Summary: Punch Drunk Love is a TKO in 10 Rounds!
Review: Punch Drunk Love is not for the faint of Heart, the easily offended, or chick-flick dwellers. But, if you are open to an art-house left-of-center form of entertainment, you might want to add this to your library. We saw this movie a week ago in Australia and we are searching an American website to see about ordering it because it isn't going to come out on video in Australia for a while.

Some of the fantastic direction in this film involves the use of sound. Sounds are amplified to the extreme. Absurdity is magnified.

It's supposed to be adam's break into drama. I for one laughed all the way through it, at least on the inside. I felt bad for Adam's protagonist character but his situations were hysterical. We have been quoting the line about the sledgehammer ever since.

Anger Management, with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, is a perfect film and we will own that one too but Punch Drunk Love ought to be a cult classic along the same genre as Harold and Maude starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon.

Summary: Tennessee?
Review: " This is the worst movie I have ever seen, May 19, 2003
Reviewer: A viewer from Tennessee USA
This movie was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. Please do not spend any money to see this movie. You will surely regret it for all of your days"

The above reviewer is from Tennessee...do we have to say any more? In the words of Bill Hicks, "In many parts of our troubled world people are yelling 'Revolution, Revolution!' In Tennessee they yell 'Evolution, Evolution!...we want our thumbs!'

Summary: Another Masterpiece
Review: Punch Drunk Love is like every other piece of art worth it's salt..... Most people will hate it. This is the least accessible of PTAnderson's films, but perhaps his best. It is a great ombination of his unique style of speed and intensity in a film, whil also bringing a new emphasis on his characters and less on events. It is tighter and more succinct that Magnolia, and sufficiently darker than Boogie Nights. And PTAnderson again puts brilliant actors (Hoffman and Guzman)in his supporting roles. The only bad thing abut his movies is that it takes him two years to put another one out. Enjoy!

Summary: More praise for Punch-Drunk
Review: Some people here are claiming you have to be intelligent to enjoy this movie. Thereby implying that those who dislike it are imbeciles. Some PTA fans are way too full of themselves. All too common in the world of the fashionably underground.

Not that the "worSt movie EVER" comments make any attempt to establish a valid argument, but a lot of people are genuinely frustrated by this movie.

I think your life experiences will dictate how you react to Punch-Drunk Love. It's not a conventional comedy. There aren't any setups... not obvious Sandler-esque ones, anyway.

I think too many people are waiting for the standard setup & payoff gags while wonderful little moments are happening all around them. There are no formulas here that you can figure out before the payoff happens, and that's a negative thing for some people. It will probably seem like a very disorganized movie to lots of people. Have they been jaded by 'Hollywood', or is it simply not their thing?

Without a doubt, Punch-Drunk is my 2nd favorite movie of all time. Sophisticated isn't the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind (thanks, Chuck!). I love PTA's writing and I hope he gets to continue making movies for a very long time.

Summary: A true origional
Review: This movie is new, a separate genre that is as interesting as it is strange. I enjoyed this movie because there was no way I could relate to Adam Sandlers character. Watch him evolve was one of the funnyest, most inspiring things I have ever seen.

Summary: Sandler Should Do More of this Kind of Stuff
Review: Most of the bad reviews that you will see of this movie come from the people who came to see the stupid humor of a typical Sandler film but were shocked to see (gasp!) AN INDEPENDENT FILM! In this movie, Sandler shows that he can do more than just stupid slapstick with Steve Buscemi and the two gay guys from Big Daddy.

The reason behind its brilliance is that it's not really an "Adam Sandler Movie." In all of the other films that he is in, he writes and produces among other things. In this film, Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights) is doing the work behind the camera. Unfortunatly, after I loved this movie Sandler suckered me in to seeing the god-awful 8 Crazy Nights (I had to see it because my friend dragged me to it).

However, you can expect the typical (very few) problems of a PT Anderson film in this movie. The independent filmmaker's product comes off a little too independent at times when the point of the film becomes vague and lacks direction. It's also very weird (but for a movie like this, that's a good thing).

In the end, it's a satisfying film and one of 2003's (a very bad year for cinema) best. Just don't expect the crude excrement jokes that you (the idiotic film-goer) laughed at in 8 Crazy Nights.

Summary: I have to laugh at some of these people
Review: I've noticed how most of the reviews for this film are either 5 stars or 1 star. There are the stupid people who don't understand the film, so how can they appreciate it? And there are the people with taste who understand P.T. Anderson, and how important this film was for him to make.

This film is touching and real. Definately worth seeing.

Summary: hilarious
Review: Weird, yes -- original, yes -- but most importantly, wildly entertaining from start to finish. Walking out of the theater, I didn't know what had hit me. I'm not a big fan of "Adam Sandler movies" (or even particularly of P.T. Anderson movies), but this was hilariously funny and just stone-cold excellent.

Summary: This.....is a masterpiece
Review: I was breathtaken by this movie. It was simply one of the ten greatest movies I've ever seen. Sandler is superb acting as the lead in this film, the script is terrific, and the directing is the greatest I've ever seen. This is not a typical Sandler film, so don't see it with that kind of expectation. But definitely see it.
