Summary: Fun, funny, and it rocks
Review: Some reviewers have foolishly taken this movie too seriously as if Disney were obliged to be 'realistic' and 'faithful to the material'. Hee, hee. Hey, they didn't coin the term 'Disney-fication' for nothing. Disney has their own agenda. And bully for them; they create uniquely American mythology.

And with Hercules, the myth takes the form of pop-culture and silliness wrapped around a nice message: the nature of true heroism.

I have a kid and I can only watch Sleeping Beauty and the Aristocats just so many times. Hercules is an underrated relief from that. The jokes hit many levels so the whole family can truly enjoy it together. (Maybe I shouldn't admit this but I still think referring to Thebes as the 'Big Olive' is funny.) And the Muses alone make the movie worth it.

I never regret having this video. It's just fun.

Summary: Did they even read the myth of Herakles first???
Review: (Hercules is Roman name...they use Greek names for everyone else. whoops. on of the MINOR mistakes) There's ONE, count it ONE thing right! good greif! Hercules had nothing to do with Pegasus, Hera was NOT Hercules' mother, and SHE was sending monsters after him. Paiun and Panic didn't exist, Phil didn't exist, The muses were too few and gospel music? sheesh gimme a break. Titans weren't eveil, Hades was NOT, repat NOT, Satan...I'm not even gonna go any further. This is horrible! if you even dabble in mythology burn this movie! (also-Hydra had 7 or 9 heads in myths (inconsitent, but not 3) Just stay away from this thing like it's the plague!

Summary: What the Heck?
Review: Now, I've based most of my life on the philosophy that Disney movies should not be taken seriously or even be analyzed except for face value. But, this was undeserving of that immunity. This movie sucked, plain and simple. The only likeable character in the film was Hades, and he was a far cry from what his character should have been. The rest were all one dimensional heros, do-gooders or comic relief characters. And the comdey wasn't very funny. Hopefully, it will not be remembered for anyrthing besides it's flaws.

Summary: the best cartoon, and not just for kids
Review: I love this movie a lot. It's creative, amusing and very funny. I was just curious as to where 'Freya', the goddess of love, beaty and fertility was. She was intwined with Hades somehow, I'm pretty sure. Actually, I'm positive because my name is Freya. Anyways, watch the movie. It's excellent.

Summary: A punny Grecian formula....
Review: I like this film better than a lot of Disney's more recent efforts because it's a total romp! Pocahontas and Mulan let their themes get the better of them, and Lion King was just a talking-animal story for kids (if not for Elton John's music, I couldn't sit through it at all!)

Hades was accidentally almost accurate, but steals the show anyway. (In true Greek myth, Hades was an unctuous conniver, though neither so energetic nor so power-mad.) It was a brilliant interpretation of the character, which was almost incongruous in this otherwise blandly characterized and two-dimensional vehicle for cheap gags and puns. Not that I don't like cheap gags and puns, though I do wonder how many little kids really catch things like "here kid, have some Grecian Formula" without extensive tutoring. The biggest disappointment for me, when forced to sit through this video, was that Hades doesn't get to sing. (James Woods is no Michael Crawford, but he CAN carry a tune without recourse to a bucket -- which is more than can be said for Mel Gibson, and they let HIM sing...)

The ending was a little, well, odd, but if you've already given Hercules a messiah complex, why not tangle him up with Orpheus, too?

I'd recommend this movie to anyone who likes puns, etc, but it's pretty campy, and most of the really good jokes sail right over all my godchildren's heads.

Review: Hercules is my favotrie movie, I have watched the video over a hundred times! And still every time that I see it I notice some little thing, and learn someting new about the video, or finally understand a subtle joke. It is Disneys best ever creation, absolutely perfect! 10 out of 10 every time!
