Rating: Summary: Rich symbolism in wonderful comedy-very unusual combination Review: I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one to notice the rich and uplifting symolism in this movie and that at least one other loved the soundtrack. I'd pay premium price to get a copy of the soundtrack. I find new meaning each time I watch this and find I need to see it regularly for the boost it gives me. I'd love to explain the symbolism to the person in Utah! A great example is the 3 times during the movie that he raises his arms toward heaven in 3 distinctly different expressions to the "dear God whose name I do not know." Someone told me I should write my master's thesis about this movie - I'd love to!
Rating: Summary: This is one volcano you definitely want to jump into! Review: This is a funny, romantic, and deeply spiritual film. It's a film about the importance of living deliberately and passionately. When I watch this film I feel like I've been awakened from a long, long sleep. I walk around for a while in a state of complete and total amazement.Warning: This film is not for those with a cynical heart. I've met people who couldn't see the spiritual meaning in this film. To them, this film is a mildly amusing slapstick with a strange, quirky plot. Don't listen to these people - just smile knowingly and don't make them late for work, because Mr. Waturi might get angry with them... ;)
Rating: Summary: Give this movie a chance Review: Even though Joe is one of the most maligned movies of all time, I think it is one of the greatest. The acting is good, the symbolism is pervasive, and the underlying message is quite profound. Give it a chance! I've seen it several times, and it never ceases to amuse and inspire me.
Rating: Summary: BUY IT! CHERISH IT! Review: Amazon.com needs to replace the Maltin review with Roger Ebert's review. Ebert gave the movie a rating of four out of four stars and a big thumbs up. Judging by the customer reviews on this page, Ebert was more in tune with the film's authentic merits. I would say that this film is one of the best I've ever seen. It has changed my life philosophy. I would advise you to buy it NOW and to count yourself as lucky for owning a copy. If at all possible, also buy it on laserdisc for the full glory of the letterboxed widescreen version. I hope and pray that it will be released on DVD soon!!!
Rating: Summary: Top to bottom, a quality film Review: The first thing that touched me was the soundtrack, which seemed to appropriately underscore the delicate symbolism of the film. I find it suprising that reviewers wrote off the end of the movie rather than take heed of the subtlety of the beauty of the ending, and the pervasive humor of the entire story.
Rating: Summary: An uplifting and visually rich film Review: This film struck me as a masterpiece from the first viewing (of many), and this feeling is strengthened each time I watch it. The acting is superb, the visual imagery subtle yet striking, the theme uplifting. If you ever doubt Meg Ryan's versatility as an actress, watch this film--she is brilliant! This is one of my all-time favorite movies, and it is one I enjoy watching again and again. A much deserved five stars!
Rating: Summary: the best movie I've seen Review: This movie is deeper than possibly imaginable. I want someone to sit me down and explain the symbolism that I don't understand. This film touched me in a way I thought only possible by french cinema.
Rating: Summary: A Modern Classic Fairy Tale Review: My husband and I love this movie! Complex but simply presented, it's a fairy tale that echoes in your heart. Watch it a few times to catch some of the visual gags, lighting shifts, and other technical complements to Hanks' and Ryan's excellent acting.
Rating: Summary: The best. Review: quite possibly the best movie ever made. Sure, you can't really qualify *one* movie as the best due to there being so many different genres. But this one should certainly rank in the top ten! We pull out our laserdisc copy of this (widescreen!) fairly regularly for viewing. I hope we get a good treatment when it comes to DVD.
Rating: Summary: It gives life hope Review: This is possible the best movie ever made for one main reason, it gives life hope. We all get a little to caught up in our own lives to realize that there are more important things in life. This movie is a constant reminder that we all need to take a little break to smell the roses.
