Summary: The Greatest Film of all time!
Review: The City of Lost Children is absuloutely the greatest film ever made. From Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro comes a twisted fairy tale with a load of villains and heros. It bases in a strange, twisted, floating city. Where a carnival strongman takes a poor, homeless boy into his home. But the evil Cyclops that terrorize the city kidnap. That's when the adventure begins. He then goes searching for him and teams up with a small girl named Miette. Together, the strong man (One) and Miette. Go searching for the lost boy. They soon enter a strange underworld. Learning that a madman played perfectly by Daniel Emilfork, a Princess, and six bumbling, clumbsy clones are kidnapping childre because the madman(Krank) was created with the others by a perfessor and Krank can't dream. So now they kidnap children and steal their dreams. But all the children fear him and have nightmares. Krank soon buys One's child from the Cyclops and uses him in his master plan. Now Miette and One bind a relationship while two evil twins hunt them down, while meeting a strange scuba diver, a psychotic circusman, and the Cyclops layer. All of the adventure is jammed pack into one movie. It's my favorite, I can't take my eyes off of it. See this film! The Directors and great and also directed a similar film, Delicatessan.

Summary: This is a fabulous film!
Review: I bought this after watching a preview on another video. I was very pleased when I saw the special effects. The filming was masterful. I prefer the subtitles, because then I get the idea of the emotions the characters are portraying. A lot is lost with dubbing. This quickly became my favorite movie!

Summary: If you watch only one foreign film in your life...
Review: it had better be this one. A masterful film. All I wish is that I knew French, so I didn't have to endure the endless glances to the bottom of the screen for the subtitles ^_^

The other reviews have summed up the plot nicely, so I won't burden you with that. Let me simply say again that Ron Perlman is a great actor, whether in english or french. Also the Fleakins kick. hehe ;-)

In closing, if you can't afford this film watch Bravo a lot. They oughta get it on sooner or later :)

Summary: Yes, Urban Fairy-Tales Do Exist.
Review: The first time I heard of CITY was after I saw ALIEN: Resurrection (another neo-classic stoner fantasy); I wanted to see more movies by this young French director (or wherever the Deuce he's from). The title impressed me immediately.

THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN

How can you deny the appeal of such an interesting title? Even better, one of my favorite actors was in it: Ron Perlman, among the top five most versatile American actors. It was a year after hearing about the movie that I actually saw it; believe it or not: It was worth the wait.

Essentially, someone's stealing kids and when those someones steal the wrong kid, D'Henri, the "little brother" of circus strongman, Mr. One (Perlman), it sets into motion a series of events culminating into a beautiful street fairy-tale. It's got a group of child-thieves and a Siamese Twin ring-leader, a Mad Scientist and several clones, a disembodied brain and a midget wife, a group of blind zealots collectively known as the "Cyclops," hypnotizing fleas, and a little boy who can't stop eating. Who can resist all that?

Great color and surprisingly good special effects. It should come out on DVD, if it isn't already. (Hey, I'm talking to you, people who make DVDs. Whoever you are.)

Summary: what did they do to this film
Review: it's strange how it's possilbe to take a film with such beatiful visuals as this and destroy it with a third rate dubbing. dubbing is the spawn of all evil. this film was so much more efective in french even though i don't understand a word they say. the subtittles do it just fine. if you can get a copy of the subtittled film add two more stars to this review and fall in love with one of the most amazing films ever made. also check out delicatesen!!!!

Summary: Great French Film
Review: This is a great movie. It combines elements of goth, horror, and even a little sci-fi thrown in to boot. Some argue that the subtitled version is better, but i think this one is just fine.

Summary: Excellent, in both story and visual
Review: This movie has impeccable cinematography, characters, and plot: A mad scientist preys on the dreams of children; only the unlikely coupling of Miette, the street-smart child theif older than her years, and One, the strongman whose heart and courage compensate his own innocence, can save them from the dream stealing mad man. Getting in their way are the cyclops and the siamese twin sisters, Their savior? A brain alive in an aquarium. Check out the "flea" cinematography, the POV shots, and the perpetually dark settings: the film won't fail to draw you in.

Summary: Perfect.
Review: If you are a fan of the dark, future-retro cityscapes created by Terry Gilliam, you will love this film simply for its look. I think this may be the most beautiful film I have ever seen. But what makes this film so truly wonderful is the incredible way the filmmakers can bring the story across to the viewer without relying on dialogue; the story is told as much with the interaction between the characters, camera moves and angles, lighting and scenery than by the verbal communication between the characters, which means the performances by all the actors in this film is nothing short of perfect. It is an "art" film, with quite a twisted plot, so some cerebral activity is required to watch it, but you won't regret it.

Summary: The most original movie you will ever see
Review: This is probably one of the best movies I have evr seen. It's Edwardian sets and dark lighting add a chilling feel I've never experienced in a movie before, or scince. This just goes to show that the french are masters of cinema and americans are flashy amatures. Please spare you senses and avoid the dubbed version at all costs. The british voices ruined all of the intimacy between the characters, that were so compelling in french, even if you can't understand it. Do youself a favor and only watch the subtiled version.
