Summary: Ghostbusters-Great Movie and DVD, But Something Is Missing!
Review: After 20 years GHOSTBUSTERS holds up even with the pre-digital special effects, etc. The film works because it is just plain funny, inventive (the E.P.A. are the baddies in the film...How inventive is that?!), and original. Also it has a great cast (with Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, and Annie Potts) and great New York City locations (even though the Ghostbusters headquarters, the abandoned fire house, is actually a Las Angeles location). The DVD has all the "bells and whistles", but there is something missing and that the producers of the disc did not include the music video for Ray Parker's theme song. This was a top-ten video back in 1984 and was played constantly on MTV and all other music video shows way back when. It was just as funny as the film as all four Ghostbusters (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson) appear with singer Ray Parker Jr. near the end of the video dancing down Times Square. If the music video had been included, the DVD would have been complete. Otherwise the film itself is a classic that has stood the test of time.

Review: 20 years after Ghostbusters original release, symmetrical book-stacking and the stay-puft marshmallow man are still fabulous comedy chaos. Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray head off the Ghostbusters cast as paranormal scientist's on their own for the first time who decide to do what other than go into business catching and imprisoning ghosts. (Credit for screenwriting goes to Akroyd and Ramis.) Joined by Sigourney Weaver, the would be girl friend of the uncouth Dr. Venkman (Murray) who, incidentally, becomes possessed by a demigod, and Rick Moranis, this all-star cast provides classic one liners that are still hilarious after two decades.

Not only downright funny, this movie was credited with Academy Award nominations for Best Song and Best Visual Effects, and it still gives a great show. This is a comedy classic that will always remind us who we're going to call.

Summary: 'That's the bedroom, but nothing ever happened in there'
Review: This has to be THE film of the 80s! And I only watched it for the first time a couple of days ago. People seem to disbelieve that I haven't seen this movie before, and thought maybe I'd seen it, but just didn't remember it. I definitely would have remembered seeing this! I did know some stuff about it, and I've seen the green ghost about, and I always thought the big white guy was the Michelin Man for some reason? Apart from the fact it was so funny and there are some great actors: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Ernie Hudson.

There are some terrific looking extras on this, will certainly keep me busy one day when I go to look through them all.

Obviously, the ghosts and whatever aren't up to the standards of today, but that makes it all the more better. You can tell there's guys dressed up in suits, but it makes you laugh all the more. Nothing is disguised here.

There are some absolutely brilliant quotes too! Some of my faves include:

Winston Zeddemore: Ray. When someone asks you if you're a god, you say yes.
Dr. Peter Venkman: No, we're exterminators. Someone saw a cockroach up on twelve.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Mother pus bucket.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Somebody blows their nose and you want to keep it?
Dr. Raymond Stantz: Where do these stairs go?
Dr. Peter Venkman: They go up.
Dana Barrett: That's the bedroom, but nothing ever happened in there.
Dr. Peter Venkman: What a crime.
Dana Barrett: Do you want this body?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Is this a trick question?
Dr. Raymond Stantz: He's an ugly little spud, isn't he?
Dr. Peter Venkman: [quickly] I think he can hear you, Ray.

If you read some of those quotes carefully, you'll probably figure out who my fave Ghostbuster was - Bill Murray was pure genius in this and he cracked me up!

Of course, everyone knows the Ghostbusters theme tune. Frankly I love it! I love that song! I've even seen it done in concert by Steps a couple of years ago, and they did a fantastic version of it!

This is a terrific film. I beg you, if you haven't seen it, go and see it. You will not regret it.

Summary: Hilarious then, hilarious today!
Review: This is what a comedy movie should be about! Four "shysters" that pawn themselves off as "experienced" experts in battling psychic phenomena, defeat a "real" ghost through hair-brained luck and nuclear technology. They set up an agency that makes house calls to rid people of any supernatural baddies that may be lurking in their homes.

Eventually, the evil starts to build in the top of an old creepy looking apartment building.

Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, and Dan Ackroyd are hilarious! Bill Murray is passable and Sigourney Weaver is hot!

Summary: Who ya' gonna call?
Review: Fantastic DVD with lots, and lots of extra's. The film has been amazingly restored, looks like a film made this year! The special effects are orignal of course, not re-done, but pretty good for a 1984 movie, It was made 20 years ago, so the effects are excellent for it. If you have not seen this movie....you must have been born after 1995, because, everyone knows it. It's one of those rare movies, that litterally becomes a part of culture... Who ya' gonna call? brings an instant flashback to the ghostbuster for anyone over 10. Like "It's A Wonderfull Life", it will be around forever, which has been been around since the 40's. A must buy, well worth it. Including Deleted Scenes.

