Summary: Who ya gonna call???
Review: This is a great example of a classic film that everyone owns or has at least seen. This film perfectly displays Dan Aykroyd's and Harold Ramis' great comedy writing talents and Bill Murray's ability to make people laugh. With a great theme song, a great story, great comedy, great characters played by great actors and well, kinda outdated special effects this film is just great fun to watch!

Summary: Avoid the VHS version
Review: Okay, first off, the 2 stars are for the *video itself*, not the movie. The movie is hilarious and very well done -- 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, the VHS version is terrible. The screen reformatting is horrendous -- the "pan and scan" isn't smooth at all, and the coloring is obviously off at some points. Get the DVD instead.

Summary: When You Need Cheering Up, Play this Movie
Review: I first saw this movie twenty years ago. I could not stop laughing then and I cannot stop laughing now.
Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray had perfected a deadpan comedic style by then that meshed beautifully with this script. Even in comedy, it is a stretch to assume that grown men would fight green monsters--and build a business from it- in the Manhattan of the 1980's. Sigourney Weaver plays off the male leads seamlessly as their client whose apartment is ground zero for the monsters. When you see her in this role, and think of her later one in Working Girl, you wish she had done more comedy throughout her career. Rick Moranis is hysterical as her neighbor, an accountant looking for a good time. I wish I had seen him in more roles over the past few years.
Time has been kind to this movie. Yes some things are dated but that makes the film more enjoyable in many ways.
The DVD offers a fun voice over track from the director and others. You learn a number of interesting things-Moranis was not the original choice for the role, for instance-and hear about how various shots were filmed in the Manhattan locations. You get the idea from the participants in the voice over track that these were their "good old days." Even if you own the VHS, the DVD is worth the purchase for the voice over track and deleted scenes.
I would recommend this movie for those who enjoy comedy, particularly of the broad and physical genre. Yes there are many, many great, crackling lines throughout the movie. However, if witty repartee is your thing, well this movie may not be for you. For the rest of you, sit back and enjoy.

Review: You know a comedy film like this is a classic when you can walk up to people and essentially quote it's most esoteric errata, such as:"Would you like some coffee?"
"Would I"
"Yes, have some."
"Yes, have some!!" Without even knowing which characters are speaking which line, it's still silly and funny as hell... and the lines from "Ghostbusters" (an especially well written script) create many bonding moments between those in the know... much like "Stripes" and "Caddyshack" this one's a comedy classic that remains as funny as the day it was released. Oh, and the special effects still work... before cgi jaded our senses, it took good ol' foam latex to make many of these creatures come alive (with a dose of good ol' rotoscoping). The entire tech team for this film were masters of their craft. Highly recommended.

Summary: Grew up loving this movie, still do
Review: This is one of the funniest movies you can buy. Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, with Harold Ramis are stellar. Here is something people in Hollywood should understand, special effects don't make movies, actors and writing do. In Ghostbusters we get what becomes the standard for comedy and science fiction. Some of your younger viewers will complain about the nature of the special effects, but remember, some of your younger viewers like Eminem, so how smart can they be? Anyway, in the DVD you get some special features that should attract people who may already own the VHS version. One of them is a deleted scene with Aykroyd and Murray playing two homeless guys during the famous dog chase scene. Also, the running commentary feature is entertaining, and provides some insight into the production and evolution of this must see movie.

Summary: I have the guts to say it...
Review: Since no one else will, I'll point out what the problem with this movie is: it has aged poorly. The first half is still pretty funny, but it peters out into a bunch of badly dated special effects. The DVD was highly touted when it first came out as being "loaded" with "goodies." Well, I have come to pretty much ignore extras on dvds at this point, but I will point out that compared to the extravaganzas being released these days, this dvd is nothing to write home about. This movie will always be noteworthy for becoming such a huge hit, but time has not been kind.

Review: After finally watching it all the way, I have realized that the WS is not that bad on here. Like the title of this reviews says, it's a great movie and one that I have always liked. The Final Verdict that has been appealed from last time: I would buy it, but if you're still skeptical or will have the same problems like I did have, then rent it first and see what you think.

Summary: One of my favorite movies and DVDs I own.
Review: "Ghostbusters" is a big hit at the box office in 1984 and it is one of the best DVDs I own. Three scientists (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis) get out of university and decided to set up the shop in the firehouse to become Ghostbusters to trap ghosts for money. If you own a DVD player, you must own this excellent DVD. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Review: Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action.
