Review: This is an innocuous and mildly amusing remake of a 1967 comedy formerly starring Dudley Moore. Since I haven't seen the original, I will comment on this film on its own merits. The story is a lighthearted Faustian parody where a geek named Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser) sells his soul to the devil (Elizabeth Hurley) in exchange for seven wishes. Consistent with the maxim, "Be careful what you wish for", Elliot's wishes bring him numerous unintended and droll consequences.

Harold Ramis has written and directed some classic comedies ("Animal House", "Caddyshack", "Ghostbusters", "Groundhog Day"), but this material comes nowhere near the standard set by his earlier films. The film is a showcase for Brendan Fraser, who is funny, but not hilarious.

Fraser's performance is hit or miss. Some of his portrayals are very humorous and some fall flat. He is better when he is playing the sincere buffoon than when he is trying to render some bizarre caricature. Not much is asked of Elizabeth Hurley ("Austin Powers") by this screenplay. She needed to be beautiful, sexy and naughty, which isn't much of a stretch for her. Frances O'Connor ("Mansfield Park") has an equally undemanding role as Elliot's love interest, being more of an object than an integral part of the film. Some of the funniest performances are given by the supporting actors especially Orlando Jones and Paul Adelstein.

This film is good for some light entertainment. I rated it a 6/10. There are worse ways to spend an hour and a half.

Review: "Bedazzled" was a definite fun movie for me, but without the presence of the charismatic, truly dynamic Liz Hurley, this film would have been valueless.

The plot is minimal, but in a sort of tv sitcom way, holds your interest. Brendan Frasier plays Elliot Richards, a geeky guy who just wants to be liked and win the girl of his dreams.

The casting of Allison is a major problem, as is her acting, and detracts from the film's value.

Also odd is the large number of stereotypes perpetuated in this film-like Columbian drug lords, broadway loving gay people and much more. But it wasn't offensive, merely ignorant.

But I digress, this film is a reasonable comedy, and decidedly entertaining!

Summary: Fresh Re-Make of an Old Original...
Review: Brendan Fraser is one of those rare talents that follows the cliche never judge a book...Prime example is his serious,normal facial expression and goliath frame.I used to think comedy was only for the short little funny looking guys.As for Elizabeth Hurley, what was Hugh thinking when he traded her in for 5 minutes of a cheap trist with Ms. Brown ?!!!She's drop dead gorgeous and perfect in every physical aspect and is also extremely intelligent.Her English accent,well, to be honest, I've never heard any British actor make it sound so hot as she does. Hurley is definitely loaded with class...

The different alternate lifestyles that are led by Fraser's character through the wishes the devil grants him are portrayed with typical Fraser antics (bug eyed-expressions, physical jumping around, etc.).And he's damn good at it. The comedic chemistry and timing between Hurley and Fraser are perfectly up to par; there is no mismatched casting of these two actors.

Same character story and plot as in the 60's original version (only with more visual verve and flair with Hurley's presence);He gets his wishes.However, the drawback is that there are consequences or "minute" overlooked stipulations that he forgets to wish for each time.It's sort of a toying mind game/contract clause the devil uses as part of having the upperhand.The only drag is the low keyed humble ending . For some reason, I kept on expecting the film to end with a big bang or funny twist;it doesn't. Still, Bedazzled does merit a lot of funny characters and unexpected twists within each idealistic lifestyle sub-story of the main character's wishes...

Review: I went to see this movie the day it came out. The theater was almost empty. All of the funny parts in this movie were given away in the previews and they wern't even that funny. I walked out of the movie after about 45 minutes. This is the first time I have actually wished the projector would catch fire and burn the tape. It was AWFUL.

Review: A good, laugh-out-loud remake of 1967 film. Although I like Fraser in "George Of The Jungle" and "Dudley-Do-Right," this part seems more suited to him, because he's more quieter and in a weird kind of way, more funnier. Hurley is practically perfect for playing The Devil, sexy looks and all. All in all, this movie is more funnier than the stupid-jokes-inclined lines from "George Of The Jungle" and the thorough silliness of "Dudley-Do-Right." A perfect comedy. Rated PG-13 for language and sex-related humor.

Summary: A good time, but you might want to rent it first...
Review: Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley star in this comedy in which Fraser sells his soul to the Devil (Hurley) in exchange for seven wishes. The movie consists of sequences in which Fraser is living out each of his wishes. These sequences are VERY FUNNY at first, but they get less and less funny as they go on, to the point where they get tedious. When I saw this in the theatre, people's laughter decreased as the movie progressed because some of the "punch lines" are out of place. This movie has its moments, but it's not 100% funny. They also slap on a cheesy moral ("never wish to be somebody you're not," which would be Okay for a family film, but this is rated PG-13). If you are attracted to Elizabeth Hurley, buy this. Otherwise, watch it before you buy it. Overall, it's a good time to spend two hours.

Summary: A One Joke Screenplay with a No Joke Ending.
Review: Brendan Fraser's Brilliant Comedic Timing and Elizabeth Hurley's Adequet Comedic Timing save this film from being a Comedy Dead Zone. Harold Ramis' films (especially "Multiplicity", "Analyse This" and "Groundhog Day") have always been more than just "Good-for-a-laugh" comedies. Unfortunately, that is Exactly what this film, and thats fine, but with Ticket Prices as high as they are, you may want to wait for Video and DVD.

There are a few Laugh out loud moments and Liz gets into a few great outfits, but all-round, the laughs are few and far between. As for the ending.. Well, it is nearly a movie killer. The Laughs stop dead, for nearly the last half an hour, and that is unacceptable. It is a silly, calculated, contrived and downright stupid ending that makes you forget all the good stuff before it.

If you are a real fan of the stars, see it and leave when theres half an hour to go, you'll have a much better impression of the film.

Review: Elizabeth Hurley is absolutley Incredible as The Devil. I'm glad The Devil never came to me, dressed like this! Hang onto your souls Boys 'n Girls.... She defines the word "Temptation."

Brendan Fraser is terrific, as a Geeky guy who just wants to have some friends and a certain girl that makes his heart flutter.... His adventures begin with a wish that sends him on a transformational quest (and, oh, how Funny those transformations are!). I watched it, first, at the movie theater, on the big screen...mesmerized by the story and the special effects. I do not want to spoil anything, so I will simply say this: I smiled throughout the entire film! When I left the theater, I had a big, goofy grin plastered on my face....
