Summary: The Final Word On A Masterpiece!
Review: This classic Karloff vehicle has never looked better than on DVD. A crisp transfer with great sound and the restored scenes make it a joy to watch. What really makes this DVD is all the extras. A photo gallery of posters and stills and a trailer are just the tip of the iceberg. Audio commentary puts a new slant on the proceedings. A documentary by the ultimate horror historian, David Skal, gives more background and visuals on the making of this film. The real gem is a vintage short Universal film called "BOO!" which takes scenes from Nosferatu and Frankenstein while giving a comedic voice over-this is the kind of thing you rarely get to see. I hope Universal puts this much care into their other upcoming classic monster DVD releases!

Review: Frankenstein, on DVD....IT'S ABOUT TIME! This is a classic film, that deserves it's preservation digitally. The transfer is really good, despite some flaws due to the age of the film. This is a great DVD to start the Universal Monster collection, which in my opinion are the greatest horror movies ever made. The bonus features are pretty enlightening, and I hope future classics like The Wolfman, and Dracula etc. receive the same treatment. They don't make them like they used to. Highly recommended.

Summary: Justice is done to "FRANKENSTEIN"
Review: For us fans of the Universal Monsters this was what we have been waiting for. After waiting for more than 2 years for Universal Studios to come to their senses and issue their "Classic Monster" series, they have done so in grand style. Their first offering is the classic of all classics, Frankenstein ! The picture quality of the DVD is superb, a nice upgrade over the slightly grainy laser disc. For horror buffs the best bit of news is that they have restored the line "In the name of God, now I know what it feels like to be God". This line has been edited out of all versions I have seen in the last 20 years and it is great to see it back in it's full glory. Extra cool perks included on the DVD include a 45 minute documentary by David Skal. He hosts this documentary and there are interviews with Sarah Karloff as well as make up guru Rick Baker and many others. Just a side note that Mr. Skal is a most interesting gentleman who I had the pleasure of bumping into in NYC a couple of months ago and he filled me in on all of the upcoming Universal Monster releases. He says that one movie per month will be released between now and December concluding with Dracula. It is unknown whether any of the "Son of", "House of", or "Ghost of" Frankie movies are due, perhaps they will see how the current batch sell before committing on the others. So, in conclusion, go out and GET THIS DVD AND ALL THE OTHER ONES DUE OUT ON THE UNIVERSAL MONSTERS.

Summary: It's Alive!!!
Review: The DVD version of "Frankenstein" is somewhat of a surprise. As it is a black and white film, I expected all kinds of artifacts and other digital transfer related problems to crop up. This was not the case as this version is superior to all others. The film transfer is crisp with only the occasional missing frame of film causing "jumps". I would expect this is due to the age of the master prints and doesn't really detract from the film. There are some excellent bonus materials added as well. The running commentary by a film critic/historian is fun, as is the trailers and other photos. My only suggestion is that since the audio for the censored line, "Now I know what it means to be God" is included in the supplements, why has it not been edited into the print where Colin Clive mouths those words? The DVD is worth the price-buy it.

Review: This movie is just perfection. I have read the novel. Let me save you trouble of reading it be telling you that the movie is much better. Its a different storyline but considering that this movie is what made Frankenstein part of the American consciousness, this story is a better all one. The movie got down to basics while the book sulked around in melodramatic boredom. the entire cast is excellent, and the effect of the dialogue and special efffects has not faded. If your looking for science and morality read the novel. But if you enjoy classic hollywood gothic, stick to the movie.

Summary: The definitive horror flick for all time.
Review: No horror film has the power or ability to capture one's fragile attention and send chills as this masterpiece does. Even after over 65 years this picture looks just as eerie as it did when it first came out. Boris Karloff is in top form as the cinema's most misunderstood monster with stunning makeup effects that have yet to be equaled. It is the role that seared his place in the annals of moviemaking. His painful groaning and moaning seems to echo one's sole desire to have a place in society, one that is afraid to accept an individual who looks and acts different from the rest of the so-called "normal" crowd. Watch for the famous lake scene with the little girl, a scene known to create shock in 1930's audiences and still packs a whollop to this day. And no, the kitten didn't get hurt. It runs away off camera when the little girl sets it down to play with the monster.

Review: I am a 16-year-old movie buff, and this is perhaps the single greatest horror movie of all time. James Whales' direction is fantastic, and Karloff gives a stand-out performance as the monster. Colin Clive was, well there isn't much to say that hasn't been said before. He's brilliant. If you enjoy this movie, also check out 'Gods and Monsters!' Highly recommended.

Review: Provocative and atmospheric, this memorable film is a classic for its philosophical treatment of the subject matter and the attention given to all details. Karloff is outstanding as the alienated "monster" and the sets are truly remarkable. FRANKENSTEIN takes on new meaning today in light of nanotechnology and genetic engineering! Be sure to also watch the equally excellent sequence BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. Both films give new meaning to the expression: "They don't make 'em like they used to!"

Review: Frankenstein is what Boris Karloff is mostly known for. He made a wonderful performance as the monster who was created by Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive). This film is considered to be the most memorable horror film ever made. Karloff was totally unknown when he was chosen to play the monster. Today he is considered one of the most famous horror actors ever.
