Summary: Condensing The Facts
Review: Paramount gave little thought to Voyager maintaining the Star Trek franchise. It was treated as the "Money Making Monster" that 'Star Trek' has become. Greed relentlessy dictacted the direction Voyager would take - AUTO DESTRUCT!

* It's all but impossible not to compare it to the other Star Trek series. Voyager is the worst of them all. Deep Space Nine is by far the best!

* Voyager dwells too much on their return home and give it a "Lost In Space" feel - corny, stupid, dull and overly dependent on the special effects, i.e. read that as 'weak story'.

* The characters weren't quite 'real' and as they developed the writers put the wrong people in certain situations Ex. Janeway would head missions just like Kirk did, a blatant abuse of protocol. Sometimes Tuvok (a full Vulcan) would be the most emotional character! Most of the rest of the cast would move from overwhelming a story to just 'disappearing'. The ensemble cast element rarely existed and when it did the actors were most likely 'out of character'. For the sake of screen time?

* There were some fine episodes (none that I can think of in Season 1) but even most of my favorites wouldn't make my best of list against Next Generation, DS9 or even some of the Original series!

* Being Star Trek you would expect nothing short of great packaging (consensus says no) but Paramount is just peddling something the fans are so addicted to that they will buy it in droves, no matter the packing or...

* High price for a short season, which is also one of the worst as far as stories go. It makes Next Generations' season one look brilliant (it wasn't).

* The sad truth is the market was prepared for the onslaught of sales of a so-so series at a very high price with the poorest of packaging and the extreme hard core fans have left everyone else wondering why? Save your money, watch the reruns.

Summary: Excellent Packaging
Review: This is some of the best packaging I have seen for a highly commercial product. I am a Graphic Designer and Art Director and can tell that some thought went into it. The simplicity is wonderful. The plastic is a perfect solution and a refreshing change from the typical black (good package design is about using materials well). It also allows for each season to have a completely different and all-encomapassing color. The simple disc design is classy and effective. Granted, some good liner notes and inserts would have been nice. But that is a different issue.

The content of the DVD's is, of course, excellent. I have been a fan since the show started, and finally being able to watch the episodes whenever I want is wonderful. I enjoyed each season (and took each one with a grain of salt) but this first one has something special about it. Everything seems fresh and exciting. Worth the money.

Summary: Best of the new Star Treks
Review: I think Voyager ultimately became the best of the new Star Trek series. Next Generation is a close second, but Voyager was more mature. One of the best captains, and not an easy role to fill. And the last episodes of the series (season seven) is probably the best of the Star Trek movies.

Review: I did not get into Voyager until the 5th season thanks to my sister persistance I gave in. The series in general is great. However the plastic covering is a little Lame, but you cant get everything we want i will contitue to get the series i already have 5 out of 7 of TNG (Season 1,4-7).

Summary: Fantastic movie wrapped with Rubbish box !
Review: After collecting TNG series You might be very disappointed when opening Voyager Season package. My first impression was that the box set is incomplete, that something is missing. What you get is 5 DVD's packed in the cheapest, orange and slim disk 5-box which has nothing from the dignity of the movie. It looks like the set is packed with replacement box. The box envelope is not even made of plastic but from thick plastic foil. There is practically no way to smoothly close the box without fastening also cheaply glued back paper cover. What a shame! The DVD discs looks like they're copied from the original ones, the top side of the disc has almost no print except small and hard to read white information regarded recorded DVD material. For me personally they remind a clean DVD+R/-R discs ready to be burned. The package is designed so badly, that there is no way to avoid fingerprints on the first disc surface when taking out any discs just because this one is not covered with anything! Inserting the disc is also difficult, the center disc holder is so tight that you get the feeling about possible disc damage. Personally I suggest to secure all discs using another package. With original ST-V package your discs will become dirty and even might become damaged in case of accidental squeeze. I give "0" (zero) stars for packaging.

But things become even worse because in US version of season 1 there are 2 episodes missing: "Arena" and "The City On The Edge Of Forever". These two episodes are included in European version of Voyager, isn't it interesting ? Anyway having multiregion dvd-player consider purchase further Voyager Seasons released in Europe. You will get a nice package and as I see more episodes to enjoy. Anyway this is what I'm going to do.
The overall 3 stars note comes from the fact that the movie and sound transfer is very good and it deserves 5 stars. Comparing to the older TNG series a picture is much more sharp and clear. For the first time since TNG, I was able to watch ST Voyager on my 105" wall projector with no prejudice. But why someone in Paramount decided to release this fantastic series in so shameless box ? For me this release is just an example of a mistake or ignorance of ST fans :-(

