Summary: Spielberg's Classic
Review: E.T. is a wonderful and dramatic movie. The story of a young alien accidentally abandoned by his people when on a visit to Earth, and quickly befriends a young boy. They bond together soon, as will you and the movie. Henry Thomas portrays the young boy, Elliott, beautifully. Happy, funny, tearful, and above all, unforgettable. An immediate classic, and should be owned by all who enjoy a good movie.

Review: This is the only film i have ever cried at. I can't find it on video anywhere in the UK, but it usually comes on tv every Christmas, so i'll be watching it (again!) A truly great film, an all-time fave for me, it touches the heart with funny scenes and sad scenes, well done Stephen!

Summary: One of Spielberg's best films
Review: The first time I saw Steven Spielberg's great film "E.T." was in 1983 in a cinema in my home town. I was six years old. I was totally captivated by it. This is not surprising since youngsters of that age are quite easily captivated. But today, 16 years later, my opinion on "E.T." did not change. It is impossible to resist the charm and the ingeniuity of the film. The creature is utterly convincing and a triumph of imagination. The term "movie magic" was never more jusified than here. Perhaps "E.T." is even the film this term was invented for. I'm really looking forward to the re-release in 2002. Until then, watch it on the biggest TV set you can get (and the best sound system to enjoy John Williams' superior score). I do not need to mention that it is absolutely necessary to rent (better buy) a widescreen edition to see it in its original 1:1,85 ratio.

Summary: A Classic Worth Preserving
Review: E.T. is still one of the all-time highest grossing films and for good reason. The story and how it is played, and photographed, is superb. The video we had has gone missing, and is sorely missed. I realize Mr. Spielberg is probably holding off on further video distributions in order to ensure a huge box-office draw when he re-releases it to the theaters. I just hope he follows up with releasing this movie on DVD, so we can continue to enjoy this movie again and again.

Summary: Absolute perfection
Review: Looking over some of the previous negative comments, I noticed two recurring threads: "boring" and "for kids." How sad it is that 17 years later, some people's attention spans have been so decimated that they have to have mindless action happening every single moment, or they write off the movie.

"E.T." is like "The Sixth Sense" "The 400 Blows" "Forbidden Games" "The Spirit of the Beehive" and other strange, wonderous films about the world of childhood. It is so perfectly shot, edited, scored, and acted, it seems to unfold in it's own parallel universe--it's completely spellbinding. To scoff at is as cheesy or "only for kids" is exactly the point: the movie is designed to sneak into the funny, scary, secret dreams you had as a kid, and ressurect them. (If you want to know how good "E.T." is, compare it to how badly Spielberg stumbled attempting the same themes and mood in "Hook.") As it stands, "E.T." ranks easily as one of the three best films of the 1980's; it will outlast most of the films of the 90's as well, and so on for as long as film exists.
