Rating: Summary: This movie STILL sucks Review: It's even worse now. I was one of the few people that thought 'Singles' was relatively decent, but Cameron Crowe lost all credibility with this sickeningly commercial movie. It's an insult to the history of cinema. Anyone that uses a runt with glasses as a cutesy prop deserves to end their days as a TV hack. This is the most amoral piece of exploitation since . . . Caligula. And further evidence that Cuba Gooding is strictly ham, not an actor.
Rating: Summary: Overrated? Perhaps. Good? You betcha! Review: I'm sorry... but this was a good movie. Was it earth-shattering? Life changing? NO. Was it worthy of an Oscar? Was it socially conscious? NOpe. But did it touch us??? Oh, yeah, baby! You complete me... Oh, my, goodness!! How many people on their first date that night ended up going further than they meant to??? Some terrific comedic moments as well--Tom Cruise closes the deal, he's riding on victory and he wants to blast the radio to something appropriate and what's on??? The slip and slide pace of Free Falling... Funny. A good movie. Not as good as the hype, but don't punish a film for its buzz.
Rating: Summary: Very Overrated but Good Movie Review: I am not a Tom Cruise fan. I was a child of the 80's and didn't like his films then and still do my best to run from them. J.M. was seen as a comeback for Cruise whose career had stalled since the early nineties. J.M. travels through Jerry's mind which left me asking the question why. Jerry wasn't the true center of the story so he shouldn't have been the center of the film. The supporting characters that Jerry surrounded himself with were the ones that brought us closer to Jerry's thoughts more than Jerry himself. A better title and narration from Cruise or Cuba Gooding Jr. would have added an extra spark to the vehicle. The supporting cast ruled the show and left Cruise in the dust. Tom's acting was bland and boring. He played Jerry like he didn't want to touch the role with a ten-foot pole. He wasn't believable because he seemed too young to be such a successful sports agent and Cruise doesn't have the persona of someone with such a fast paced life. In my opinion he was not the right choice for the film. This movie is packed with extra talent. Cuba Gooding Jr. had his breakout role here and his Oscar was well deserved. Rod Tidwell kept this film at its best. The movie should have been named after his character because he stole any hope Cruise had of claming J.M. as his star film. Kelly Preston is overlooked but good. Renee Zewellegger was another weak spot next to Cruise. Every time I saw her I asked the question why she was cast. Being a fellow Texan I think Renee's acting could have been better. She played Dorothy too giddy and she wasn't believeable as a single mother. Plus Renee and Cruise had zero chemisty and I fast forwarded every scene they were in together. Regina King was wonderful. She had sparks with everyone including Cruise and I wanted to see more of her on the screen. Jay Mohr is not someone I care for but he played the slimy sports agent part to the T. There were a lot of cameos from sports stars and actor Beau Bridges. The story was rather weak. The movie was way too long and there was no reason it had to be. A lot of footage wasn't necessary. We didn't need to see Jerry's bachelor party or every single client Jerry had. The movie went off base and should have stuck to the basis. The length was the biggest problem. This was a modern 90's film it didn't need to be this long. J.M. is a wonderful sports movie and you learn the football life and lingo fast. It was interesting to see the deals and the problems sports figures and their agents go through. The football game scenes were the best. They were realistic and kept up the momentum of the movie even when you felt it was dragging along. The love story was weak and not needed. When Dorothy and Jerry got married I totally gave up on Cruise and Renee's acting because it seemed like they were just rolling along with no point. J.M. brought a lot of talent to the big screen and is a pretty decent movie. It got hype for the wrong reasons. Instead of pumping up Cruise's timid performance the glory should have been given to the true star of the film, Cuba Gooding Jr. This is great for sports fans.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Great acting, great script. Has all sorts of emotions. An awesome movie that will make you smile, laugh and cry. The scene where Cruise and Zellwegger are on the front porch after their first date is the most sensual in cinematic history.
Rating: Summary: terrible Review: I really doubt whether I could dislike a movie MORE - one of my least favorite actors performing the role of a SPORTS AGENT (I really doubt if there could be any job that I could dislike more) in a movie that ends up becoming a terrible chick flick. This is the kind of sentimental drivel that must be expunged from our society forever. Granted, it tries to make some statements about personal growth, but it has been done before and better. This movie stinks.
Rating: Summary: show me the money Review: great movie which has one of Cruise's most great performances as the sportsman Maguire who falls in love with mom Zellweger(whos just so sexy) and her kid Lipnicki(funny kid). Cruise is dumped by Kelly Preston(watch her in that nude scene, oh boy) and is dumped by Jerry O'Connell because he switched to some other contracter. Cuba Gooding Jr.(fantastic, "show me the money") is assigned to him. emotions spill and tensions rise and this one is one of the best films of 1996, period. the highlight in the film involves where Cruise comes to Zellweger's house drunk and Lipnicki wants to go to zoo and he talks to Gooding Jr. on the phone(uproarous)
Rating: Summary: Jerry Maguire- One and One-Half Star Review: I must be crazy. I think Cruise is an excellent actor, and so are all the other participants in this movie. And the writing is pretty snazzy too. The problem is the plot is ridiculous. Evil agent suddenly becomes Good agent and then spends rest of the time up to no particular good, or much of anything. Also, young single mom QUITS JOB because Evil agent SUDDENLY announces he's good? Quits job so that rich evil agent who suddenly becomes poor can't pay her anymore after offering her job? I give up.
Rating: Summary: a+ Review: all the things are amazing although the beginning is so long and something even more worse, but that movie is not empty, there are somthing in it.
Rating: Summary: Not Enough Action Review: Jerry Maguire is not one of the greatest movies ever made it is just to slow and the plot is very dull. I have seen most of Tom Cruise's films and it's not like he's awful in this film or anything it just doesn't live up to Rain Man or A Few Good Men Tom Cruise acts much better in those movies. The Surrounding Actors were even worse and just how many people were in this movie there were so many characters I could not even keep track with the movie. The Film started out o.k I was even laughing at the beginning but I noticed this movie had odd humor when the child at the beginning said something very unsettling to Jerry Maguire. This movie towards the middle turns into this torturing bore it has sort of a chick flick pasted on it in which I had no idea this was a chick flick. Also towards the end I was not impressed at all. Jerry Maguire as a movie has very little going for it a bunch of whining actors and a bunch of out of shape greedy sports agents and some football player named Cuba Gooding Jr who is annoying from the start. What a yucky movie it's not my taste of a good film.
Rating: Summary: Must See! EXIT sign! Review: Complete garbage. Cliché directing, acting, romance, predictability, happy ending, bad character changing into a good one, everone overcomes greed to become a real happy family, a sad conflict where the family doesn't quite work out is quickly erased by the small resolution to the tiny conflict, and the worst part is the kid who is simply in the movie to draw "aww isn't that cute"'s from the audience. Just like every movie you've ever seen, and that is the main reason why I can't stand movies these days. Perfect chick flick for those mindless zombies who have no need to expand or stimulate their mind because they use it so infrequently anyways.
