Summary: 4 star movie with 5 star appeal and fun
Review: This is the follow up movie by "Savage" Steve Holland to his 1985 movie -- "Better Off Dead." I have to admit that of the two, "Better Off Dead" is the one I like more, but "One Crazy Summer" certainly has it's moments.

In this film John Cusack plays a newly graduated HS student who never met his folks' expectations as a basketball player. All he really wants to do is to go to art school. In order to get a break from his folks he takes off with his buddy for a summer on Nantuckett. There he meets up with a young Demi Moore who is trying to find a way to save her granfather's home. Thus, the set-up.

Cusack is looking for love, but can never seem to find it. Teen trauma if ever there was one. With that all brewing in the background we meet a suite of characters who make the show flow along, and who provide lots and lots of comic relief.

You'll love the Stork twins and Ack-Ack, and you'll love to hate Teddy, an incredibly spoiled brat, and Teddy's equally detestable father.

It's a good-guy bad guy movie, almost a melodramatic comedy.

Scenes to watch for include: Godzilla invades the tea-party; Cusack at the drive-in with Cookie; and the yacht race.

There's a lot of silliness in this film, but it's great fun. A completely enjoyable experience! Pairing this film with "Better Off Dead" would make a great offering for a video party. They are fun and watchable!

4 star films, but with a 5 star punch.

Have fun!

Summary: More Surreal Comedy From Savage Steve Holland
Review: This is what 80's movies were all about, having fun. John Cusack returns this time as Hoops McCann, a character much like Lane Meyer from Better Off Dead. The dark surreal humor from Better Off Dead is all over this movie, and with the addition of all these quirky characters like Bobcat Goldthwait, this is a movie you won't easily forget. Sure, some of the gags are a little corny, but most of the humor works since it is so off-the-wall and/or ridiculous. I sure wish Savage Steve Holland had continued making movies like this.

The DVD is actually decent. The video is quite good in a lot of scenes, but scenery shots and miscellaneous other scenes are grainy. In that sense the video is sort of a mixed bag, but it looks way better than any previous version. The colors are nice, but the picture is a tad soft. This shouldn't distract you though, it still looks impressive for an 80's movie. The audio is a bit of a setback as it is only single channel mono. It sounds good for what it is, but since it only comes out of the center channel speaker, it ends up sounding dull. Why not make the mono mix 2 channel? That way we could at least get some separation. The trailer is included on the dvd as expected, but I was shocked to see a commentary with Savage Steve Holland, Curtis Armstrong, and Bobcat Goldthwait! I wasn't expecting much, but man this is a funny commentary. If you're the type who normally skips commentaries, don't miss this one. So the dvd is light on the features, but at least it got better treatment than Paramount gave Better Off Dead.

Summary: just another dumb preppie vs. nerd movie
Review: This movie has been done over and over again, with different actors and by different directors, but the plot is stale and has gotten extremely boring. Don't bother with another cookie cutter movie of this kind.... buy something original or save your money!

Summary: Classic mix of corn and future stars in an 80's flick
Review: This movie is definitely a five star effort. I have a tape of it that is just after "MIDNIGHT MADNESS" (another five star corny film). It stars Booger from Revenge of the nerds, Cusack, a young Demi Moore, Bobcat Goldthwait from "Police Academy" fame, and some other recognizeable faces. They all put in a classic corny performance (like the attack of the dolphin with Rabbies. If you want to kick back with Popcorn and some beer and watch some Classic 80's Corny Comedy, grab this, Better Of Dead, Midnight Madness, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. All of which should be available on Amazon.com

Summary: One of the greatest comedies EVER!
Review: This was Savage Steve Holland's follow up film to the cult classic better off dead... he had big shoes to fill and boy did he ever make another winner! Starring John Cussack, Demi Moore and Bobcat Goldthwait this movie is a laugh fest with some very nice touching moments in between! Even after all these years this movie still makes me laugh out loud! I can't recommend it enough to you all!

Summary: A dozen crazy cameo's
Review: What can you say about a summer movie with characters who behave like "live-action" cartoons? Sounds like another crazy Steve Holland flick. With a casting call that features John Cusack with the likes of Demi Moore, Bobcat Golthwaite, Curtis Armstrong, Joel Murray & Jeremy Piven (among many others), "One Crazy Summer" keeps flinging trademark Savage-Steve sight gags and one-liners across the viewer's path. It's the underachievers versus the preppie jerks ala the '80's style, and Cusack's neurotic "Hoops" character is once again the closest person to "normal" this side of Demi Moore's musical '60's child. This one is fun, if only to see and hear how great the Bobcat used to be. Get crazy!!
