Summary: It's about time
Review: I loved this movie and it is way past due for these two to be together again! Their chemistry is incomparable! Waiting for the next movie!

Summary: Best Roberts/Gere Movie I've seen!
Review: I love this movie! The truthness about marrage, and how it scares the best of us, and that the man who is right sticks with you, through all of your mess ups in life. And boy did I wanna hug Ike Graham when he stood up for Maggie Carpenter at the Party. This is truly a good movie

Summary: Bad 5.1 Sound Track
Review: The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound track sounds more like a 5.0 sound track: no audible LFE. The ProLogic track seems to be okay. Seeing as though I (as well as others) spent a fortune on digital sound with speakers, sub, etc. it seems a shame to have that low quality of a sound track on a recent dvd.

Summary: Runaway, far away....
Review: I have to say I am quite shocked at the number of five star reviews this movie has recieved. This is easily one of the worst that Hollywood has to offer. Don't get me wrong, I am always up for the no-brainer romantic comedy, however, this took the cake in full-on garbage. As a fan of Roberts and Gere, I am embarrassed they have chosen these roles which are now forever emblazoned on DVD. I found nothing interesting or remotely funny about a bride who skips the altar four or five times, and to make a movie of it! YUCK! I was tossing my cookies by the time Roberts moved to New York to sell her art, what was that all about? Well, buy it if you must, but don't say I didn't tell you so.....

Summary: Hugely disappointed!
Review: 2 stars because these ARE two of my favorite stars on film. I did enjoy Pretty Woman and was looking forward to seeing them together again. Maybe because my expectations were so high that the disappointment is so incredible. Pleaseeee, this movie felt like it was made up as they went along. Okay now we'll put in a couple of guys singing, now we'll show the horses again, now we'll have them playing cards, now... It was like instead of having a story to be told they started with just wanting to get these two actors together once again on the screen. A 2 hour long sitcom. And because I couldn't believe what I was seeing I guess I plumb missed all the jokes everyone else is talking about. Maybe they can try again in a couple of years.

Summary: Always a 'Brides'maid...
Review: The long-awaited reteaming of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Runaway Bride is a blandly pleasant affair, but could have been much warmer, or funnier. The premise of the film (a USA Today writer writes a slanderous, unresearched piece about a woman who has fled the altar 3 times, gets fired, and tries to redeem himself by proving the woman is as bad as he said she was) is far-fetched, even by the team that made Julia Roberts a 24-year old hooker with a heart of gold, in Pretty Woman.

Part of the problem is the miscasting of Richard Gere. His quiet underplaying was well-suited for the aloof businessman who learns to loosen up, in Pretty Woman. Here, however, he is supposed to be a free-wheeling, glib, 'Cary Grant'-type, and it's out of his range. He seems uncomfortable through much of the film. On the other hand, Julia Roberts gives her standard 'I'm so cute, but vulnerable' interpretation to the heroine (She is becoming as stereotyped in that role as Meg Ryan has become!) The role is poorly written until her father (well-played by the reliable Tom Dooley) reveals the weakness that created her indecision at the altar.

Once this revelation is revealed, the film SHOULD move along to a happy ending, but Gary Marshall throws in a contrived monkeywrench (in a CAMERA FLASH, of all things!), primarily to give Roberts a chance to show off how self-reliant she can become, and move the film from the pastoral Maryland settings to the big city ('Small Town Girl Makes Good!')

Pretty Woman had so much charm and chutzpah that you were rooting for Gere and Roberts to live 'happily ever after'. Sadly, in this film, you're rooting for them to marry, just to END this thing!

Better luck NEXT teaming!

Review: I don't know about all of you, but i absolutely LOVE julia roberts. notting hill was awesome, as was pretty woman and steel magnolias. i have to say that runaway bride ranks right up there with notting hill, my favorite movie of all times. it is so awesome and the chemistry of julia roberts and richard gere make this a truly awesome love story.

Summary: excellent!
Review: excellent film and great dvd! the only thing is that i wish there would have been more extra features on the dvd. having the dixie chicks video is ok,but having a "making of" featurette would have been even better. still in all, this is one of 1999's best movies and anyone wondering whether or not you should get the dvd: my advice is to get it!

Summary: Okay - I admit it. I'm a hopeless romantic and I loved it.
Review: I like romantic comedies and am realistic enough not to be shocked when they are somewhat predictable. That is part of their comforting appeal, just like you know that the murderer will be unveiled in every mystery novel. This movie also has likeable characters played by attractive actors. Yes, I did feel bad for the guys she left behind who still seemed to be mooning over her, but I could identify with certain aspects of why she was running. I think that is part of the appeal for me though. Modern movies often look at men with commitment problems and I find it nice to see that reversed. It was a light-hearted movie. I didn't expect depth or an answer to the meaning of life. Unlike quite a few of the reviews here, I prefer this movie to Pretty Woman. The prostitute Cinderella story in Pretty Woman rubbed me the wrong way. This one may not be the best romantic comedy ever made, but I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing it again. I plan on buying a copy as soon as the price drops. P.S. I like my eggs over-easy.

Summary: Close to home...
Review: As a fellow person who bolted from the altar once myself...I understood her pain when everyone incessantly teased her about it in the movie. Oh, if love and chemistry were only as easy as Gere & Roberts make it look! Dream on hopeless romantics!
