Summary: Really FUNNY
Review: This was really funny. If you have read some of my other reviews you might know that I'm a big fan of comedy movies. This was really funny. Was it the dirty jokes? The funny lines? The action and everything else that happened in the movie. I don't know what made this movie funny but it just is. BUY it.

Summary: Probably the best spoof of all time.
Review: Mel Brooks is the master..."We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" This whole movie is a tongue in cheek jab at the genre of sci fi movies: Star Wars, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes. I about fell off the couch rolling with laughter...every time I watch it. Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet has to be one of best casting decisions of all time ("I hate it when my schwartz gets twisted!"). If you like spoofs and cheap shots and bad jokes (bad as in "*groan*...I can't believe they actually went there...hahahahahaha!") and falling of the couch in fits of laughter, this movie is definitely for you!

Summary: The Master Again Strikes Back At Cinematic Trends
Review: Mel Brook's canned air supplying, chest exploding, crotch damaging, ludicrously speeding, and devestatingly funny sci-fi farce takes a huge uproaruous backhand to George Lucas Star Wars trilogy, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek television show, and several other popular futuristic movies. Brooks makes sure not to leave ANYONE out from the tounge-in-cheek mockery that he is so notorious known for in the past. Taking the basic plot elements of the orginal Star Wars, Brooks earnestly attempts to lampoon, satrize, pulverize, or just plain milk every science-fiction film convention for all their worth. Everything from the stupidity of the Star Wars stormtroppers, the sudden terror of Alien's chestbuster, the hokeyness of the force, the true meaning of light speed, to the impractical nature of Star Trek's transporters are all embarrsed to no end. Especially notable is the comical conterparts Brooks creates from his source movies. The character of Star Wars's C-3PO is turned into a Joan Rivers voiced nanny. Star Wars's Chewbacca is morphed into a half-man-half-human played by the late John Candy. The mysterious personna of Frank Oz's Yoda is morphed into Mel Brooks appearing in green face make-up potraying the role of Yogurt. The very despicable Darth Vader voiced so brillantly by James Earl Jones is mercesslessly comically savaged by a small and minute Rick Moranis. Everything from set direction, dialogue, and to one's awareness of stunt doubles are juiced and catapulted to the height of Brooksian comedy. Mel Brooks casting decisions along with his humurously deft, extremely knowledgable, and consistantly brillant direction put Spaceballs in a special league of classic cult comedies. For those interested in Spaceballs on DVD, the films prestine widescreen presentation along with the insightful Mel Brooks commentary more than compensate for the price. A must-see.

Summary: A comdey everyone will enjoy
Review: This is the best Mel Brooks movie ever. You will not stop laughing through out the movie... and it's just as funny every time I see it. Didn't see Star Wars? No problem - everyone can understand the humor. A must see for anyone who likes Mel Brooks. If you liked "Airplane" or "Naked Gun", you'll love this film!

Summary: Ludicrous Speed
Review: This movie is the first one I ever remember seeing. I think that it is a smart and witty take on the whole genre of sci-fi. The laughs never stop during this Mel Brooks directed epic. You will be a much happier person after you add this classic to your DVD library. Just E-Mail me if you have any additional questions. As the all powerful Yogurt says: "May the Schwartz be with youauauouauuouaouuuu!"

Summary: When will 'Then' be 'Now'? Soon. How Soon?
Review: Probably the most notable genre spoof of popular science fiction films (especially the 'Star Wars' flicks), 'Spaceballs' does contain a few funny and interesting moments, but these are few and far between. The rest of the time is filled with 'groaner'- type humor- really bad puns, sight gags that fall flat, and the like. I consider this movie to be the first to mark the decline of Mel Brooks as a cinematic comedy genius, as his subsequent genre parody efforts 'Robin Hood: Men In Tights' and 'Dracula: Dead And Loving It' would eventually prove. 'Spaceballs' seemed more like a marginal Zucker Brothers ('Airplane!', 'The Naked Gun') satire to me than a Mel Brooks production.

But, despite the numerous drawbacks, there are some moments in the movie that I do enjoy:

- Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) inquires about the relationship between the crew members of his flagship following a less-than-competent attack on Princess Vespa's escape vessel, and discovers that they all share the same last name... which I'll not disclose. You'll have to find out for yourself.

- Dark Helmet and his second-in-command Col. Sandurz, in attempt to discover the whereabouts of the movie's heroes, fast-forward through a rental video of 'Spaceballs'- the very movie they are still in the process of making! At one point they play the exact moment where they're viewing the video to find the heroes' whereabouts, in 'real time'! The dialogue between the perplexed antagonists regarding this synchronized development is reminiscient of the classic Abbott and Costello sketch 'Who's On First?' The title of my review for this movie is actually part of that conversation.

- Dark Helmet's lightsaber-schwartz duel against the hero Lone Star (Bill Pullman) had some good points, especially when 'Helmet reveals his relationship to Lone Star... which proves to be a less than significant one.

I also get a kick, though not much of a laugh, out of the Schwartz-master Yogurt (Mel Brooks, modeled after Yoda) showing off to Lone Star and his compatriots all of the 'Spaceballs' merchandise- lunch boxes, t-shirts, etc. Yogurt then comments that merchandising is "where the REAL money from the movie is made!" Having worked at a collectibles shop for a few years, I know all too well just how true that statement is.

There's a couple other neat scenes, but you'll have to experience them on your own. I don't want to act the spoiler any more than I already have.

So, if you're looking for a genre parody that has a few sporadic sparks of brilliance nestled between mostly mediocre (or worse) moments, 'Spaceballs' might just be right up your alley!

'Late...

Summary: No one would DARE give this movie the rasberry!
Review: This movie is hilarious! Although I'm sure that the fact I was obessesed to an unhealthy degree with the Star Wars movies as a child (I was CONVINCED someday I would marry Luke Skywalker, but enough about me...) made me love this movie all the more. May the schwartz be with you! Ohhhh, I'm melting, what a world, what a world....

Summary: ludicrous speed!
Review: This movie's hilarious, even if you don't get Star Wars. Mel Brooks spoofs everything from Star Trek to Star Wars (there's even a Wizard of Oz parody), and does a good job, sparing nothing. I liked the Instant Video scene (which makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch it), the scene where the ship goes into "ludicrous speed", the A--hole scene, and the scene where President Skroob reveals his luggage combination (12345). If you've seen Galazy Quest or any Star Wars or Star Trek flick, you will enjoy this.

Summary: Aw-freakin'-some!
Review: This movie rocked! I saw it a few years ago, and it was great! It is a mockery of Star Wars, Star Trek, the mob, pizza, and much more! It is about the kidnapping of Princess Vespa, who is like leia. After Lone Star and Barf, the mockeries of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca, save her from the spaceballs, they have to stop them from stealing all the oxygen from Vespa's home planet. Rick Moranis is hilarious as Dark Helmet, who is a short guy that only takes off his helmet when no one's looking. Mel Brooks, as Yogurt, the Spaceballs merchandiser, is very funny. I cannot possibly explain how funny this movie is in 1,000 words. But if you want to laugh like crfazy, buy it!
