or Godfather or 2001 are, you can only watch those at certain times and only so often. However, with Groundhog Day I could watch it practically every day and not get tired. This is amazing since a lot of the movie is repeated as a result of the plot line. It is interesting to see how Bill Murray gets in control of his life and destiny by living the same day over and over again. If I was stuck in the same day over and over again, I would want to have this movie to watch!

Summary: Too Silly To Be 5 Stars
Review: A jaded, self-absorbed TV weatherman finds himself endlessly reliving the same 24 hours in this life-affirming, somewhat skewed fantasy. A sure-fire hit for romantic-comedy lovers.
