Summary: Easily overlooked but never forgotten
Review: I guess many missed this movie in theatrical release but those who have seen it like I cannot forget how wonderful this movie is. It unfolds like a fairy tale in wondrous images of New York or Los Angeles but the ending on the fictitious island is almost where things seem normal with Joe jumping into the volcano! okay it sounds silly but it is a magical and delightful movie that is better than 99% of the movies out there.

Summary: It may have faults but you'll love it all the more for them.
Review: I had never actually heard of this film before I saw it and as it was that famous duo I expected the usual Meg/Tom Romantic comedy type of affair but I was actually quite suprised to find a film which seems shallow and silly at first but when you think of it it actually has a suprisingly large amount of depth. There is also very good simbolism. The main thing that really adds depth is Meg plays 3 characters at 3 points in the film. At each points the wholelook and feel of the film changes. If you like a film to make you think and are not purely in it for Eye candy then you will find a great film with a large amount of depth.

Summary: So misunderstood
Review: This movie suffers from one thing and one thing only - it is always tagged as a comedy. Although there are funny moments (because there are things in life which are funny) it should not be watched as such. People miss the meaning because they are waiting for belly laughs or fart jokes which never come.

For other Joe Banks out there like myself the movie speaks like no other I have ever seen. If you are not Joe, then a happy life to you. You are perhaps lucky that you didnt like this film....

Summary: When will we see a DVD version?

Summary: LOOK PAST THE SURFACE - THIS FILM TRUELY HAS A SOUL
Review: What a surprise to see that so many others have given this film such high marks. I've seen so many people bash this movie simply because it was over their heads. One line from the film sums it up: "Almost the whole world is asleep: Everybody you see, everybody you know, everybody you talk to. Only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant, total amazement".

The "awake" ones are those who can see beyond the somewhat corney texture this film shows on the surface, down into the highly stylized depth of this film's soul. This is a film to make your heart swell and your spirit soar.

Summary: Easily dismissed by those lacking insight
Review: Most people miss the symbolism and surreal wit that hides just below the surface of this film. Most people will question you when you tell them what an incredible film it is. "It was cute," they'll say, "but I don't see what the big deal is." And you'll try to explain it to them, and they'll grudgingly admit that maybe there was more going on in this film than they noticed, but they still won't like it. ("There weren't enough explosions," they'll be thinking. "And not a single gun!")

This is not a movie for shallow movie-goers. This is a movie for those willing to completely throw away their sense of disbelief and to whole-heartedly embrace a witty, inventive, and clever movie. A movie so clever, in fact, that it can successfully imitate your typical romantic comedy so well that the average viewer will be fooled.

But you won't be fooled. You'll appreciate this rare gem for what it is.

Summary: Are you Joe, Banks?
Review: One of my favorite films. Full of symbolism and philosophical insight. Subtle humor. Certainly not a movie for the masses. My favorite scene is when out of total frustration, Joe opens or closes the main drain. Pure genius.

Summary: A Modern Analogy of a Spiritual Journey
Review: I enjoy watching this film over and over again. The best part is showing it to friends who never saw all the symbolism the first time around. Joe is the typical "soul sick" human being trying to find his way down the "crooked path" of life. The symbolism, foreshadowing and multiple roles Meg Ryan plays all come together to show that the sacrament of love in life is sacrifice! The film presents the Spiritual Journey in a safe, delightful and often inspirational way. There are a lot of good Christian teaching segments in this film.