Summary: Great Series, Bad Paramount
Review: Voyager is without a doubt, one of the best. The show's got a great mix and an excellent cast. I saw this DVD collection, however, at a local video store and was less than impressed. I definately would not pay 130$ for this DVD set, - you don't even get the consolation prize of a nice box and pamphlet to make the money worth it. Paramount should really be ashamed at the poor job they suffered upon the fans of Star Trek.
I started shopping around and found to my surprise, that the German release of Voyager is about 110$ (95ˆ) and a much better buy. Firstly, the German edition comes with 6, not 5 discs, which include 2 Original Series episodes ("Arena" ST:TOS Ep.19, and "The City On The Edge Of Forever" ST:TOS Ep. 28), the first released ever on DVD. This, as far as I know, is not included in the US release. The box and packaging is also 1000% nicer, resembling that of the Next Generation Box Sets. This set also includes a much larger language selection, English, German, Italian, Spanish and French being all in Dolby 5.1.
So I give the US Release three stars and two thumbs down. The stars are for the content. The German Paramount's release gets five stars however. If you have a region free DVD player, or watch your DVDs on your computer, then you might want to consider going to amazon.de to buy your STar Trek Voyager Box Set. The extra postage is well worth the money...and in the long run, its not that much cheaper.

Summary: Too expensive
Review: So far i bought 5 seasons of Xfiles which was ridicusly priced like this dvd set. $97 marked from $129?? I can understand it being somewhere around $70 marked down to $50, these are tvshows should be no more then $5 per episode. But yet these companies are scamming us like gas companies are.. except you have to have gas to be able to drive around with. Still this and other star trek box sets are too overpriced. Most of us had already seen like every or at least majority of the episodes from Star trek. You might as well get a bunch of 8hr vhs tapes & tape the series since i believe they are still showing it, i cant even afford to get the rest of the xfiles series even though i want to get it badly. The original Star trek series is even worse.. only 2 episodes on each dvd set.. ridiculus.. anyways even though this is one box set that is unreasonably priced and i wont buy it until i see one under $50.. it is still a pretty good season for ST Voyager.. i think this is my fav series because it has more to it then TOS & TNG. Also it has a little more action in it as well.

Summary: The legacy continues!
Review: Having been a fan of Star Trek since its beginning on September 22, 1966, I'm glad to see the long tradition of the Star Trek saga, from Gene Roddenberry's original concept, continue with "Voyager"!

Having never seen any episode of Voyager until the release of Voyager Season One on this DVD package, I am pleased to say I'm quite satisfied with Voyager and its concept of the two diverse crews being thrown together under the same problem of being stuck 70,000 light years from the Alpha Quadrant and home.

I have to agree with others that called Voyager's pilot episode (caretaker) one of the best ever for a Star Trek series. The original Star Trek series opened in 1966 with Episode #2 (Where No Man Has Gone Before) and didn't show the pilot until the middle of the second season, as a two-part show called "The Cage". (unnoticed until years later was the mistake made in the original series opening episode where James T. Kirk's name was shown briefly as James R. Kirk on a headstone).

Being a person that grew up during America's first flights into space, during the 1960s, the original Star Trek was perfectly timed to exploit my vast and intense interest in space and space travel. With the introduction of STNG (Star Trek: The Next Generation) I once again was in hog heaven as Science Fiction is something I enjoy very much. The Star Trek series of shows, rather that be the original, STNG, DS9, or Voyager offers more than just good Sc-Fi, but good Science Hope that we as a planet survive the next 3 or 4 hundred years.

I found that the first season of Star Trek: Voyager is as good as either Star Trek (the original series) or STNG. My initial impression is that I believe I will probably like Voyager more than I liked DS9 (Deep Space Nine).

Bottom-line, if you like Star Trek and you like good Science Fiction, then I'm sure you'll like Voyager. Having well written stories and excellent character interaction is a Star Trek trademark and the first season of Voyager has an abundance of both.

Summary: Great content, lame packaging...
Review: I'm sure I don't need to extoll the virtues of the ST Voyager Series, my fellow reviewers have done that more than adequetly, but what I must comment on is the absolute pi$$-poor packaging of this box set.
A flimsy plastic sleeve with a poor man's digipack does not do this set justice, and for twice the price of Stargate box sets with have nice single tidy amray cases in a sturdy cardboard outer.
I was jumping the gun on the Australian release when I purchased this and was happy to be a few months ahead of everyone else here, but now I'll wait for the Aussie release of Season 1 next month and pray the packaging is a jolly sight better, well it can't be any worse... :)

Summary: great addition to my Star Trek collection
Review: Voyager started off strong with its solid first episode, Caretaker. It introduced a wonderfully diverse set of characters, Starfleet, Maquis, and others. We were also introduced to new aliens and enemies. The rest of season one offered a nice mix of stories with excellent development of the characters. The extras and featurettes are a nice addition to the DVD collection.
