Summary: One of the definitive 'Gen-X' movies
Review: Well now that the Natalie Portman fanclub has had their say, perhaps it's time for some unbiased reviewing. Even if you don't think the sun shines out of young Nat's nether regions, you will still enjoy this film. It's a mature and down-to-earth look at love and commitment in the nineties.

Timothy Hutton is in great understated form as Willie, a struggling musician returning to his hometown for a highschool reunion. Willie is wary of committing to his long-term girlfriend, fearing if he does, he'll miss out on something better. He has this so set in his mind that he even begins to see possible alternative love in a local thirteen year-old girl (Portman) much to the derision of his buddies.

Said buddies are having similar troubles with there own relationships. Tommy (Matt Dillon) is cheating on his faithful girlfriend Sharon (Mira Sorvino) with local harlet Dariam (Lauren Holly). Goofball Paul (Michael Rapaport), is struggling to keep his girlfriend Jan (Martha Plimpton) from leaving him.

Of course, before the movie is over the guy's, after a series of humourous and moving encounters, and aided by a fleeting visit by an almost ethereal Andera (Uma Thurman), realise how special the women in their lives are after all.

Even if the movie is biased in favor of a male viewpoint, it's a timely reminder for guys out there to stop waiting for that dream girl, she doesn't exist (and you won't get her anyway). Learn to appreciate the real women in your life who will love you back.

Beautiful Girls has capable acting from a strong ensemble but with no particular standouts. The script is what makes the film standout. Well done Scott Rosenberg, it's a pity you had to go and do Con Air after this, but I guess we've all got to eat.

Btw. In response to all the other posts, Natalie Portman really isn't all that great in Beautiful Girls, it's a pretty straight-forward role. Check out Leon to see a much better showcase of her particular talents. To be fair I should now point out the best roles of everyone else in the cast, but since their BG performances haven't consistently been getting overrated on this message board, I won't.

Summary: I'll be her Pooh
Review: Beautiful Girls has now made my list of top ten movies. This movie gives us a glimpse into the lives of people that we all know and relate to. The best romantic comedy I've seen in years, Michael Rappaport was excellent and a bright spot in an all-star cast. But it is Natalie Portman's performance that swept me off my feet. An extremely intelligent and convincing actress, "Precocious" Portman, carries the movie with her near-romance with Timothy Hutton. Please tell me that every guy was not envious of Hutton during the scene when Natalie was ice skating on the frozen pond. Your heart cries out for her in the dyslexic Romeo & Juliet episode. Her wit and charm is unrivaled beyond her years. Well worth the five year wait.... Natalie is THE Beautiful Girl.

Summary: The movie that best sympathizes with 20 something males.
Review: "Beautiful Girls" depicts various characters in diverse situations as they return to their hometown for 10 year high school reunion. If you're a guy faced with growing up while wary of change and the fleeting of time, this is the movie for you. It's charming and entertaining with moments of melancoly. It tackles the "idea" of love--what it is, what it isn't, and how to be sure of it. The best movie of this type that I have ever seen.

Summary: One of the best films I've seen.
Review: The AFI has recently released it's list of American's 100 greatest films. I have seen 86 of those films. I must admit that Beautiful Girls is as entertaining as any one of those films. Natalie Portman and Timothy Hutton give performances that rival Bogart and Bergman's in 'Casablanca'and Gable and Leigh's in 'Gone with the Wind.' For any movie buff, this film is not to be missed.

Summary: The best I've seen
Review: Beautiful Girls is a great lighthearted comedy mixed with certain aspects of drama. The attractive, however unlikely, romance between Timothy Hutton and the ever adorable and loveable Natalie Portman stole the show (and my heart). If you have not seen Beautiful Girls and are looking for a laugh, a cry, and a feel-good movie, I strongly suggest that you go pick up a copy.

Summary: pooh and christopher robbin....
Review: an amazing movie that combines a solid script with an allstar cast. From the outset the movie comes across as deeply personal where the viewer can identify with the characters. The interaction between Timothy Hutton and Natalie Portman is the best part of the movie (as Portman's character says "Romeo & Juliet--the dyslexic version"). Two people separated by years and society can't take their relationship further than passing conversation. Above all this is a great movie among the crap that gets produced nowadays (i.e. Armageddon, the Postman) which I highly recommend.

Summary: Great movie, great acting. Natalie Portman steals the show.
Review: This was a great movie with solid acting. Natalie Portman steals the show with her performance. It's a nice story and real enough to believe. More than one plot adds to the good character development.

Summary: Simply a wonderful movie
Review: It's a rarity these days to find a movie that you connect with completely and are genuinely sad to see it end; Beautiful Girls is just that sort of movie. And the relationship between Natalie Portman and Timothy Hutton was one of the most unexpectedly touching romances to come along in years. While all the performances were outstanding, these two went way above that and gave the movie's its heart. I have to say I never thought I would be nineteen years old and having a crush on a 13 year old, but Natalie's performance was simply that good. A great, great movie.
