Summary: Enchanting!
Review: Pardon the pun. How else do you describe an incredible, fun, loving movie of two sisters who can't seem to help getting into trouble? Exactly. Enchanting.
The movie begins with two doting aunts telling their orphaned neices the story of their heritige. It was a curse that "any man who dared love an Ownes woman was doomed to die." And it happened.
The neices are Gillian and Sally Owens, two sisters who are, well, witches, like their aunts. Their aunts take them in, and give them choclate for breakfast, no brushing teeth or hair, and teach them magic.
Well, it's not long before Gillian runs away, and Sally gets married. Then, Sally's husband dies, leaving her with two little girls-Kylie and Antonia. And Gillian gets into trouble...big trouble with a boyfriend.
Suddenly, with a whirlwind of magic and mistakes, they have a ghost, a possession, two angry aunts, a cop, and, oh yeah, a Phone Tree day.
This movie is a wonderful blend of fantasy, magic, and love.
This contains many good quotes, such as:Gillian: Have you ever spread your arms up and spun around really really fast? Well, that's what love is like. Sally: Since when is being a slut a crime in this family? Now, I'm going to go read the book and leave you with the words of Aunt Jet:
"There's a little witch in all of us."

Summary: Great movie
Review: I really enjoyed this film, moreso the second time around than the first. They really strived to create a magical atmophere, and it's interesting how the characters otherwise mundane lives are constantly reinforced or disrupted by the supernatural world all around them. Very magical, and a fantasy, but they made sure to make several important points about the craft. Great ensemble acting, too, where the work of the supporting actors is as (if not more) interesting as that of the leads. The color, the texture, the natural setting (San Juans substituting for Massachusetts), coupled with a moody, provocative soundtrack really make this film something different.

Summary: An amazing movie that surpasses a great book
Review: How often do you watch a movie based on a book and discover that the movie is just as good, or perhaps better?! That is what happens with Practical Magic. The book, by Alice Hoffman, is gripping and interesting (I read it in about three hours), but the movie suprasses it. Sandra Bullock plays Sally beautifully, and Nicole Kidman plays Gillian with ease. The young girls who play Kylie and Antoinetta are amazing, and the aunts are played to perfection. Griffin Dunne doesn't disappoint with great camera direction. I can't praise this movie enough. It is a little confusing at times, and doesn't follow the book much at all, but the creative license that the writers, actors, and director took make the adventure all the better. It's a great choice!

Review: well let me tell you that this movie is one of my favorites! i've only watched it two times but i swear i could watch it again and again and so i'm gonna buy it on dvd! it's a real and tipically feel-good movie. sandra and nicole are hillarious as those two witch-sisters! it's sweet, it's moving, it's funny, it's scary and it's magical! you realy should watch this powerful movie or you will regret it.

Summary: Nice but I would prefer the book!
Review: I saw this flick on a Saturday night and actually liked it. From what I had heard from my friends, I thought I would not like it at all but then again, just goes to show when you make a movie out of a book - sometimes there are chances that it might turn out nice. The story line is fairly simple : No man dare come in contact with Owen Women - a long lost curse will surface everytime and kill the poor guy. Cut to Present: Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman live with their aunts in a cool house, eating chocolates for breakfast, drinking martini potions and talking about love. Sandra gets married, loses her husband and re-enters the aunts' house with her two girls only to save Kidman from her drunk boyfriend who in the bargain gets killed accidentally. Enters cop Aidan Quinn - dashing as ever to investigate the case and fall head over heels for Ms. Bullock. Wait! There's more. The boyfriend's spirit arrives within time and thereon what follows is to be seen and not read... Good performances by everyone. A good, crisp script in hand and you have a nice made movie. I have to get the book and compare the two. Till then you go borrow or buy the DVD!!

Summary: Practically magic? or a cauldron of mess?
Review: definately the first! Practical magic is a beautifully thoughtout film. The acting is great, and Sandra (once again!) shines throughout, and had an extreme moment that even had me holding back the tears. It is also in association with Fortis films, Sandra's own production company!. I like Nicole Kidman in this and I wasn't expending to! The Owens house is enchanting, I'd love to live there if it was real. There is one set back to this brilliant movie though. It had darker elements which for me were some of the best bits, that only showed at the end of the film. For me it should've been 30 minutes longer and then would've have time to delve in deeper to the darker side of magic that it only skimmed apon. Other than that, this is a lovely film, and the extra features are sweet (note Sandra Bullock, very charming..."its one of those things, those 'magical things'!). I loved this movie. If your a Sandra fan and/or want to see something with fun, sadness and alittle enchantment, then watch this movie!!!!

Review: I loved this movie. It is my all time favorite movie ever. the acting is terrific. And the director did very good with it all. I absolutely love this movie. I would recoomened this movie.

Summary: A Fizzle
Review: This is, without a doubt, one of the worst films that I have ever seen. I purchased the video second-hand and was really looking forward to viewing it, especially after a highlight article in "Victoria" magazine on the location of the shoot. The house and garden set and the town in which the film is set are enchanting. But very patchy performances from Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman and a ridiculous script and story line render this film about as dazzling as a wet sparkler on a foggy Fourth of July. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are wonderful, as usual and exude far more sex appeal than their younger co-stars but they disappear for most of the film (magic or just poor directing?). Aidan Quinn is badly miscast as the love interest-come-detective. If you're looking for magic and romantic comedy, you're better off watching re-runs of "Bewitched".

Summary: Romantic Comedy At Its Best
Review: One of the best soundtracks in the last decade has to be Alan Silvestri's score for Practical Magic. With songs new and old from the likes of Elvis Presley, Harry Nilsson and Faith Hill, the carefully tailored music fits the film like a Saville Row suit. The story is an original one, part supernatural/witchcraft and part love story, this movie promises romance in both senses of the word. There's a wonderful piece of design work in the girls' house, probably the best and most haunted looking house since Psycho. There is plenty to praise in the actors, who from the oldest generation of women (Aunties Diane Wiest and Stockard Channing) down to the youngest have you in their spell from beginning to end. Nicole Kidman shows her talent for comedy and Sandra Bullock proves she's more than the poor man's Julia Roberts. Goran Visnjic is suitably evil as the unsuitable boyfriend and Aidan Quinn fits in well, despite making a late appearance in the film. The V.H.S. Version I have contains a mini-documentary on the making of the film, featuring interviews with the two main stars and director Griffin Dunne.

Summary: Entralling Adult Fairy Tale
Review: I probably would not have gone to see or rented this movie , but saw it on a flight on Sabena Airlines in early 1999 so I was part of a captive audience
I found the movie very charming and last weekend I rented it to see it for a second time. Good storyline and beautifully set
The two lead roles are played by Sandra Bullock : Sally ,The down to earth and good hearted Sally who wants nothing more than a happy domestic life (unfortunately there is a 300 year spell that makes a love affair with a man impossible-that is if the man is to live!)
And Nicole Kidman :Gillian the wild and mischievous one that loves the high life Both add sparkle to the movie in their own way. Then there are the two ultra-eccentric aunts who are devout believers in 'the Craft' played by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest And Sally's two daughters are charmingly portrayed by child actresses who I think will go far !!! Then there is the vampire like villain who Gillian stupidly gets involved with played by Goran Visnjic and the knight in shining armor played by the indomitable Aidan Quinn This is a enthralling adult fairy tale where good defeats evil and love conquers all (themes which have been lacking in the 90's but which I fervently hope will see revival) See it. You'll be spellbound!!!
