Summary: Re-Tread Plot
Review: There's really not much to say about this film. There were a few funny moments that had me laughing out loud, but overall the storyline itself is just awful. 2002's version of blackploitation. Lots of talented actors who should be working with material more worthy of their skills.

Summary: You're kidding me, right?
Review: This is a waste of film. I don't know what the NAACP Image awards were thinking when they actually NOMINATED this ..against Will Smith's "Ali" for Best Film of the Year.

This "film" stole from every black film that has come out from the last 15 years. From "Jungle Fever," to "Waiting To Exhale," to "Soul Food," "The Best Man," and "The Wood" to name a few.

Heck, the first 2 minutes of it came straight from "Boyz N The Hood." Morris Chestnut is running away from someone with a gun at his back. Sound familiar? I saw that scene when I saw it at the movie theaters two years ago. Let me tell you, I was so close from yelling "RICKY!" (ala Boyz N The Hood) when I saw the first two minutes.

The only person who's funny in it is D.L. Hughley. Bill Bellamy is supposedly the bad guy in the group, but if your character's own mother doesn't show you love, can you really blame the guy for not caring about women of any race?

It's a waste of film, videotape and DVD data.

And the only reason why I gave it one star because they didn't have a symbol for zero.

PLEASE DO NOT Watch this...not even on free cable.

Summary: Great DVD!
Review: When I saw the promos for this movie before it was released in theatres, I knew that I would really like this movie! It's a movie that has a lot to offer. A stellar cast, interesting storyline, drama, comedy and everything in between. It deals with the dynamics of four guys and their struggles with relationships from being single to being married. On the DVD side of things, this movie is entertaining enough to be able to watch over & over again, and not get tired of it. This is the most important thing when actually buying & not renting a movie.
If you like movies that deal with interpersonal dynamics with a little humour & drama thrown in, this movie will definitely not disappoint.

Summary: A Delightful film, brilliantly acted, superbly directed.
Review: When films aren't handed massive budgets, more effort is made to tell a story well. This is the case with "The Brothers". Gary Hardwick has done a superb job crafting multi-dimensional characters and putting them in an ensemble. Morris Chestnut is outstanding, but to single Chestnut out for special praise is to not convey how brilliant the rest of the cast is and how well and seamless they all blend together. It is the perfect ensemble piece and one that isn't found often, except with Black Cinema. Seeing this film, along with Soul Food, Booty Call and numerous other films carrying a Black or multi-racial theme, I am struck by the wonderful character development these films portray. In a way these films, along with many examples of World Cinema are cut from the same cloth - the focus on character - social interactions; people caught in the act of being themselves.

I will see anything any of this cast or anything Gary Hardwick does in the future.

Forget Mainstream Hollywood - the future is with this bunch!

Review: Went to see this move at the cinema, what a very good movie. If you haven't seen it yet, I personally recommend that this is a good'ne. 4 brothers altogether as one but they are so different. enjoy

Summary: Look, don't listen
Review: The brothers are gorgeous, but the acting is awful. I guess the writing could have been better. There are some funny scenes, but other than that, just look!!

Summary: The Brothers
Review: It was good to see a positive film about successful African American men. It was funny and insightful. Good movie.

Summary: OK movie, hated the ending
Review: So the bride holds up the brothers, she and her man make up, and everything's okay? Yeah, right. I would have committed my ex-fiancee to the crazy house. The rest of the movie was all right though. But whoever makes an African-American movie the next time, can you make it so it doesn't look like The Wood, The Best Man, Two Can Play That Game, Booty Call, Boomerang, and so on?

Summary: Great DVD-movie plus more
Review: First, let me emphasze the extra's on this DVD. There is the "Love Don't love me" music video, deleted scenes, and LOTS of commentary by the man who directed and WROTE the script. He comments on each and every actor, why they were cast, and where he was coming from in the story he tries to tell. He gives us insight into the things men think, but not always say, concerning women and their fears of committment. The whole movie, in my opinion, centers around the concept of three of the four "brothers" being single, around age 29 and not yet married or committed. As Morris puts it, "I don't have the excuse of being young and stupid." I do notice, that there is the underlying premise that being single is NOT a valid choice, and that all single guys are just looking for a piece of a**. Not so. I do have qualms with the lead couple sleeping together on the first date. Geez. This isn't a movie for kids ok...READ THE RATINGS! The role of the Mom and Dad is wonderful. They are well cast and full of wisdom from their mistakes. The four women in this movie are, at best, a little annoying, IMO. I kinda feel sorry for the guys a bit. It seems none of the women are very humble, but cocky and manipulative to get what they want, be it their way in bed, in the relationship, or the wedding they want so desperately. It's that "ain't no man gonna get over on me" attitude. The movie brings up EXCELLENT topics, and it is filled with much humor from D.L Hugley and his wife on screen, as well as from others. This is a great movie, with great music and lots of cool stuff on the DVD feature end of it. If you are like me, get ready for heated discussion about sociology when it's finished, and enjoy every minute of it!

Summary: A funny "R" Rated Comedy
Review: "The Bothers" is a comedy that deserves it "R" rating. If you a offended easily with strong language or "adult themes" this isn't a film you should watch. Those things aside this movie is very funny. It does a nice job of portraying African American families - especially men - in a positive, successful light, unlike many movies today. It is a movie that is very entertaining.
