Summary: I NEVER EXPECTED IT
Review: I never expected it to be so mean, not with Capshaw and Selleck on it and DREAMWORKS backing it up ...A comedy that does'n't make you laugh, characters personal troubles that you don't care at all, ambiguous ending, poor start, weak script. My God, this wouldn't even be possible to watch in a theater !!

Summary: Highly amusing
Review: I personally found this movie to be highly entertaining and enjoyable. If you are looking for a light-hearted, romantic movie, this is for you. If you are looking for an intense film that requires a lot of inner-thought, you will be disappointed. This film portrays life in a small, New England town and it's quite charming.

Summary: So dull...
Review: I remember seeing the advertisement for this movie and couldn't wait to see it. I finally watched it last night and could not believe how slow and boring it turned out to be. I generally like movies that are slow and have very little action, but this was just too much. I guess my greatest disappointment came from the fact that it was such a good storyline and it was hard to believe that someone could do so little with it. I'd like to see another director take the same plot and develop it into a more interesting story. It just seemed that there was so much more that could have been done here.

Summary: Alright movie, but not what I expected.
Review: I rented the movie because I really like Kate Capshaw and Tom Selleck.

The movie basically involves 6 characters, 4 who find the love letter and think it's meant for them, the other 2 being the writer and recipient. It sounds like the makings of a good movie, romantic and funny, it isn't!

Usually movies have a leading man and/or lady that the story revolves around and this movie isn't any exception. The first woman who finds the letter starts fantasizing about who it could be from. Then another person finds it and thinks it's from her.

At this point I'm thinking the movie would start getting interesting. Maybe another person would find it, then another and so on until you had a town of people thinking all different ways, twisting the story line and giving you some laughs along the way. Nope that didn't happen.

Yes a few more people found the letter and thought it was for them, but no story unfolded. It was just scenes of them finding the letter, taking up time and making the movie go on longer. As a matter of fact, you never seemed to get involved with the main character(s) let alone any of the others who found the letter. At the end of the movie I felt as 'close' to the town policeman (he has a few minor scenes) as the main characters.

To sum it up, the movie had a good idea, but it never developed it to any potential. There was no great storyline, if there even was one! The characters never gave you a chance to feel anticipation, excitement, or any other emotion. I would not recommend this to anyone, rent a documentary instead.

Summary: A GOOD MOVIE!
Review: I seldom watch a whole movie in one sitting, but this film is an exception. First of all, it's not really a comedy, although it has its moments. It's all about romance, and a surprise ending. The acting is excellent. It's nice to see Tom Selleck in a sensitive, non-action role. He's pretty good! The pacing is excellent: the movie stays interesting from start to finish. You really get involved with the characters. Ellen plays a STRAIGHT role, and she gets a lot of you-know-what, but it's done is a nice, humorous fashion. In closing, if you like GILLMORE GIRLS, or romance novels, or just interesting SLICE-OF-LIFE drama, get this one--and don't believe the bad reviews:THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE, AND WELL WORTH ITS LOW COST.

Summary: Crap
Review: I'm sorry but this movie is easily the worst that I have ever seen. One would have thought that the several well known cast members would have read the disgustingly boring script before agreeing to to the film. This movie should never have been made and what's more, it should never be watched. If you want romantic comedy, you're better off going with "Dumb and Dumber" at least that film had some redeeming humor.

Summary: LOVE WHAT ???
Review: I've got nothing against comedies. Nothing against dramas. Nothing against Kate Capshaw. But, boy, what a tragedy this movie is !! The director was sleeping, I guess, or his paycheck wasn't enough for him to make the whole cast to erally act !! Everything goes wrong from the word " go", except the first five or ten minutes. after that, it's a demonstration of everyhting that should not be made in a comedy ( or whatever this movie is ).

Summary: Very Little Love In This One
Review: If you were to watch a romantic comedy called The Love Letter, you might expect to find some love in it. Or some romance. Or comedy. There was a small amount of sadness and melancholy for the hopeless romantic, but little else. The theme had much more potential than what was accomplished with it. This movie seemed somewhat disconnected and had only a couple moments of true lucidity; where it made brief glimpses at the most honorable and pure principles of love. But, even those moments were illustrated not with examples of it, but rather with examples of unrealized, un-pursued, or unrequited love. A much stronger movie would have resulted by slimming the cast and concentrating more on those very few glimpses into true love; even that love lost or unattained when human or spiritual frailty grasps unsuccessfully at it. The main character's "affair" brought about by the mysterious, poor excuse for a love letter only proved the hatefulness of "making love" absent love. It brought no insight into the emotional operations of a lonely woman whose emotions are awakened by the possibility of having found her "true love." Ultimately, I found myself walking away wondering, "Where was the love in The Love Letter?"

Summary: A Gem on the SMALL screen
Review: In the mood for a "chick flick", I saw this in the theater. On the large screen, this seemed insignificant and silly. I gave it another chance as a rental and found it to be wimsical and sweet. The summer mood is delightfully captured where you could almost feel the sea air. The second time around, in a smaller context, this is a lovely story. Ellen DeGeneres is great in this. Kate Capshaw looks beautiful, Blythe Danner is excellent, as always, in her small role and Tom Selleck is still a hunch after all these years. A lazy Sunday movie!
