Summary: Comedy Classic
Review: Many view this movie as a step down from many of Mel's classics, but in my opinion, this remains one of the best comedies of all time. Spoofing the widely popular Star Wars trilogy, Spaceballs is hilarious. Mel himself, John Candy, the sound guy from the Police Academy movies, among others are all great. It is pure comedy. Cheesy at times, yes, but most comedies are. This is slapstick in it's purest form.

Extras are a little lacking on this DVD, but you can't beat the price. I have heard reports of a possible Special Edition, but no word on a date yet.

Summary: classic space spoof
Review: Mel Brooks has created some great satires, his best being Young Frankenstein. But Spaceballs, his spoof of space movies, is also a good film. There are jokes coming every 30 seconds, and while all of them don't hit, many do, and there are several really good ones. Rick Moranis steals the show as Dark Helmet, and Brooks puts in a solid performance as President Scroob, leader of the Spaceballs. The effects are pretty good, considering how ... the movie feels (believe it or not, it cost 25 million to make, or so Brooks says). Star Wars and Star Trek have so inundated American pop culture that Brooks satire of the genre has become a classic (and he spoofed Planet of the Apes, Wizard of Oz, and Lawrence of Arabia among other filmsas well). The dvd is put together to make a funny package. There is a short behind the scenes featurette and a commentary track by Brooks. The commentary track is pretty much worthless. You don't get many new insights, and in fact Brooks doesn't seem to realize just what a commentary is for. Still, the film is what you buy the dvd for, and it is a good movie.

Summary: I'm happy to finally see this movie in widescreen!
Review: Spaceballs is a very funny movie, it is one of my favorite Mel Brook's movies, it is not my #1 favorite that would have to be a tie between Young Frankenstein and Silent Movie but it still gets 5 stars from me! It is a very hysterically funny spoof of Sci-Fi/Fantasy, including Star Trek, Star Wars, 2001 A Space Odyssey, The Planet Of The Apes, etc. A lot of funny scenes including the family on board The Spaceball ship that have an expletive as their last name. I had the movie on video but since I got the DVD I gave the video to a relative. The DVD is very good, So it doesn't have enough extras but it's in widescreen and that's a plus and I would rather have a widescreen DVD than a full screen video, I didn't get to see the movie in the theater but only on full screen videos and I prefer the widescreen DVD! If you have a DVD player Definitely go with the widescreen DVD!

Summary: A Must See for the Sci Fi Fan! It Totally ROCKS!
Review: I love Sci Fi. I love Mel Brooks! And the two together give you an incredible movie experience! A tongue-in-cheek spoof on some of the greatest Sci Fi movies of our time....Star Wars....Planet of the Apes.....it's a laugh riot! I've seen it probably no less than a hundred times and I'm still not tired of it. I'm now buying it for my son because he loves it as much as I do! You HAVE to get this movie, especially if you love Sci Fi. It's got an all star cast and the comedic genious of Mel Brooks. What more could anyone ask for?

Review: This video is without a doubt the most phenominal movie ever. This movie has a lot of cussing in it. Allow me to phrase a scene.
He's a "BEEP" sir.
I know that what's his name.
That is his name sir "BEEP" Major "BEEP".
How many "BEEPS" do we got on this ship.
Yo!
I knew it I'm surrounded by "BEEP"s. Keep firing "BEEPS"s.
This movie has outstanding comedy and will tower over any movie. After all it's got Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, and John Candy. What more fun do you want. Remember may the Shwarts be with you.

Summary: Love the director's commentary!
Review: After being a Spaceballs fan for so many years, this DVD was a treat. Especially a treat is seeing the movie with Mel Brooks's comments as voiceover. Who knew that the "planet" where the Winnebago crash-landed was actually done in Yuma, Arizona? All in all, a great buy, and very much worth it over the VHS version.

Summary: Worse than can be easily imagined.
Review: Putting this movie in your player can clear a room faster than a Fire Alarm. It was apparent when HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I was released that Mel Brooks had blown his comedic gift, but I doubt anyone expected the man behind the truly great YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN to bottom out as completely as he did here. Witless and torturously unfunny, with nearly every tired, corny gag ponderously telegraphed minutes in advance, (It's...the...Statue...of...Liberty... "Planet...Of...the...Apes"...joke...coming...up...in...a...moment).There's really no way for me to convey how unremittingly awful SPACEBALLS is. When I saw it in the theater, I can recall only two genuine laughs in the entire picture: The never-endingly long spaceship that just keeps on passing by at the beginning, and the "One Froggy Evening" / Looney Tunes reference during the ALIEN parody. I believe I spent the rest of the time retching. You'd be better off watching your toenails grow than punishing yourself by sitting through this mess.

Review: I loved this movie. If you liked star wars and have a sense of humor you will love it. My Girlfriend thought it was funny and she hasn't even seen any of the star wars movies

Summary: Jiminy Critic on Space Balls
Review: This is a comedy thais a total whackout that was made to toast on Star Wars. My favorite Character was Yogurt, who portrayed Chewbacca the Wookie. My favorite scene was when that frog-like creature comes out of the man's chest and starts dancing. This DVD may not be the best DVD ever, but it's on my top ten list. Mel Brooks has made one of the greatest movies of all time. I give this book a ***** rating for its humor.

Summary: slapstick comedy
Review: I first saw this film when I was 12, and I remember how much I laughed when I saw it.
This is a spoof of all things science fiction, it has references to Star Trek, and all of the charcters are based on thos in Star Wars.
The story is that a group of charcters known as the Spaceballs, led by the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and Colnel Sanders ( can you believe it?) plan to steal the air from planet Druidia for their own planet. But first, they need something to bargain with. And so, they plot to kidnap Princess Vespa, the daughter of King Roland of Druidia. She has just jilted her fiance at the altar in search of adventure.
Enter Lone Star and his sidekick Barf ('Barf, Puke. Whatever!), who are hired by the King to rescue her before she is taken captive by the Spaceballs.
The sort of film one would watch at home on a rainy day.
