Rating: Summary: Tugs at the heart Review: Well, im glad to see so many rave reviews of my favorite movie. I also am waiting for a DVD release of the wonderful film which should be spectacular. i would also think that a commentary by the director would be fascinating as this movie operates on so many different levels that the directors view would be very interesting indeed.
Rating: Summary: It breaks your heart and gives you hope Review: Is it a comedy? a fairy tale? a adventure? a romance? Its all of the above and so much more! Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have a chemistry in this film that is so much better than When Harry met Sally. Tis one of my favorite movies of all time..the music especially is wonderful and conveys the right mood throughout the film.

Rating: Summary: The Great, Modern Morality Tale Review: Not just a movie, this film is a template for life in the modern era! I use it to navigate my way through the uncounted trials and tests of every day life in America, relationships, work, etc. How many times have I said to myself, "Very interesting... as a LUGGAGE problem." Or told my sweetie, "<sputter> That's for you!" Or even refused an invitation, any kind, with the excuse that I feel "blotchy"? Anyone who cares to refine their engagement with the larger world around them MUST know this movie, if only to be prepared - at a moment's notice - to remark "I'm not arguing that with YOU!" See it, many times, please, just SEE IT.
Rating: Summary: Joe vs. the Volcano Review: I'm so glad to see all the positive reviews of one of my favorite movies. I used to work at a video store and I'd play Joe all the time. Customers would walk in and either groan because they hated it with every fiber of their being, or occasionally someone would walk in, look up at the screen and pleasantly sigh, "Joe." I knew they got it. Unfortunately, most people don't get this movie, and it's really too bad. It's a wonderful little story full of symbolism and soul. (Not to mention it makes you laugh hysterically) How can you not like a movie where the main character's diagnosis is a brain cloud? I love this movie, and I hope more people give it a chance.
Rating: Summary: Most People Miss the Point Review: The first time I watched this movie, shortly after its release, when I was a small lad, something struck me as "different" about this movie. The direction was good, the plot was VERY simple, and the acting was wonderful, with plenty of comedic and ironic elements. However after watching it again during my high school years, I remember picking out dozens of metaphorical and symbolic items from the plot. Every evil or destructive force in Joe's life is symbolized by the company logo that the film features at the beginning, right down to the lightning bolt featured prominently later in the film. The fact that every woman important to Joe is the same girl, the lovely Meg Ryan, carries the theme of recurrence quite well. To sum it up, Joe is an individual who has died, if not in reality, in spirit, stuck in a dead-end job after personal crises drove him to hypochondria. He discovers he is terminally ill, then is confronted by an eccentric millionare who wants Joe to sacrifice himself to a volcano on a small polynesian island to secure mining rights for his superconductor company. Joe proceeds to go on an endless stream of discovery, realizing that while he may be dying, he was never more alive. The recurring themes in this movie, such as the jagged line logo, Meg Ryan's appearance, his luggage, and the bizarre but likeable characters he's confronted with throughout make this movie seem more like a vision quest for Joe than the last few weeks of his life. The plot is simple, but hides deeper meanings and morals, like any great fairy tale. This is possibly the best movie I have ever seen, and very worthy of purchase. Now if they'd just put it on DVD.
Rating: Summary: I thought I was the only one! Review: When I first saw this film in the theater, I could never convince my friends to go see it. It was their loss. Meg Ryan is spectacular. While they are stylistically different, "Joe vs. the Volcano" is remarkably close in sentiment and quality to Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life." ("Joe" even contains an homage to the Capra film. When Jimmy Stewart is given a large piece of luggage before leaving to work on a tramp steamer, he says, "If the boat sinks, I can use it as a raft.") This movie was widely panned by critics and audiences at its release, but so was "It's a Wonderful Life." Over half a century later, Capra's film is one of the most enduring and enjoyed films in American cinema. Perhaps in another twenty-five years, I'll be able to say, "I told you so." Favorite line: "Very interesting...as a luggage problem."
Rating: Summary: We are all Joe Banks. Review: Three of us went to see this when it was first released in the theatres. We left the theatre and remarked how much we truly hated this movie, but then, swear to God, the next day, the three of us pretty much simultaneously called each other and said WE HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE AGAIN. We went 4 nights in a row. If you saw it once and it didn't get you, try try again, it will break your heart and you will be a believer! Meg Ryan is brilliant, and truly, Oscar worthy.
Rating: Summary: Unusual Comedy. Review: Tom Hanks Give a Good Performance in this film, he plays Joe, a man always haves headaches, His life is very boring and his job is depressing. Now his doctor say he has about six months to life and An Mystery Old Man come to him, about a island, where, there a volcano. The Old Man Needs Something in that island but the tribe, who live in that island, want a man to jump in inside a VOLCANO! and There give The Old Man, What he needs. Meg Ryan gives Three Differant Woman in his life. It`s Fun to see Hanks and Ryan in a movie together like Sleepless In Seattle and You`ve Got Mail. Grade:A-.
