Summary: Send in the drones!
Review: I haven't seen Hardware Wars in years, but I have to say it is still the ultimate Star Wars parody out there. Fluke Starbucker? Princess Anne-Droid? You don't get any better than that. You think those names are funny, wait until you hear the rest. A short short, but worth every second of it for certain. I'm waiting for Hardware Wars Episode 1. May the Farce Be With You!

Summary: The Farce is definitely NOT with Hardware Wars
Review: I remember hearing about this legendary short film back in my high school days in conversations with fellow Star Wars geeks. But it was only recently that I finally got to take a look at this silly take on our friend George's little far away galaxy from a long time ago. Unfortunately, I found my self rather disappointed-it wasn't really all that funny to me. But it did have a few redeeming qualities. There were plenty of the kinda campy & silly moments that you'd come to expect from such a project, complete with the most lowbrow special effects ever seen this side of classic Star Trek. Unfortunately these moments didn't come off as being all that entertaining to me, just downright dumb. And I thought turning Chewie into the Cookie Monster was a cute touch. Otherwise, I was less than impressed, and the laughs I expected to get from this show were nearly nonexistent.

But I'll admit that if I had my 'druthers between 'Hardware Wars' and the Star Wars Holiday Special, 'HW' would get the nod every time. But if I had my 'druthers between this and, say, 'Spaceballs'-- well, that's a whole 'nother story...

Summary: Star Wars spoof is laugh-out-loud funny.
Review: I saw the original "Hardware Wars" on HBO in 1978 or '79. The "Special Edition" is even better than the original, adding new effects for the "Special Edition" that parody the added scenes/effects in the Star Wars Special Edition rerelease. My favorite scene is probably the one in which Darph Nader, standing beside a window out which we can see a (very basketball-like) planet, is interrogating the Princess, to which she can only respond, "I don't understand you." Director Ernie Fosselius has a wacky sense of humor--the "Wookie Monster" takes the cake, being a combination sight gag and pun. Another interesting thing about this movie is that it's not actually a movie--it's just a trailer for a movie that apparently has never been made. I give this movie 5 stars, not for its production values, writing, or acting, but because it's very hilarious. Star Wars fans will definitely appreciate this movie, as long as they don't take themselves too seriously.

Summary: If you like the original, you may not like this.
Review: I was very disappointed by the "Special Edition" of Hardware Wars. I am a big fan of the original and felt the added computer generated effects were unnecessary and ruined the charm of the original's tacky atmosphere. It would have been nice if they had at least included both the original and special editions on the same tape. I booed, I cried, I kissed ten bucks goodbye!

Summary: Ernie's Back and Funny As Ever !
Review: I've known Ernie for over 20 years. Hardware Wars was our first film together. I've waited a long time to see what he'd come up with next and this is it! Ernie's wit is sharp as ever. First time around his idea was to parody Hollywood and their big budget special effects movies. Now, he's taken on the world of DVD's as well which needs a comedic wake-up call. His Director's Commentary is a good natured swipe at all those precious director's commentaries. Then, in the Antique Sideshow prequel to the film he reveals the true genesis of Star Wars. There's lot of new cool stuff that he's provided on this DVD.
In addition, our old pal Luther Green went back into the studio with Ernie and redid the sound track into our own Digi Redo 8.0, so get ready for another level of fun.

Ernie is clearly one of the most creative satirists of our time!

Summary: BWAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA!
Review: If you are into Star Wars, Sci-fi, or anything geeky space-centric at all, you will be rolling on the floor laughing (that ROFL in net-geek-land) at Hardware Wars. i got this as a gift from my partner in geek-dom, and am very happy with it. I remember watching Hardware Wars years ago in the theater (in San Francisco) and they had great photos of that very theater in the dvdd features, and some great commentary from the director (very funny!). Hardware Wars, the movie itself, is about 15 minutes long, but the DVD comes out to close to an hour with all the extras, which are equally funny, especially the Antiques Roadshow spin-off. Awesome movie, even better updated on DVD. Enjoy!

Summary: Tour De Farce!
Review: If you like "Star Wars"you'll think this parody is FUNNY!Filmed in San Francisco with almost no budget,it sends our hero Fluke Starbucker on a quest to blow up a waffle iron "Death Star!"This re-issue includes all-new scenes and "special defects."I love because I'm a "Star Wars" fan who also loves humor. This tape proves lack of money doesn't alays mean lack of funny!May the farce be with you!

Summary: Hilarious Parody Is Better Than The Film It Parodies
Review: If you saw this film back when it came out in 1978 (I didn't), you should buy this release. New digital effects make this film much better than it was two decades ago, and back in 1978 you didn't get to see the Death Star (which is a waffle iron). C-3PO is now a variation of the Tin Man from Oz, Artoo-Dee-Too looks alot better (you'll see), the ejector pad is now a cassette tape, The Tatooine desert is not empty anymore (somebody's playing in the sand), the landspeeder is now a very cramped, small, odd car, blasters are now screwdrivers, and other hilarious elements. This film is a 15 minute masterpiece, and is easily the best comedy ever made to be under 30 minutes- it could be just the best short film-period. If you haven't seen the first Star Wars you're missing out on the fun. This film would probably get a PG for some thing or another- it's not innapropriate, but younger kids will think it's dumb, and they won't understand it.

Summary: Classic parody of Star Wars and great extra features
Review: It's great to finally see a classic like Hardware Wars out on DVD in its original form. I remember watching this film many times as a kid when they'd show Hardware Wars between movies on HBO as I was waiting for Smokey and Bandit 3 to come on. I was as engrossed with the Hardware Wars DVD as when I first saw Hardware Wars over 20 years ago -- the timeless special effects and the antics of Artie Deco and 4-Q-2 never get old. In fact, as I kid I was such a big fan of 4-Q-2 that my parents wanted me to stop saying his name in the house. I've been a big fan of the Star Wars films for 25 years and Hardware Wars will always be
the original and ultimate parody even a quarter century later.

The best reason to get this DVD are all the exciting Extras thrown in. The "Foreign" version of Hardware Wars is even funnier than the original, and proves once and for all that Darph Nader is impossible to understand in any language. Star Wars collectors will love the interview with Ernie Fosselius, the director of Hardware Wars, where he describes the merchandising behind the film including the highly-coveted coupon for the
Early Bird Kit for the Hardware Wars action figures. I was stunned to see all the lost footage painstakingly restored in the Director's Cut, which is a must for any fan who has seen Hardware Wars many times over. It's a great package packed with many surprises and an essential part of any Star Wars fan's DVD collection.