Summary: A great movie!
Review: "Ghostbusters" is one of the most memorable sci-fi comedy hybrid films of the early 1980s and for really good reason, it was a very witty, hilarious and highly original plot with awesome directing and amazing special effects which while somewhat dated in appearance, were very innovative back in it's time in 1984, before CGI effects would take the driver's seat not too long afterwards. The story and plot are really funny yet smart at the same time. The second Ghostbusters movie succeeds in going in a much more dramatic direction but the first one though compliments that sequel with a light-hearted and comedic style that few sci-fi films have matched over the years since this movie came out.

The movie is a story of four oddball scientists at a university who are kicked out because of their excessive studying of the occult. They find themselves go into a different career by means of becoming a 'ghost fighting' team called the Ghostbusters and station themselves at an old firehouse. Their mission is to fight off bad spirits, poltergeists and spirits wreaking havoc on New York's population. A woman named Dana Barrett, a resident of a large apartment building also discovers that her residency is the doorway to a dimension of an ancient demonic goddess named Gozer the Gozerian who threatens to unleash havoc on New York and ultimately the world and now the Ghostbusters are called to action to save The Big Apple from meeting it's possible annihilation from the evil forces that the dimension in Barrett's apartment threatens to unleash.

This movie truly breaks some new grounds with amazing special effects which while look extremely dated by 2004 standards, are still a visual feast to look at especially when the various bad vibes were unleashed when the Environmental agency leader shut down the containment system. The special effects look even more dated than those on the "Terminator" movie which came out around the same time. At the same time though, they give the movie a unique appeal that is found in few if any other movie since then because speciall effects while remaining awesome to watch, have gotten overused in some movies to where they overshadow the story and are CGI'd excessively. The second Ghostbusters movie took what was great about this one and built on it to create an even better sequel in my opinion but this 1984 original is not a moive that you should ever pass up the opportunity of getting your hands on and is among the greatest movies ever made during the 1980s.

Summary: MY FAVORITE MOVIE!!!
Review: I think what I like most about this film, other than my memories of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and how excited I felt when I watched him on the screen as a child, is the fact that you can literally watch this movie without a television. For instance, if you had headphones you could revel in the sound effects on just about every scene and Elmer Bernstein's background music is an ongoing presence in the film. Not to mention the fact that it's a non-stop laugh-riot if you're intelligent enough to understand the humor (which I wasn't when I was 5, but I still enjoyed the special effects and location shots) and, as stated in the paranthesis, if you're not blind, it has great visuals. As one person said on e-bay, it's a love letter to New York in its visual texture in general. Without the non-stop laughter, its still a great suspense film and hinders on the edges of drama with its sense of beauty and joy.

Summary: Lots of Fun
Review: This isn't a great movie, but then it never tried to be. It is what it tried to be: lots of fun. There's just enough of a plot to string together the action, the jokes, and especially the special effects. The impression I got, especially when I first saw "Ghostbusters," was twofold: these actors are having a blast doing this movie; these writers are trying to be as outrageous as possible.

If you seek a great film, look elsewhere. If you seek a gripping story, look elsewhere. If you seek fun, effects, and action, look no further.

Summary: Good DVD Transfer
Review: Okay, I am sure many of you who are reading this have watched the movie before, so I am not going to talk about the movie itself.
The quality of the picture and audio on this dvd is excellent. Very clean and clear. The commentary is really fun to listen to also. You can see the black siloutte of the commentators while watching the movie with commentary on. They occassionally points at the screen to tell what they are talking about etc. It's really fun and great concept. Of coure you can turn off the silouttes if you just want to hear their voices.
Some of the special feautres were nice too..but some of them I really didn't cared about...
Overall, the dvd itself deserves five stars.

Review: Not only is this one of the funniest movies ever made but its also one of the best DVDs Ive seen. You get the greats, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson at their best and they all work great with each other. The story is absolutely brlliant and it allows all of the actors to do their best. Not only that but it was one of the pioneers of its kind of special effects and the shot of the Staypuft Marshmellow man is still amazing. The DVD itself has great picture and sound and the special features are unbeleivable. You will definately get a kick out of the MST like Commentary by Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman and the writer. They have fun and it adds something to watching the movie with the commentary. The deleted scenes as well as the art they included and the documentaries on the film, short but to the point all give extra hours of entertainment.
