Summary: A Surprisingly Charming Film.
Review: MAID IN MANHATTAN is a film with a heart. It had the energy and momentum of a gentle roller coaster that seemed fairly predictable but pleasantly performed. Ralph Fines (Red Dragon, The Avengers) gives a standout performance in this feature and he is extremely believable and very likable. Jennifer Lopez (Selena, The Wedding Planner, Antz) gives a sincere performance as well but makes Ralph look that much better.

Another little shinning star in the film is Jennifer's son played by Tyler Posey (Collateral Damage, Doc) who really performs well and makes a real attempt at tugging at your heartstrings. He is funny and energetic.

Directed by Wayne Wang (The Joy Luck Club, Smoke) the film takes an honest look at race, class, income status and the reality of people and their stereotypes of others. It has great funny bits and a real emotional ending too.

This is a great positive film for the whole family. Everyone should enjoy this sweet chocolate center at the middle. (12-31-02)

Summary: A Beautiful Dream
Review: This movie is such a cute and funny movie. The story line is what every woman or man for that matter would love to have happen to them. Just because this doesn't happen all the time, does not mean that people should not dream that one day it could
happen to them. Really it is not to far fetched. Jennifer Lopez grew up in the Bronx and is now marrying one of the hottest men alive. So have hope. It could happen. What a refreshing movie to watch after a long day of stress and BS.

Summary: Sweet, but too sweet?
Review: Maid in Manhattan was quite a cute movie. Overall it was very sweet, but it left me with a bit too much sweet. I do recommend it though for anyone in the mood for a cute, saccharine sweet love story

Summary: You've Got It Maid!
Review: THis was a nice little film. Never taxing on the brain but I was happy to see some truew character development that seems to be lacking in many romantic comedies that my wife drags me to. Jennifer Lopez does a fine job of shedding her public persona and helping us to believe that she is STILL from the block. She looks stunning in this film. Yes my wife and I predicted the entire plot in the car on the parking lot before we went in but we knew what we were in store for. It was a cute, fun little movie. I would reccommend it.

Summary: Great Movie!
Review: I have to say, I came to this movie with mixed feelings-I was sure it would either be a predictable little ditty with a forseeable ending or a charming, great-feeling film that would be worth my time and money. It was the latter. While I don't exactly care for Jennifer in her singing ability (or her fake singing ability), she is still excellent and charming as Marisa, or should we call her Maria? She is just so lovable you are rooting for her to have happiness the whole time. You are really able to put yourself in her shoes. Ralph Fiennes is excellent as well as a womanizing politician (forget his name-wasn't too interested in it) who falls head over heels for Marisa. The boy who plays her son is also excellent, and he plays the role believably, he won't strike you as the son of some rich person involved with the film who was able to get him shoved in, the kid is talented. Also excellent are Natasha Richardson as the annoying but hilarious Caroline and her companion played by the fantastic Amy Sidaris who is even more annoying and even more hilarious. She really hates Marisa just because of her nationality: "Why are you asking her, she can't even speak English!". The maids who work in the hotel and are friends of Marisa are excellent as well. Everything in this movie works out just perfectly. You will be very glad you went to see it.

Summary: Maid In Manhattan Made To Entertain
Review: If you've seen the previews you've probably guessed how this story will go and how it will end. But don't let that deter you from seeing this light romantic comedy that entertains thanks mainly to the acting of Jennifer Lopez and her chemistry with her on-screen son played by young Tyler Posey. Her scenes with handsome Ralph Fiennes are chastely romantic as Cinderella heads steadfastly toward "happily ever after" with a minor glitch along the way. The minor characters are all great, though none achieve the level of comedy you feel they are capable of reaching. Still, this tale of mistaken identity and a love that crosses social and economic class lines is a pleasant way to spend an hour or so escaping the freny of the malls during the holidays.

Summary: Great Music, much from the 70's
Review: Marisa, is a good person. She's genuine. While she appears to hold high morals standards as a mother, she is gently lured into the temptation to "misrepresent" who she is. The consequences are fun for the viewer.

Summary: "It's perfect."
Review: No, not the movie, silly. It's what Ralph Fiennes' aspiring politician thinks of Ms. Lopez' derriere. There are many such flatteries paid to the star actress in *Maid in Manhattan* -- in fact, that's not even the only reference to J-Lo's celebrated backside. (Considering that it's insured by Lloyd's of London, direct recognition of that part of her anatomy might be stipulated in her film-contracts.) There's been a lot of speculation about how this movie will do financially: will J-Lo be the next Julia Roberts? Will it make as much money as *Pretty Woman* did? Et cetera. Not surprisingly, there's been much less speculation about whether or not the movie is worth seeing. That's because no one, except for Ms. Lopez and her coterie of agents and assistants, cares. Who really wants to see another modern-day Cinderella? *Maid in Manhattan* brings nothing new to the table. Attempts to be "different" (we're told Lopez' son is "gifted", despite the lack of solid evidence; the leading man is a Republican instead of a Democrat) come across as exactly that, and are time-consuming distractions more often than not. And even if you're prepared to dispense with originality, the movie still fails to charm. Lopez' character, a single-mom maid working in a 4-star New York hotel, MUST have a large group of fans (there is no other word) cheering her on, from the management to the security guards to her (naturally) less-attractive fellow housekeepers. One of these even writes up a job application for Lopez, the idea being that if Lopez advances to management at the hotel, it will strike an empowering blow for the new generation of struggling Latinas everywhere. Of course, the movie never considers that this character would want to try out for the promotion herself -- only Lopez must be allowed credit for changing the world. Then there's the scene where all her co-workers drop what they're doing in order to drape J-Lo with borrowed diamonds and designer clothes, just so that she can have a hot date with Prince Charming. Why? Because everyone loves her! (The original Cinderella, not as perfect, was obliged to ask for supernatural aid.) The flattery paid to this overpaid actress eventually sickens the viewer. Ralph Fiennes' milquetoast romantic lead, who spends much of the movie trying to tug himself away from Stanley Tucci -- rather like a mailman dragging along a small, yapping dog that's clamped its jaws onto a trouser leg -- doesn't provide an analgesic for your discomfort.

Summary: Lots of fun!
Review: JLo was great! I liked the movie a lot because she protrayed a true latina living in the U.S. So many people assume that you don't know how to speak English or even choose to call you a typical name like "Maria" just because you look Hispanic. It was also great to see that a "Hispanic girl" did something with herself even going against her own mother's [wishes]. The kid is great and also shines light on Hispanic kids who are bright. So many times our Hispanic kids are protrayed as having learning disabilities or even having difficulty speaking English---Marissa's boy is not only very smart but also an outstanding public speaker. All in all this movie is great for the whole family! I give it a very high two thumbs up.

Summary: Fairytale
Review: MAID IN MANHATTEN is a fun and cute movie that people will most likely enjoy. Jennifer Lopez plays Marisa, single mother and a maid at a posh hotel. She does anything her guests ask her to do, many errands, and cleans and such. One time with her co-working pal, she decides to try on these expensive clothes that one of her guests wants her to return. This is where Ralph Fiennes comes in as a famous politician who is swept away by her beauty and pursues her. She is conflicted between telling the truth about who she really is, or living out this fairytale with him. It's a humorous movie that is sure to make you smile, well paced and definately worth seeing. The acting is superb, Jennifer Lopez once again shines on the silver screen, and its refreshing to see Ralph Fiennes in a role like this, unlike any of his other roles. Think of this movie as an updated version of CINDERELLA. Overall it's a cute fun movie, definately worth viewing.
