Summary: Very enjoyable movie
Review: I thought the movie most enjoyable and refreshing, although my partner found it a little slow at times. It gave some hope that there was more to life than just a one night stand.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Overrated, insulting, and surprisingly racist
Review: The upsides of the movie: A good-looking cast, JP Pitoc's body, not bad acting, a hella funny restroom scence with a bitter drag queen, and a lead character that is not completely secure but not completely dorky--almost life-like in his plasticity in fact.
The downsides of the movie: Heavily stereotyped gay characters, unbelievably caucasian New York City, a lead character that seems to be no better than the sex-crazed teenagers in movies like "Porky's" or "American Pie" with none of the redeeming value of at least being funny or finding some depth by the end of the movie. The worst downside? JP Pitoc's character being the worst kind of latino gay stereotype (stripper, possible prostitute, super well-hung, lives at home, closeted, and almost nymphomanical) seen in some time. The fact that he is given no inner life save his sexual attraction to the well-written lead (white) character only points out the subtle and poisonous racism in this film.
Which will not disappoint anyone who only wants a light as air comedy about how a geeky but cute midwestern white guy manages to land the hot New York stud.

Summary: ok
Review: Dorky guy gets the ideal go go boy. Yes the go go boy was hot but.. this movie just was missing something, like how and why did they dive into a "relationship" so quick, and that chick from 90210 as a lesbian or something, oh please! Spare Me.

Summary: Trick - A must see for gay men
Review: I rented this movie to watch with my boyfriend and highly recommend it. The characters were very interesting, likeable, and humerous. It was nice to see gay men end up in a meaningful relationship and portrayed in a more favorable fashion. It is hard to find love stories that are homosexual based. Coco was hysterical and to this day the phrase "IT BURNS" will forever bring a smile and laugh to our faces.

Summary: AN ALL AROUND GOOD MOVIE
Review: i cannot see how anyone could dislike this movie. i say this because it seems so realistic, almost. i really think that it shows the gay lifestyle in a positive spotlight but a realistic one as well. because in reality there are the hook-ups that happen by just a glance and having just met the person. yes gay men frequent clubs and dance the night away. why try to hide it because everyone knows that it is there. but it also showed that these gay guys are just like anyone else trying to make it in the world. and just like everyone else they are looking for love and a relationship. the whole movies centers around gabriel and mark looking for a place to have sex. but everytime they think they can something happens. so throughout the whole night they go on an adventure with each because there was an instant attraction and needs that needed to be fulfilled. throughout the cousre of the night they find out more about each other and then it turns into something more than a physical attraction. i think that they start to connect on a whole other level. i think that this movie is a little inspiring because it is so positive. i dont find anything negative to say about it. the movie was really fun for me. i suggest it for watching anytime.

Summary: Surprising
Review: I found this DVD hidden in the shelves of a video store at the mall, and I couldn't decide whether to buy it because I didn't know whether it would be worth the price, but I stopped being frugal for a second and purchased the DVD, and I was pleasantly surprised. The movie started out well, I wasn't entirely convinced that I would enjoy a movie about a one-night stand, but after the film was finished, I found it to be sweet, funny, and really very good. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is up for a unique romantic comedy with an edge.

Summary: Warm and adorable film
Review: I vaguely recall when this film was released in 1999. It had a brief run in the theatre and disappeared. I ran across it in a video rental store and took it home. I loved it. I bought it and it is one of my favorite dvds.
It's basically about a young Broadway hopeful songwriter who meets a young guy in a bar and later on a subway. They decide to have a one night fling. The songwriter (Christian Campbell) has a straight roommate who is bedding his girlfriend. Campbell and J.P. Pitoc, the guy he picked up, roam the streets of New York looking for a place to make out. A whole series of hilarious and touching misadventures plague them. Tori Spelling is a talentless actress who is Campbell's best friend. The scene in the diner is worth the movie alone. Jim Fall's impeccable direction. and the wonderful performances of Campbell and Pitoc make this a must see film. The ending is quite predictable but that is a small price to pay for this little jewel.

Summary: Adorable
Review: This is a charming look at two young men, basically looking for a place to have sex and being thwarted repeatedly. J.P. Pitoc and Christian Campbell are great leading actors, and performances by Tori Spelling and Coco Peru are perfect complements. What's sweet is the process in which the two men learn they like each other's company without the need to "trick" though still maintaining the sexual tension. The film made me miss New York a lot.

Summary: my first gay dvd purchase
Review: i hate clutter and i don't often buy movies that take up space and need to be dusted every so often if i know i won't be watching them many, many times in the future. having said that, i'll add that i own "trick." i first rented "trick" from the local video store and fell in love with the story and the people. i knew that this would be one i'd watch over and over again, particularly certain parts like the hysterical monologue by drag queen coco peru. on days when i'm feeling a little low, that scene always brings a smirk to my face. now, i don't find tori spelling as funny or endearing as some other reviewers do --like the drag queen says, "call me crazy, i dunno..." but in purchasing this flick on dvd, it's a piece of cake to skip any parts you don't care to see. my advice is this: rent as many gay movies as your video store has to offer first and, if one makes you feel good about yourself and has a scene or two that make you feel you must own it afterwards then get it and enjoy. for me, "trick" definitely fell into this category, and it's part of a short list of movies i think it's worth while for me to own. after you watch it, maybe you'll feel the same way too. there are a lot of mediocre, or just plain bad, gay movies out there, but trick isn't one of them. it's clever, sexy, funny and honest by turns and worth your attention.

Summary: A Different Approach
Review: Gabriel is an aspiring Broadway songwriter. He's suffering from a bad case of writer's block and, on a whim, decides to get out for the night by visiting a gay bar. He eyes Mark, a hunky go-go dancer, but doesn't think he'd ever stand a chance with him. When he runs into the dancer again later that night on the subway, Gabe is shocked when the guy hits on him. The two rush back to Gabriel's apartment where they are soon interrupted by the arrival of Gabe's overbearing roommate, who kicks them out so he can be alone with his girlfriend.

Gabe and Mark spend the rest of the night desperately trying to find somewhere to finish what they started in Gabe's apartment, bouncing from spot to spot and being foiled at every turn. Gradually, as they get to know each other better, they begin to realize that they may have something deeper than a casual fling.

Trick takes a different approach to the gay-themed romance movie. The entire movie takes place in a single night, while the main characters, Gabriel (Christian Campbell) and Mark (Jean Paul Pitoc), try to find somewhere to have sex. Tori Spelling does a great job in her supporting role as Katherine, Gabe's best friend, an aspiring, but awful singer and actress. It's a good movie, well acted and scripted, very enjoyable. It may not be great cinema, but it's a great way to pass a couple hours. Recommended.
