Summary: My kid can't get enough of this video!
Review: My 19 month old son simply loves this video. He's always asking to watch it. Personally, I thought it could have been better. My main gripe is that this video costs $24.49 US plus shipping. I bought it at Future Shop for $23 Canadian. If I had bought it through Amazon, it would have cost me $37 US including shipping. That's $52 Canadian! No wonder Amazon's stock is taking a dive.

Summary: Fantastic Animation, But Okay Plot
Review: "A Bug's Life" was not a disappointment. The graphics and animation were great no doubt. The plot sort of reminded me of the plot of "Three Amigos," in that the circus insects come to the anthill thinking that they're just there to act and entertain. The plot could have been better I think. But other than that this is not a bad movie. The outtakes in the end credits are pretty funny.

Summary: Beautiful disc and less offensive than Antz (for kids)
Review: This disc, although not anamorphic, is absolutely gorgeous in terms of picture quality. At times, it almost looks three dimensional. The colors are bright and clear and the textures and movement of the characters and their environment are simply stunning.The story line may be more simplistic than Antz, but for me, I would much rather have my kids watch this film. Antz has at least five instances of profanity and, to me, much more harsh images of violence (Stallone's character being worked over by the other soldiers and the ant army attacking the termite colony are two examples in Antz that are much more disturbing than any scenes in A Bug's Life). While other viewers have bemoaned the idea that the ants would go find "bigger bugs" to help them get rid of the grasshoppers, the end result is one in which this plan is not even carried out. The "bird" idea is the plan that is used and it is ingenious. My three year-old has seen both Antz and A Bug's Life (the former before I had seen it - I was surprised by the profanity) and he prefers A Bug's Life. It is lighter (literally and in the storyline) and more bouyant than Antz (which by the way is a great disc as well).

Review: My wife and I could not stop laughing and played the out takes over and over. If you have any appreciation of animation technology, then you are sure to rank this movie as one of the top in the field.

Summary: Good animation and good for a few laughs.
Review: This movie will probably be considered the showcase of Disney/Pixar computer animation until Toy Story 2 is released. I thought the animation was good, albeit a little unbalanced. It seemed like a large amount of detail went into creating the lush background scenery (which was very well-done), but the bug characters themselves were grossly lacking in detail. This may have been done simply to give the characters a more "cartoonish" look, but I don't think I've ever seen a blue four-legged ant in my life. But to be completely fair, I was impressed with the attacking bird (especially the realistic movements), and I was satisfied with the detail that was shown to the grasshoppers. This was obviously intended to be a comedy, and as such it has its hits and misses, but mostly hits. However, nothing really had me doubling over with laughter. The funniest parts of the movie, in my opinion, didn't come until the outtakes scenes in the closing credits, which I thought was a very novel idea, and one that I believe should be used more often. Overall, this is a fun movie to see, and despite a few minor quibbles I had with the animation, I recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a funny movie that the whole family can see.

Summary: "Bug's Life" Is Anything But Small Potatoes!
Review: This movie was breathtaking. Easily the most visually stunning film I've ever seen, the smooth computer animation amazed me to no end and pulled me into the world of the movie. The plot was good, the characters were so human that I often forgot they were bugs, and the humor flowed like cheap wine. I enjoyed the funny little Flintstone-ish ant versions of human things, like baseball caps, farm machinery, bars, cities, and such. I thought Dot was cute, and if poor Heimlich isn't the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, then someone needs to tell me what is! Every line out of that caterpillar's mouth was more side-splitting than the last, although all the very best ones had already been heard on commercials. I was so very proud at the end when he became "a beautiful butterfly" with wings smaller than the flea character! I don't know whose idea it was to make him overweight or have that thick German accent, but, my God, it worked! I give this movie my very highest reccomendation, and I'm sure you'll love it, too. By the way, the computer-animated short before it, "Geri's Game," is equally funny. If you find the funny little things old people do as amusing as I do, you're sure to like it.

Summary: Too much violence for a G rating. Wake up MPAA.
Review: Just because it was a cartoon from Disney, the MPAA gave it a G rating. I guess the violence doesn't matter. My 4 year old hated it because it was too violent. I thought the graphics were well done though. I also thought it was a cheap rip off of the Grasshopper and Ant story. There were funny parts, but not enough to convince me to buy it. So over all, great images and pictures, but the story line could have had less cruelty.

Summary: The Best Children's Movie Ever!
Review: Every since I bought this movie I can't put it down. I'm 17, but when I watch this movie I feel like a young child all over again. This movie was so wonderful, I had my 21 year old brother watch it who enjoyed it also. In the near future I hope Disney and Pixar collaborate and make a sequel to this movie. If you haven't purchased it yet, I suggest you do so before all the copies are bought!
